Okay, I'm going to show my "newbie-ness" here, but B3, what's Earls? I've seen you mention it on a few threads, and I don't get it.

And what's a cowbell?

Sorry, but I just don't know!

Well first I'm coming to VB for 5 day ( May 7th - May 12 th) then I come back and stay at VWL for 3 days ( May 12th - May 15th.) Just wanted to make sure I hit up all the resorts with my 7 month bookings. :) I'd be happy to get together if you are at WDW during this time.

We fly home from SSR on May 5th, almost had my chance to show you an SSR owner that loves the place :earseek:

Earls is Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney, serves great sandwiches apparently (never tried one).

Not an SNL fan?

Disney has run out of prime land and is now building resorts off site and using the prime land as the tool to mkt them.

Please stop saying that SSR is off site. It's not. This is not a matter of opinion. It might be in a location you consider less desirable, and it's fine for you to say that, but it's not off site.

I've never considered any WDW resort "off-site" They're all attached somehow. Boats, buses, monorails etc... You're never off site in the world

Hi, Twingle,
You have to check out rinkwide's signature to understand the cowbell-thing. (It's from an SNL skit with Will Farrell.)

Well, don't I feel like I just had a "dur" moment.

I knew that there was an Earl of Sandwich, just didn't make it from point a to point b.

Yes, I am a SNL fan, but giving away my age here, I enjoyed it much more when it was the original not ready for prime time players - and I LOVED Mr. Bill. I don't think I've watched SNL since I've had kids, the last thing I remember Will Ferrell doing is the cheerleader thing.

And I did notice the pic of Will Ferrell banging his cowbell with enthusiasm - just didn't make the connection.

Thanks for the info!

We're always showing our age. I remember the early years of SNL myself. I have a question for everyone. How do you make a signature and put a picture in it? I can't seem to find out how

Given that one of things that draws people to BCV is SAB, I'm very surprised they didn't build something similar at SSR. I'm not familiar with the layout of SSR but given they are still building there, is there still room to include a spectacular pool there? Something with a lazy river would be great -- similar to the one at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

.

LisaS If that happened , the LAZY RIVER , I would buy enough points for two weeks in a one bedroom peak season. 1 week to do the parks the 2nd week to sit on a float and cruise the lazy river . We have a pool at home I would gladly give it up for a lazy river

Thanks LisaS great Idea :teeth:

OK then, how about off-site adjacent?

As far as not being "themed" why do folks feel you have to see characters running around everywhere to feel like you are at a Disney property - let the characters be found at the theme parks.

Theming is not necessarily the same thing as having lots of characters around.

Theming and character presence are the closest to being the same thing at the value resorts. At those, Disney basically built motels and then put up some giant props (sometimes Disney-related) as an ostensible theme. That kind of theming doesn't do much for me.

With the moderate and deluxe resorts, there is much more of a comprehensive theme, and those themes have very little to do with the characters. Rather, they have to do with the architecture and decor of the resort.

It is irrefutable that VWL has the most comprehensive theming of any DVC resort, though of course some people don't care for that theme. SSR is at the lighter end of the scale as far as theming. I think many people would say it is the least themed, but it's not too hard to argue for a different resort being the least themed. It would be wrong, however, to say that SSR has no theme at all. There is some attempt toward theming.

Just to add my .02 to this thread, and to maybe get that paranoid feeling that I am a thread killer off my back, but I purchased SSR in May 2004 for a number of reasons. One, it was what DVC was selling at the time; two, GF suggested we look into it and she is pretty smart about most things; three, the extra twelve years were a big selling point.

Our first DVC vacation, as you can see by my signature, was VWL in June 2004. I liked the look of the resort but just didn't have the usual magical time that week.

We've since stayed at OKW, BCV and SSR. I will admit that OKW is our favorite resort, since we live in Florida the theming is perfect for us, but SSR is our next fave. We love the proximity to DTD, the Turf Club is a wonderful place to relax and have some good food and drinks and the fitness center and spa are wonderful.

We enjoyed a wonderful carriage ride on our last trip to SSR and were very impressed with the growth of this resort. SSR will continue to grow and mature into its own and will have a loyal following much like the other DVC resorts.

I look forward to many more enjoyable trips at this resort.

No, I don't think he ever said "all". I think he said, "some". I think DVC does have CM's posing as "owners" here. It would be a very good "marketing tool". WDW/DVC is nothing, if not VERY good at marketing.

In all fairness, many DVC CMs are owners.

I would LOVE for them to add a pool at SSR that makes SAB look like a "dirty pond"....maybe that would take some of the heat off BCV, and I could book there outside the 7 window!!

Let's hear it for a REALLY kick*** pool at SSR!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yes, but as of about a year ago....they're "discouraged" from posting here. I'm talking about customer satisfaction reps whose job it is to "keep an eye on" the postings of the dis.

It's very smart of WDW....a great view into the minds of WDW visitors...and, it's free!! Much cheaper than paying a marketing firm to find out the scoop for you.

Sorry this is the last time I'll adress you on this thread. Others seem to be offerring constructive crtiticism to make SSR the best it can be. You seem intent on arguing whether or not SSR is on site? Also from your pictures under your sig. I'm confused why you feel the need to defend SSR? Also the frequest use of subpar when describing SSR is very appropriate here IMO. I define par as equal to the other existing DVC Resorts. By that definition SSR is indeed subpar. Lets get back to making SSR better and quit the quibbling.
