Kind of OT - a "female" whine

I got off birth control pills and within a few months lost fifteen pounds without even trying. I will never go back on them again now! I am glad that my nasty home invader will not be present the week of my wedding since nothing short of hibernating seems to help me deal with it. Good luck on your trip and drink lots of water, that does help some.

I don't know if its a wives tale or not but I seem to remember taking very warm baths when I was young to speed things up and it worked once or twice. Besides, it might help with the backache.

Aleve helps with the back-ache & cramps, Excedrin Migraine helps lots of people with Migraines and avoiding caffeine the whole week before I'm due goes a long way in reducing my irritability.

Good luck

I've heard a warm bath coupled with a glass of wine. It has worked for me.

I can't stand it when I go on vacation and end up on my period. Most times I've been lucky and it didn't come when I was vacationing. Except for going to Key West year before last... but then it was scheduled at the same time I was scheduled.... Grr. Also happened to a friend of mine that week too.. Both of us grumpy at not being able to swim... I've never done tampons. And usually use 2 pads during the worst of it as a "diaper" to minimize leakage while sleeping/reading in bed.

Only probs I seem to have is that if I don't take Ibuprofen the first 3 days, everything I eat tears my stomach up and makes me run for the bathroom! :scared: The cramps aren't as bad as when I was in college. Then, I skipped a few classes because the pain was so blinkin' bad I couldn't stand it!

I hope to God that I stay on the current "cycle" and it misses me on the 1.5 weeks I'm gone vacationing! ::crosses fingers and prays fervently:

Due to my work schedule, I always have to plan our annual WDW pilgramage in the middle of a month. Unfortunately, that's exactly when Aunt Flo appears...every year! So, the first few days of our 11 day trip, I'll be pms-ing and bloating. The next 5 days or so I'll be messing my clothing and the resort bedsheets, then we leave two days after it ends. I'm a long way away from menopause, so I've got several years of this to look forward to. My DD's always urge me to use tampons, as they swear they are cleaner, fresher, and easier than the alternative. I have never felt comfortable with tampons, but maybe its time to give them another shot... What does the majority recommend? Should I post a poll (LOL!)?

I got a visit from Flo once while on vacation in Cozumel. I went to the local Wal Mart type store and the GIRL aisle was huge! Floor to ceiling of every type of pad you ever thought of.....but only ONE lone brand/size of tampons. Seriously, there was only one little row of these tampons and only 4 boxes in the row. I was crossing my fingers I didn't get TSS the whole time.

Should I post a poll (LOL!)?

:lmao: :rotfl2: ok..that was funny!!!

I'm tampon-a-phobic (please tag fairy don't be reading this!!:rotfl: ). I have a latex allergy. Actually I'm allergic to most brands of pads. My choices are very limited. Ever since I had my tubes tied 9 years ago (STUPID STUPID STUPID!) my periods have gotten worse and worse. I was thinking about those pills that make you stop having it completely. Or only a couple times a year. I've never been on birth control pills so I don't know how my body would handle that.

My DD is 15 and not at all regular. She feels her pain in her knees - figures, she's an Irish Dancer! We are both hoping and praying we stay on the schedule we have now so we will be "Flo free" at WDW.

It looks like I will be getting mine about 2 days into my vacation! I am on the Seasonale pill where you only get your period 4x a year (which is awesome LOL). My Dr has me on it mainly because I have had problems with Ovarian Cysts, etc and surgery twice (including when I was about 4 months pregnant with Avery) in the last year and my insides were really messed up because of it.

Does anyone else here take Seasonale? What I am wondering is if I can skip the fake pills that I am due to take on 9/9 (vacation starts 9/7) and instead start a new 3-month pack and go 6 months without a period? It seems like every stinking WDW trip, I get my period on it and miss out on swimming and water parks. Sometimes it is fairly light and other times it is heavy so I don't take a chance and just stay out of the water. LOL

When I was on a regular monthly type pill after my oldest was born, there were times when I could mess with it a bit to postpone my period but because this one makes it go away for 3 months at a time, I don't know?

Anyone with opinions or thoughts? Thanks!!

no real advice just want to commiserate with you..the only thing worse thus far than the whole period thing..is the whole period thing in my 40's:)
longer, heavier, not as scheduled...

in the last 6 months I have went to another theme park, a zoo with the grandkids, a cruise, and a special girl weekend with my best friend..all scheduled for different days of the month but without exception
had my visitor for each one.

leaving in 2 weeks for WDW, will be there 2 weeks, just ended my menses and so again sometime on my trip i shall expect a visitor..
I can only suggest you go prepared and take whatever helps before its a problem

don't wait till you get cramps or migraines or whatever..

there should be some natural law clause that women do not have to be on their menses at the happiest place on earth

I can sympatize as well. I started on my wedding day and then 10yrs later on our big anniversary trip guess who came to visit. I wish she would just GO AWAY!!!!

I feel for all of you! Mine got progressively worse with each kid. Then I had a tubal ligation and they got horrible!!! Not only do I not know when it'll decide to show its ugly head each month, but I transform into an alien!! I know it, but can't control it. I'm a monster. And to top it all off, they said I'm in pre-pre menopause. Lovely!! I'm only 32, but women in my family seem to go through it early. Only saving grace is that hopefully it will stop sooner!

I have always been regular as clockwork. Every 27 days on the button. Wicked cramps, though, just horrible. Since the birth of my second son 4 1/2 years ago, I've been all screwed up ! My period returned when he was 6 weeks old. Ever since, I can't predict when it'll come. If I started today, it may last a week, maybe a day. Could come again in 2 weeks, possibly up to 2 months could pass. Could be wicked bad cramps or nothing at all.
I had a cantaloupe sized fibroma removed 2 years ago (12" x 12" x 7") and I thought that would help even things out ... no such luck. I also cannot take birth control pills. I started on them when I was 18, was on them for 2 months and developed blood clots in my lungs.
As to the tampon issue - what about having your daughter try OB tampons ? They are applicator-less and might be easier as they are tiny.
Good luck !

Wouldn't you know, Aunt Flo showed up 3 days late this month, the morning of our first full day on vacation. I was SO mad!

To make it even worse, my back pain is exacerbated during my period.

To top it all off, that first evening I wore my Mickey Crocs for the first time. Because I'm walking weird because of my back, I ended up with HUGE blisters on the outside of both of my big toes!

After 3 days, I was OK. I popped the blisters, AF lightened up, and my back wasn't as bad.

OK, turning the whine off now. Next time I'll have some cheese with my whine!:lmao:

Does anyone out there take a prescription for the migrains?? For the last 3 years I get the migraines on and off and the doctor says they are from the hormones. So we figured that out. Ive been using excedrine migraine wich will help if i can take them as soon as i feel one coming on. I tried one prescription but it just made me nausea's and drowsy and didnt help enough with the pain. I am going back to the doctor in a couple week to see about a different prescription. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Another lady here who period is getting worse with age. I'm over 40 (can't believe I just wrote that!) and can't wait to be done with the whole thing.

I've also gotten my visitor for my last 2 Disney trips. Oh the joy! Nothing better than walking around in the hot Florida air in August when you are feeling so icky.

what we learn on the DIS. . .just amazing, seems we are all in fine company ladies!

Have nursed four of my 6 babies and always get my flow exactly 28 days on the dot each and every month no matter what, even tho I nursed for over a year every single time!

done with babies now (the last was premmie and is now DD2) and all I can think to say is DD12 hasn't started yet and I'm praying it doesn't start in Disney next month in a room with her Daddy and her brothers!!

At least Disney public restroooms are a bit cleaner than some!

Someone else mentioned they had a D&C , hystroscopy and endometrial ablation (burn off the inside the uterus with a laser)- well, I had the same thing recently and it does wonders. No bleeding- just some minimal "spotting" for about a day. Couldn't ask for a better solution. It is a surgical procedure and requires general anethesia, but insurance did cover it. Recovery was a few days until I felt back to 100%. Best thing I ever did!! I hope this can help someone out who is looking for a permanent solution- you have to be done having kids, though- can't carry a pregnancy once it's done.

I just posted actually on the community board today and it got lost in the shuffle after 2 responses.... but this is what I wrote.....

Have you ever just missed a period for no apparent reason? I'm 34-mom of 2 girls (ages 4.5 and 7) and up til now, pretty regular @ every 28 days (though in my teen years had to go on the pill for very irregular periods). I'm 5 days late. Took 3 pregnancy tests-all negative so far. I know the panic now is not helping (Though I'd love another baby, I'm on blood pressure meds that you cannot take during pregnancy~hereditary blood pressure problems). We go to Disney in 12 days. I actually planned the trip around my cycle so that I wouldn't feel so miserable as I was last year when I had it while we were in Disney.... my mom was officially done with menopause at age 40. I don't know if this could be the start @ age 34? Could the 3 different pregnancy tests be wrong? (ept, First response, and Target brand-all taken a day apart)??? What's going on!?!?!?! There have been no changes in my diet... I exercise regularly (but no where near over exertion which would cause amennorhea). I fall within the proper weight category for my height. There are no cramps, PMS symptoms, breakouts or anything that even signal it's on it's way???? I was hoping to avoid seeing my GYN as I've grown to fear her in the last few years since she downsized her practice and I'm terrified of the wrath if I switch because she's like that... she harrasses her former patients that are switching from her because they don't like her new attitude Perhaps my primary care can figure it out???? Just wondering if anyone had anything similar that I can be made to relax!?!?

Oh, and I'm sure I jinxed myself last month when we sold ALL of our baby things.... EVERYTHING... strollers, carseats, toys, clothes, etc... at a yard sale.... EVERYTHING!:rotfl:

I was suffering from migraines that would last 4-5 days and then get relief for a few days only to get hit by another..... my MD put me on Inderal LA (A beta-blocker used for BP usually but they found it prevents migraines too) :thumbsup 2 I started using it about 2 yrs ago and hadn't had a migraine for over a year until the pharmacy started giving me the generic (propanolol) Migraines came back... I asked my MD to write "no-substitutions" on the script since there was no sense in my taking it to prevent migraines if it wasn't working... once I was back on the brand-name, the migraines were gone again :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
