Kanye West is a total.....

I am pretty sure I said that he could have done this in a different venue/time.

Yes, I saw that. No flames from me. I might be alone here, but I still dont think it's appropriate at any place or time.

Like I said, if he had waited until after the ceremony and made such a comment to a reporter I would have still been disgusted, albeit to a lesser degree. Taylor won, fair and square. For someone to publicly say that she wasn't deserving is just poor sportsmanship and in bad taste, in my opinion.

Don't know if you took a look at the ABC news article I posted, but he has a LONG history of doing this. And specifically, this is not the first time he took the mic away from the winners to promote himself or his opinion.

He's an idiot. And he clearly hasn't learned a lesson from his many past mistakes (all of which he quasi-apologized for) so the apology isn't worth squat. And now he pretends to shed a tear when Leno asks him what his mom would think. Puleeeezzzzzzzzzz...........

:thumbsup2

Exactly....what he issued was not much of an apology. What I expect of him (and the only thing that would change my mind about him) is a REAL apology with meaning behind it and proving that he means it by not acting this way in the future.

:thumbsup2

For one, he could really apologize.

He said last night he wished he could apologize to Taylor Swift in person.

Well, he has had over 36 hours to pick up the phone and call Taylor Swift and apologize. But as of this morning's appearance on the View, he has not reached out to her at all.

To me that shows that a complete lack of sincerity and that his faked tearful appearance last night was nothing more than show for his own narcissistic benefit.

:thumbsup2

A previous poster said that Taylor told the ladies on the View that he never even reached out to her to apologize. Yeah, he's sorry alright.

I hope that MTV finally learns THEIR lesson and stops inviting this dope to their shows. While I'm reasonably sure that MTV isn't exactly hating the attention, they should also recognize that America doesn't want to see him at these things anymore.

KW said last night on Leno that he needed to take some time off. ABSOLUTELY. He needs to calm down, reflect on what he has done and stop drinking. It is reported that he said he had done "some sippy sippy" before the VMA's and KW blamed it on that. :sad2: Carrying that large bottle of Hennessy (brandy) into the VMA's.....who does that??? :headache:

That's another thing. Call me naïve, but why was that even permitted? Because he's a *celebrity*, I suppose.

Reports are that he finally personally talked to Taylor Swift after the View. She accepted his apology which she said was sincere. I still think he needs a 12 step program before he gets on a stage again.

On TMZ last night they showed Kanye taking "some sippy sippy" and then they showed his hand from behind and the bottle cap was still on the bottle - ie he was only pretending to be drinking. Their take - gave him an 'excuse' later on after he purposely behaved that way. So, I'm now going along with those that believed he staged this whole thing and did it at Taylor's expense. It really says a lot that he has yet to pick up a phone and call her. I really don't think he's sorry at all, I think he's thrilled he stole all the attention from that show.

I just read this tweet from The View - Kanye called Taylor Swift after her appearance on the show:

@theviewtv Update! Kanye West phones Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) at @theviewtv and apologizes. http://theview.abc.go.com/blog/kanye-phones-taylor-apology-accepted

I still think any apology is just damage control and not heartfelt. I've had a problem with him since the Katrina incident and this rude act is the last straw. I didn't watch the end of Jay Leno last night and won't watch anything that Kayne is on from here on out. I hope that he is banned from awards shows but that is unlikely because he gets them ratings and exposure.

To fill in the OP's blank, I think Kanye West is a pompous bully.

ENTITLEMENT = Kanye West.

I believe he feels he is ENTITLED to carry that large bottle of Hennessy.

ENTITLED to go up on that stage, take the microphone right out of Taylor's hand and rant.

I called it! I NEVER thought he was drinking. It looked "off" to me the whole time. And his words never once seemed slurred. The "heavy drinking" was a ruse he could use to excuse his inexcusable behavior. I suppose it's so predictable that he will make an *** of himself (provided he is breathing) that he needs to have a cover story in place ahead of time. :rolleyes1

I never blew it off and I never said I was a fan... I said it was terrible but it was him and based on how he's been in the past I don't expect anything better or different from Kanye. This is how he acts and how markets himself... doesn't mean I find it acceptable, but it no longer surprises me and I no longer think it will hurt his career (in fact based on his past success' it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it helped it).

And if you note everything I said so far has come absolutely true. I said it would get him more publicity... which it did. Rather than just rapping, he got to rap and be interviewed (all the negative backlash got him that interview), he is still on every paper and gossip site, you all are still talking about him, etc. I said he would find some way to tie it back to theme of his new concert tour announced the day before the VMA's, which he did. His concert theme is Fame Kills, going to be "performance art" about how fame is destroying him. What did he say to Jay last night "so many celebrities never take the time off and I've never taken the time off, and I allowed my hurt..." He is setting up the character of the destroyed celebrity, the same way Lady Gaga, if you read about her VMA exploits, was doing (they are starring in the tour together). In his own words he said he realized right afterwards that this time it wasn't just a spectacle, which to me shows he was thinking it would be just that, a spectacle. It wasn't about Beyonce deserving it at all, it was about Kanye creating a scene, getting attention, which he got. His apology was no more than he's done in the past and I wouldn't put it past him to have asked Jay to ask him what his mom would say because that might get some sympathy back over to him and give him an "out" as a hurt, grieving son.

I give it a few weeks and he will turn into the self-depricating joking Kanye who will laugh at how stupid he was, showing up on SNL or MTV or somewhere mocking himself... keeping this in the public just in time for his tour tickets to go on sale. After that he'll be back to conceited Kanye. If you look at his past, it's simply his pattern.

You can keep believing this will make him go down, but as long as you guys are talking about it, watching the interviews, and keeping this story going, you are giving him exactly what he wants... letting him build himself into the celebrity destroyed by his own fame, a hurt man, a grieving son... a man who now has a concert tour exploiting all of that. I am too cynical to think that his core fanbase will abandon him now after everything else they've put up with from him over the years.

Wait where on earth did you get the idea that I was implying this statement to you - I wasn't even replying to one of your posts so why on earth would you think I meant YOU personally in my reply unless of course you posted somewhere on this thread about his 'Marketing Genuis" which is being spouted by his fans all around the web right now and those fans are the ones I was referring to.

I and others are free to express how we feel about what he did and guess what I will NOT watch anything he is on again - I for one did not tune in to Jay Leno to watch his interview - I also know that just my not watching it does not effect him or his popularity but I and many others are sick and tired of these antics by celebs and I say no more - I don't watch shows like ET or TMZ , or read gossip rags and I will stop watching so called talk shows who continue to support these type of people. He will not be in the spotlight forever and I predict he will be a has been sooner then he would like. It is only a matter of time.

He is an idiot, I agree; but his idiocy seems to be working. Everyone knows what Kanye did at the awards (seriously, I have heard people that wouldn't watch MTV if you paid them talking about what he did!), but do these same people know what award Eminem won or Beyonce won? Nope.

Everyone is talking about Kanye West and by the end of the week everyone will know who he is and what he does and quite a few that didn't know him before will be curious enough to listen to his music. Maybe he's not such an idiot afterall.

As for the apology, you can make someone say the words but they can't be made to mean them. He apologized and hopefully he will apologize to her personally; we really cannot now say "you have to say again and with feeling!" He is what he is and Obama summed it up pretty well. I don't think he will be changing anytime soon.

As for why he was allowed on the stage or why he was allowed to bring in a bottle--the answer is simple. MTV exists because of people like Kanye, not the other way around. How many times have there been folks on there that were obviously drunk or high? How many times have things been said that shouldn't have been? MTV is not going to alienate these people.

hmm... Silly me. You used my exact words from my first post on thos thread so I thought you were referring to me.

was just pointing out that all this outrage is doing is giving him exactly what HE wants. As far as him being a has been soon people have been saying that following his outbursts in '04, '05, '06....

What I had gotten from your initial post was that you thought we were wrong for judging him....I understand better now.

There are many who do like seeing him. I wouldn't have a problem if he just sat in teh audience like everyone else. I think MTV (and any awards show) needs to take these celebr-idiots to task and give anyone who makes a scene, THE BOOT.
I agree. It's time that they had security inconspicuously staked out near the steps to the stage. If some meathead tries to access the stage without his name being called, he should be shown the exit door.

Last night on Leno when asked about his mom he mumbled something it being wrong that he took his hurt and made someone else hurt - I seriously hope he wasn't using his mothers death as justification for being an idiot. He was an idiot before she died.

I really am sorry if you thought I was referring to one of your earlier posts - honestly I was not -Since this thread has grown so large I had to go back to see what you even posted and yes you did say "marketing genuis" however these exact words are being spouted by many of his fans and they are who I was referring too.

I guess we will have to just agree to disagree about how long his success will last - singers come and go and his days are about up - artists can't be up at the top all the time just ask all the has beens from the 70's, 80, & 90's and early 2000's - fame is fleeting and only a handful of artists ever have the staying power of a long term popular career. Kanye may have another couple years of fame however in my opinion unless he makes some serious changes with his attitude and ego he will slowly fade away into the past with all the other once famous artists.
