Just Say No!...to the $12.00 Cannoli.

Boy - folks are sounding really mad!! And I guess I don't get it.:confused3 But that's just based on my WDW experience.

Over the last years and 7 trips, kids have grown with adult appetites, and the ability to try different cuisines. Finances have only slightly improved, and our touring styles have changed. We have used DDp twice now - once for free, once for cash, and will pay again in January for it.

I just glanced over the menu, picked my entree, soft drink and dessert and came up with a total of $54.50 - on which I will tip at least $11 cash. (Can't remember how the tax goes.. on or off the new DDP - that will impact tip?) I'm paying $37.99/day for new DDP, and I haven't touched my $12 CS or my $4 snack - as if I can eat all that anyway. I'm up almost $10 for the day. That's omitting the appetizer/salad. No 2nd mortgage needed - but then - there's only 3 of us!

I like paying ahead, knowing we have a great meal to look forward to at the end of the day. If I thought ahead of time if I'd pay $12 for a cannoli - of course not. We are out of chicken fingers/burger meals or going offsite to eat. Just the way it is~for us. For NOW.

Disney does not have to accommodate my family's changing needs over time. I have to accommodate myself to what is available and make choices from there. There are plenty of choices for everyone. A few years ago - I would have never thought a dining plan would work for me.

Stay tuned...

Well said:thumbsup2 from a fellow Long Islander:goodvibes

Frankly, I can't help but wonder if this is to entice folks that the DDP is a deal after all.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot more menus like this spreading over WDW.

Thank goodness I have my DVC kitchen, and a car!

And one thing folks: If you don't like the prices, COMPLAIN! Write your letters to the Food and Beverage head at WDW.

Jodi

This is one thing I whole heartedly agree with. If you don't complain, there is no incentive to change.

Why is everyone getting in such a tizzy over something that we haven't even seen yet? :confused3

At our favorite Steakhouse in Chicago, they have a key lime pie to die for, the first time we went there I didn't want to order it because it was 11 or 12 dollars, the waiter talked me into it - guess what, the "slice" of pie was as big as my head.

I'm sure that this DISNEY canoli is not the same one that you get at the corner bakery - I bet you its HUGE and yummy.

Disney will have to change lots of things/prices if the masses just refused to pay! We all have concerns/complaints about alot of changes recently, but will continue going/paying. Looked at the menu at this place and won't even consider it. Ever stop to think what a pack of spaghetti noodles cost in the grocery store??? Think of the markup here! I'll be the first to jump on the bandwagon and just say no to this craziness with these prices!!

Why does it bother you that so many people posting here feel the prices at this restaurant are out of line even by WDW standards?

I guess it doesn't really "bother" me. It's not like it's keeping me up at night. It's just something to talk about. I like to give places (espeically at Disney) the benefit of the doubt and I think that people are ruling this restaurant out without eating here or hearing many reviews.

If I were ever to pay OOP for that 12 dollar cannoli, that huge rumbling sound you'd hear would be my father turning over in his grave!!

I agree with that! Frugality should be a virtue, if it isn't already.
Even if you can afford to buy it, why would you? That may be the big question. The answers to that question might be very interesting. ;)

You know, I am happy to see these comments. I was thinking I was going to read a lot of posts that say "if you don't like the prices then don't eat there."

Looking over the menu, I think the prices are ridiculous for the choices they give you. I don't mind paying for good food, but this is just basic stuff.

And if you think the cannoli is outrageously priced, look at the Bugie. It's just fried dough folks. Fried dough.

I'm an experienced cook and I always appreciate dishes that take time to prepare and contain costly ingredients. But none of these fit the bill, except for the Prosciutto di Parma.

It's probably yummy, but I highly doubt it's going to be huge.

I remember ordering Tiramisu at Alfredo's. It was served in a small coffee cup. Two bites and you were finished.

Has anyone tried the $12 Cannoli? I feel like getting a quick flight down to FLA to go try the darn thing to see how big it is and how it tastes. If someone gets there before me, please bring a measuring tape and scale to measure it and weigh it so we can all fight if it was worth $12. Linda

Do you mind if I ask where you've been eating? While I know that there are some horrible spots at WDW, it seems as though they are pretty easily avoidable, with a little planning. Our first trip as adults was last month and we were actually quite pleased with the majority of our meals.

Same here. That's one of the things that keeps us coming back to Disney - we love the rides and the shows, but we wouldn't be willing to make it our big family vacation over and over again if they were serving theme park food.

My family has been in the food business a long time and I wonder how long they can stay in business with those prices. I really dont care who you are the bottom line is if it costs to much people wont come. I will be curious to know how much business they are getting from people who are not on the DP. And the tip on that meal for 2008 will be huge. I would much rather have a meal at FF or Jiko for those prices you wont find me there.

Stay in business? Well, Tutto Italia (a) has only been in business for about three weeks, and (b) is temporary.

We got the cannoli on the DDP on Wednesday. The first thing I said when it hit the table was, "Where is the other one? Surely for $12 they serve two?!?" But alas it was only one, small-to-average size cannoli, with a candied orange peel slice on one end. The cream was delish and the cannoli was crisp and fresh. But it was still one cannoli. I would have been irate if we were paying cash.

Ronda,
Did you try it while you were there?

I'm going to try it when I'm there in a few weeks. I'll be sure to try the cannoli. being on the DDP, price doesn't matter.
From reviews I've read, it's pretty average food. I ahve not heard or read anyone that had said the cannoli is huge or even delicious for that matter.

Maybe they figure since it's temporary, they will see how high they can go? lol

ahhh, there we go.
thanks for the long awaited cannoli review!

Ronda,

The restaurant? Or the cannoli?
Yes to the first, no to the second. It was good - I had the ensalata mista because I didn't want to fill up on appetizer, and the paccheri pasta tubes, and for dessert I handed the menu back to my server and said, "Surprise me". I ended up with the copetta sotto bosco (coincidentally, the most expensive dessert) which was actually very good.
