anyone who thinks they get one put to them at the theme parks just need to price out a week in ocean city MD. we are maybe popping down for a few days in june. room only can go as high as 1800.00 a week or more for decent accommadations. and really...............how many times can you walk up and down the boardwalk all the while being accosted by panhandlers and bad musicians. this used to be our annual trip till we were converted. anyone still go to the beach every year??????

We love going to Ocean City, MD - but we only go for a day trip, or get one night on the boardwalk. It IS quite expensive! We splurge for one night at about $300 on the boardwalk to get a nice weekend our of it - but you multiply that out, and you are well on your way to a trip to WDW.

We can do a week on the Outer Banks in NC in a house for less than a week in Ocean City, MD. Two completely different beach experiences - we like a lot of the Outer Banks experience and a little taste of the Ocean City, MD experience every year.

We used to go all the time, but as you said- it is now more expensive than WDW. So now we never go and just go to Disney!

I was looking into some pricing for a summer week at a Cape Cod beach and it was very expensive! I was surprised too at the cost of a summer beach vacation rental. Off season seems much better but I certainly wouldn't go to a beach up north in the winter. Disney really proves itself time after time to be a good vacation value, compared to other destinations, for our family...

We live about 2 1/2 hours form O.C. Maryland. This is why we go to Disney every year. We usually drive. We leave Friday after work and drive straight through. Occasionaly we do fly but most of the time driving is cheaper and the kids sleep straight through the night.

I've paid as much or more for accommodations in Chicago, NYC and DC. I think the rooms at Disney can be reasonable if you stay moderate or when they discount the deluxe rooms.

It is very pricey! I brought is up before. We had a condo down there but my SIL would pay $3000 for the week for just the room/condo for her family. Add in eating out and boardwalk and it far surpasses Disney. I think she spent about $6K in OC and $4k in Disney so she saved quite a bit.

We used to go to OCMD too...but WDW was cheaper and more bang for your back..plus we were bitten by the Disney bug and it itches-lol!
Actaully if you stay "off-site" at Assateague Pointe Resort you can rent a 2 or 3 bedroom cottage/double wide home for under $1000 a week. We actually preferred staying there as it's closer to Assateague Island Park...we like their beach better. It's right near Frontier Town campground. Then we just drive 5 minutes over the bridge to OC when we wanted to go to the boardwalk or do some shopping.

Since we are in TX, we used to spend a week at my grandpa's beachhouse down near Galveston before he sold them a few years ago. Since then, we've rented larger beach houses in Galveston and/or Port Aransas and yep, a nice one to accomodate all of us can easily run $2500 a week in the summer. Add in cost of gas to get there, food for the week, activities like hitting the aquarium, shops or other entertainment and you are easily looking at $4k by the time it is all said and done and that is in crappy TX gulf coast with nasty brown water. :rotfl:

Yep, I can't understand why my cousin goes to Cape May, NJ every year. They pay $1800+ for the week and she does all her own cooking and cleaning. The past few years, they've had problems with cleanliness - old food in the fridge and bugs in the kitchen and bathrooms. Ewwwwww. Because they rent private houses, they had to take care of the problems. They spend $ for arcades in Cape May and $$$$$ for the Boards in Wildwood. She asks me how I can go to Disney year after year and I countered with "You go to Cape May every year."

Exactly!! We have friends who go to the same NC beach for a week every year. And they are shocked that we go to WDW every year! I tell them, "There are LOTS more things to do at WDW than the beach, but you go there every summer- why is it hard to understand that we like to do WDW?" Not to mention the $$$- they spend the same amt or more for a week of doing nothing at the beach, while we are exploring all 4 parks, the waterparks, and DTD.

To each his own- that is why there are so many different vacation destinations, I guess. :thumbsup2

I have a condo in OC on the beach so we are probably down there one weekend a month or so. I would love to be able to say that about Disney but thats more like once every other year at this point.
