Just Back from 8 nights in OKW GV **Issues**

When we were in Germany, the people there were fanatical about clean bathrooms....Germany had the cleanest bathrooms I had ever seen.
I wish that Epcot's Germany had the same clean bathrooms.

the source of the poop on the walls is that either people are sick, weirdos, that spread it around for their jollies or

they are not Americans. I know that many from other countries still do not know to drop the T.P. into the toilet after it is dirty. They use a trash can.

Most of the world's flushing system can not handle T.P. so they have to use a trash can.

The waste basket is small in the unit and with no daily maid service I can see it fill up fast.

This is grossing me out and I leave in a few days.

How much you want to bet that the previous occupants did not leave the villa on time and housekeeping had to hustle to clean. Plus, I bet it was trashed. Sounds like it might have been. We checked in on New Year's Day this past January and couldn't get into our villa until about 5:30 because the previous occupants didn't leave until about 4:15. Management doesn't remove their stuff either and they just keep trying to find them to let them know they must vacate the property.

That may be the case but the OP deserved a clean room.

That is what we pay for.

With that being said, I really don't believe that this happens very much (others may disagree) but when things like this happen, we as "guest" of Disney should have this resolved in a timely fashion.

Nice post Beca. I wish I knew why people were such slobs, can you imagine how they live?:sad2: I still remember who asked me if I had the poop analyzed. I remember I was so offended. It wasn't bad enough that this happened but then I was being treated as if it didn't by some posters here. It really, really made me mad. :furious: I think it was shortly after that I stopped posting as much on the DVC threads. I just didn't want to get bashed anymore if I dared to say something was wrong at WDW. I was just being honest. WDW had better take a long, hard look at their problems and resolve them. We stayed for the first time last year at Portifino Bay and that hotel was immaculate, along with the room being spotless. There was a poop accident in the pool and they made people stay out of the pool for at least 2 hours. I also watched them supershock it several times. After the 2 hour mark we left because we were sick of waiting, so actually I don't know how long before they actually let people back in. When we stayed at the BC back how many years ago with all those problems at the different resort, someone also had a poop accident in SAB. They didn't close off the entire pool, but only that section to shock it. I was so grossed out by people swimming right next to where the pool was empty. I asked a pool person and he said that no matter what kind of filtration system you have, there is no way you can keep that water from going into the other water. It was enough to make me gag!

ITA!!! I was still pretty much a "lurker" when I read all the posts about your poopy walls. There were some pretty serious kool-aid drinkers on these boards back then. I love my DVC, but not like some of those people!!! I don't remember who they were, but since there are not so many of them around anymore, I guess they either left or the effects of the kool-aid just wore off. Or, maybe....they found poop on their walls, too!!! I hope they had it analyized ;) (Okay...is it just me....or is analyized a really funny word to use in this situation??? :lmao: ) Man, I have such a 5th grade mind!!!!

Oh my gosh Beca, my family uses that same phrase "kool aid drinkers!" How funny. I remember after numerous people said I was basically lying and if I didn't like the conditions, I should just sell, thinking to myself "these people will accept anything as long as the mouse is attached to it." "What kool aid drinkers." I still really love WDW, but under no circumstances will I accept a dirty room. There is no reason for it. I wouldn't accept it anywhere else, so why would I accept it at WDW? It was pretty pathetic that on the way home we stopped at a Comfort Inn that was cleaner that the WDW properties. I know Florida is full of humidity, but we have also stayed in SW Florida and had absolutely no mold, dirt whatsoever. It was immaculate. That is what I expect when I am paying our hard earned money. Thanks for understanding Beca, it really does mean alot. :)

I know we all have our "levels" , although all levels would be one at feces one would hope, but I never understood why anyone would accept poor service or a room that is not clean. Nor why anyone would flame anyone for having the personal confidence and smarts to stick up for themselves and their purchase.

Thanks for the posts.

as to how the poo gets out of the toliet, many people stand to use them and if you have an upset stomach, well you get the picture.

I am sure if you are a parent you have heard of projectile vomiting, same thing. Same will little kids trying to get them to the seat. Sure the parents should clean it up, but probably don't.

Ewww, the parents must have been carrying this kid then, because the "mess" was above the door handle on the master bathroom door and there is no way someone could "projectile poo" :rotfl: that far up in the air unless you were touching your fingers to your toes with your behind aimed up in the air. LOL  You get the picture. :rolleyes1 If my kid did this I would feel obligated to clean it up, not that I would want to either, but I would do it. More than being upset about this at the time, I was disturbed by the way I was treated by the Executive saying "he had never ever had a complaint about a dirty room." I hate lying, just be honest and let's move on. He wanted to compensate us and I wanted the problem fixed. Therein lies the problem. It's bad enough to happen, but then to be questioned about it, told that the reason the BC room was dirty or neglected was because it was getting rehabbed, no response from BWV or OKW to the executive and then him letting me know that was more than annoying. It was like they didn't care. That worried me about my purchase. If it was this neglected this early in the game, what was it going to be like later? Another reason that we just sold. We will continue to visit, as I said, I love WDW, but now when it is dirty, I have the housekeeper come right away and fix the problem. Whether real or not, I feel like I am more respected when I am paying $$$ for the stay vs. using my points. We were just there this summer and got assigned a room with a courtyard view. The room was just in ok shape, not really clean and my view was of scaffolding. I know they have to do work, but I paid for the courtyard view, so back down to the frontdesk I went and very nicely asked for a different room. I didn't feel like waiting for them to reclean it either. They were great and reassigned us a room. We had to wait, but that was ok as I just stored our luggage. No big deal. I guess it is just what you will accept, and never will I accept dirt, especially if it's not my own.

I completely agree and I would have down at the front desk and in their face....because multi use or not.....people are getting paid to clean the rooms and they have the equipment to do so. They also need to fine the people who leave feces on the walls and maybe they will start thinking they need to clean it themselves if accidents happen. We were at OKW this summer and the remote didn't work, the bathroom had mold and the refrigerator was leaking into the carpet. This was a third floor room so I wondered if perhaps it didn't get used as much as others and that was why it wasn't in as good shape as all of the rooms during our previous stays. Mousekeeping had just done a quick once over. My DH reported the refrigerator and they had a service person up there 2 different times to fix it and they didn't have the right size door. The morning of our check-out..mousekeeping and service was knocking on our door at 9am wondering when we were leaving....HMMMM

Well folks, here is an update.

We wrote a letter to DVC and OKW management with our complaints. Hopefully they will read the letter and make some changes.

My wife and I have decided to sell all of our contracts and keep Marriott only. These issues were not the deciding factor, but they were a motivating one. We were really let down by all of Disney this past trip, not just DVC. The filth was astounding. We were planning on selling some of our timeshares, and this made the decision easier for us.

We decided to keep Marriott for lower dues and ease of trades to other resorts.

We will still frequent WDW, but will rent when needed. We still love Disney, we just hope they will start to clean the place up a little bit.

If anyone is shocked at what was found in the bathroom, go read the thread on the Resorts forum where a guest found Poo, in the hallway and it wasn't the Winnie variety either. You have to wonder how many people and staff saw it and just walked on. :confused3

I know Disney has issues right now with a lack of enough staff especially custodial, but more guests have just become slobs. I witnessed no telling how many people making messes at CS tables and then just walk off and leave it. One table the parents were busy ignoring thier kids who were making a catsup, mustard, salt and pepper mess on the table and then playing in it. It was so gross I got up and moved. They of course just got up and walk off.

So it is bad situation from both perspectives, Disney is short handed and more people are messy.

I know people love OKW so we tried it in October and didn't like it very much. Crumbs on the floor, hair in the tub, a clogged drain and the welcome mat was falling apart so badly that the little pegs in it were rolling all over the place and being tracked into the room. I didn't care about it too much until my toddler was putting the pegs into his mouth.
The service was unacceptable. There wasn't a sheet for the pack & Play so I called around 5:00pm. After several calls, we finally had a woman who didn't speak English pound on the door at 9:30 waking the kids up. I called at 9:00 and told them to forget the sheet because the kids were going to bed. But pound pound pound "Good Morning" in broken English ticked me off so badly. I tried to describe the other problems in the room but she didn't understand me. Just "Good Morning" at 9:00 pm! :furious:

Unfortunately, there are isolated instances of poor service/housekeeping. I've owned at OKW for over 6 years now. After all my years of stays, I have never had any major problems. Believe me, being an owner there, if I did, I would not consistantly keep going back there (and I'd bet this is how other OKW fans feel). So far, in my many stays at OKW, we've found the CM's to be terrific as a whole. Some have exceeded our expectations over the years.
So, while it is unfortunate that the OP and you have had not as good experiences, I have to think OKW is doing something right for there to be so many happy/satisfied guests on average. I'm not saying OKW is perfect----no DVC or disney resort is though.
Sorry your one experience 2 princes 1 princess, was not a good one.

JimFitz,
Wish u the best with your decision to sell and let us know if you hear back from DVC if you get the chance.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment with your membership. It really is ashame. Unfortunately, I too have seen a lack of attention to many things not only at Disney but other places as well. Remind me to tell you of the horror stories from my visit to the Marriott Marquis at Times Square, NY. Unfortunately I think as more and more companies are forced to "trim" the bottom line things like Customer service, attention to details and housekeeping are going down the tubes. Hotels, restaurants and let's not even mention department stores are really becoming sad.
Wishing you fabulous vacations in the future and keep demanding quality service.

Wow, I'm so sorry that you had this experience and have chosen to sell your membership. What you experienced is indefensible. Please keep us updated if you receive a response about your complaint.

Thankfully, we have not experienced anything as disgusting as what has been frequently reported on these boards, but we have noticed an overall decline in cleanliness at WDW.

There was a period of five years between our visits when we returned last Christmas and we were disappointed in the condition of the parks but chalked it up to the crowd levels during Christmas.

We've returned twice since then and there wasn't much improvement in the overall cleanliness in the parks. Restrooms and counter service areas in particular were, and continue to be, the worst in our experience.

However, with the exception of some incredibly poor service at POR last Christmas, our resort experiences have been positive, which is why we decided to go ahead with our DVC purchase and so far have been very pleased.

Regretably, poor service has become the rule rather than the exception in many service related corporations. Disney seemed to weather the downward spiral better and longer than most, but it now appears that they too have allowed themselves to join the masses.

I'm concerned that with the continued rapid growth of DVC, these issues will become worse. The only way for improvement is if Guests refuse to turn a blind eye to the problem, or make excuses because it is Disney. Guests also need to ensure that they are not also contributing to the problem themselves by cleaning up their own acts too.

These issues need to be addressed and resolved while on property. Follow up letters also need to be sent to the Executive Offices detailing the issues and how they were handled, good or bad.

I hope we never encounter anything as utterly foul as what I've seen posted many times on these boards, but if we do, our digital camera will be the first thing I grab to document the problem, and then an immediate trip to the front desk will be made to provide the on-duty manager with the evidence.

I am pretty sure that no Disney Executive would want this discussion and slide show presentation taking place within earshot of the dozens of other guests in the Main lobby.

I'm pretty easy to please and don't go looking for issues, but I would have no problem camping out at the front desk until issues such as this are resolved to my satisfaction. Good thing we have an Aero bed. ;)

This whole thing is disturbing, and I'm just glad to hear it didn't ruin the vacation. I have to say, if my kids picked up dirty underware in the bathroom of our room, I would have an absolute fit. Kudos to you for not letting it put a damper on the trip.

I also have noticed a decline in the bathrooms and some restaurants within Disney. I've been going to Disney since the 70's (when I was a kid ;) ) and remember when it was spotless, so I guess I'm using the "old" days as a measuring stick. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's taken notice to it. I thought it was me for a minute. I realize they service ALOT of people, but the underware part is just over the top.

Good luck to you, and you will hear something via the link on the website. I also used it once to put in a good word for a helpful Cast Member, and got a return call within two weeks from Disney to say "thanks".

Anyone remember the cleanliness of the parks years ago???? Even that has slipped. So sad, really. :sad2:

Yes I remember the cleanliness of the parks and we have not been going for many, many years. DH & I went in 1998 and were so impressed by it. We were not DVC members and spent our 1st trip at the All Stars Music. At that time, we thought, well it's expensive to go but you get what you pay for. It was spotless. The next trip in 1999 was the same way. Our next trip was not until Apr. 2002 and we noticed things starting to slip and have so each year since. We love going and I think overlook many things.

Now, hang on, I'm zipping up my flame retardant suit because I'm going to sound like a royal "b" with this. This is not necessarily DVC related but I'm sure it's all a trickle down effect. It seems, and DH agrees, that Disney offers so many specials that it has become overly economical to go. We feel this has really lowered the standards for everything there. Our trip, in Sept., we saw several families where the parents were using STRONG profanity IN FRONT of their kids and of course in front of mine. When you make WDW cheap enough for just anyone to go - just anyone will (I think all kids should be allowed to experience WDW but maybe not the parents ;) ). And, making it cheaper, I'm sure cuts jobs and therefore the quality is also cut and mousekeeping not caring as much.

JMHO

To the OP, I'm sorry you have decided to sell. I would also let DVC know that this was the deciding factor. DVC & WDW really need to get back on the ball.

I actually remember that!!

What I don't get is HOW MANY PEOPLE obviously get poop someplace other than where it was intended to go!!! Seriously, HOW do they do this??? And, why does this seem to be such a widespread problem??? :confused3 I mean, are this many people getting viruses which cause poop to "explode" out of their bottoms as they sit or rise from the toilet??? I really don't understand!!

People do VERY strange things!! When I was a flight attendant, I found poop several times all over the walls of the airplane bathroom. I mean, how DOES someone do that????!!!!

I am all for fixing whatever problems DVC mousekeeping is having, but, seriously....what kind of people are buying DVC???!!!! And, what is happening to the park bathrooms? Are people SUCH slobs that the bathrooms in the parks are so gross??? I just don't get it!

When we were in Germany, the people there were fanatical about clean bathrooms....Germany had the cleanest bathrooms I had ever seen. Some McDonald's even had toilet seats that would rotate and get washed after every flush. It was amazing!!! And, if there was a single piece of toilet tissue or anything on the floor, the German women would not use that bathroom. They would ALWAYS wait for another one. (Of course, they didn't have trash cans in their McD's either...you just slid your tray onto a shelf, and the employees were constantly emtying the shelf.) Why are Americans such bathrooms slobs???!!! :confused3

I went to the Cheesecake Factory last weekend, and I wanted my dd to wash her hands. She is so short that she ends up getting her arms all wet as she leans across to the sink, and the counters were absolutely soaking wet. So, before I could let her wash her hands, I had to get a bunch of paper towels and dry the sink. Then, after we finished eating, I took her to the potty again, and once again the counters were soaking wet...so, I had to get towels and dry them off again. I am always doing that at WDW, too. People don't leave the counters in their home soaking wet, so why do it in public?

Don't get me wrong....WDW service is slipping, and mousekeeping needs to do better....but, Americans need to stop trashing public restrooms, and they need to stop spreading poop on the walls and doors of DVC rooms!!!

For the life of me....I just cannot figure out how someone would POSSIBLY do that??

I couldn't agree with you more!!!! Honestly, if your child or member of your family got poop on the walls of some where you were staying, wouldn't you clean it up? I would be so embarassed to leave a room that way! How disgusting! :crazy2:

While we are sort of on the subject, I would also like to know how the rooms get so dinged up! (Marks on the walls and chunks of paint missing!) What are people doing in there? I see such lack of respect and care for other people's property everywhere I go. :sad2:

Hearing a lot about Disney being understaffed--at DVC housekeeping, in the parks, etc.
Is it a case of no one wanting these jobs (with them hiring anyone who stumbles thru the door), or Disney just trying to cut corners??
