Extreme heat warning, please stay safe!

Today all of Central Florida (including Disney) is under an extreme heat warning, with feel-like temps reaching up to (and maybe over) 110 degrees. Drink plenty of water and try to find shade as much as possible. Mid-day might be a good time to hit those longer attractions, like CoP, Presidents, etc.

I haven’t been going outside unless it’s absolutely necessary. For example, today I will have to put my trash can out at the curb and it’s not happening until after the sun goes down. I have been eating sandwiches and cold cereal instead of cooking, not doing anything that would generate extra heat in the house because the AC is working hard enough. It looks like we should start getting a break in the weather around Thursday.

For anyone in the parks, drink lots of water and supplement it with drinks containing electrolytes. Drink even if you don’t feel thirsty. You don’t want to get dehydrated and your body will need the electrolytes to function properly. Take that afternoon break to go back to the room, have a cool shower, and rest. If you can’t leave the park in the afternoon to go back to your hotel, take a break in one of the Disney resorts for a while. Have a late lunch at a resort restaurant and visit the shops. Plan for long, show style attractions during the hottest part of the day and stay away from outdoor queues in the afternoon.

It’s brutal out there, so stay safe!

We traveled in late August for many years. Hats, water and sunscreen every 2 hours, start early, take a mid day break, return after 5. Kids are often less able to cope than adults!

Here now. Today is Magic Kingdom. Yeah it’s hot, really hot. Not unmanageable though. I think the key for us is taking afternoon breaks back to the resort and letting the hottest part of the day go by…. And also frequently asking for the free ice waters at the quick service locations. Also just a little tricks like cutting through the Emporium with nice air conditioning instead of walking all the way down Main Street, stuff like that. Love that the magic Kingdom is open until 11 PM so we can take advantage more of the cooler hours.

Stay safe everyone.

I really hate admitting this, but I’ve noticed that I don’t handle the summer weather in Orlando as well as I once did. And the weather here at home has been brutal as well (93 degrees at noon, real feel 105 degrees, tropical dew points). And we were once yearly summertime visitors. So I take the warnings even more seriously now. Keep an eye on your traveling companions using the buddy system too! Stay safe, everyone.

Kiddo is doing summer camp at Sea World while mommy resort hops this week. The heat has been miserable this week and I live down here. I feel bad for all the melting tourists I keep running across. So many look wilted.

Not as bad as Orlando.

Still very high feels like temperatures when it’s 100f in the middle of huge forests.

I’ve only been going out at night unless I have to. We melted going to MK yesterday late afternoon. But storms nearby knocked down the temp and humidity by 7pm.

Before we went, I drank plenty of water. I had heat exhaustion a few years ago at Epcot. And it hit fast and hard. The warning signs I ignored were lightheaded, stomach pain, and perfuse sweating.

Saw this the other day

Be careful out there. We took many trips during the summer months - June, July but mostly end of August (worried about summer school or regents class/retest).

It can be done but really need to take it easy. Go out early morning or evening. Plenty of water, hat, sunscreen. Take breaks in AC places/shade.

Those days are over, I will only go if we are going on a cruise and add a few days at WDW or if the grandchildren go and I will be staying at the resort mostly. I can't tolerate the heat like I did years ago.

It's pretty hot here at home and I only go out early in the morning if I have a choice. Listen to your body!! Hydrate!!

It’s not much different than the northeast right now unfortunately. I do second what one poster said that it’s harder when you get older. We always went to WDW in the summers, and I didn’t mind it too much when I was younger. And this was before water bottles, so we’d all just share a soda every few hours! But the fact is that it’s harder for older folks (and babies) to regulate temperature, so it’s more dangerous for them.

I'm here now. I usually travel at the end of August because I have an annual small conference with a group and we've been doing the same week together for work planning and fun for 25 years. This has been a brutal week with the temperature so high so we do not plan to repeat the experience in 2026.

Going to the pool isn't a help because the pool water is like a bath tub and I haven't been able to get a chair with even half shade since Sunday.
I've been drinking a ton of ice water but have hesitated unless I got the drink from a restaurant. All the restaurants and quick serves will give you a huge cup or more with a smile. You do not wait in the regular line but go the side of the counter and ask.

I was not impressed with Sa'Tuli(?sp) in AK and how they handled giving out water for refilling your personal bottle. There should be water bottle refilling stations everywhere. You press your bottle against the back and the water comes down about 3 inches from the top of your open bottle. Instead, they had these mammoth brown jugs with spigots so every person stuffed their bottle that their mouth had been on, directly on the spigot. Be sure and get your water via the counters in the tall cups.

I'm pretty tough but ended up in First Aid after a half day at Animal Kingdom due to heat reaction. Huge applause to the people who work there.

I will write more later about my MK Premier Pass experience. Just too tired tonight.

So as much as I will never travel to WDW again in mid-summer. I found both the visitors and the CMs pleasant and super friendly.
