Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

Ahh..things didn't go so well for Lucy and Ricky. There was lots of stuff flying around about them also. They had their share of rag mags, infidelity, gossip, drinking, divorce, etc. We just didn't have the instant internet back then. By the time it was published, it was often glossed over.

My point was that one was an accomplished actress, the other is a "hanger on." They aren't even close to the same class.

I loved Lucy (no pun intended), but she did have a hard start, with a lot of B movies and failures (she was sent home from acting school as having no talent LOL). She persevered and really turned herself into what she became which was an accomplished actress. I thought that was the comparison they were talking about. Do I think Kate can act? Nope, but then I don't think we'll see her cast in movies, either. Lucy had a very interesting past.

When I try to picture what these kids will face inthe future...:sad2:
Kate has admitted the divorce and all of the scuffle has affected them and they were in counseling...she will not admit that having their entire lives on national TV affected them  That was all just "fun and playing" and the divorce would have happened anyway (probably, who could stay married to her?) - so it must be all Jon's fault that the kids were effected.

But this is the thing, as screwed up as their little lives must be right now with all the nannies and the embarrassment over how their parents are acting - think what they will face as teens (when they really find out what the whole world already knew) and as young adults. Can you imagine them finding a partner that doesn't look at them as one of the "8" and just as an individual? Can you imagine anyone wanting to have Kate or Jon as in-laws? Will they ever have a date where a person doesn't ask one little thing about their crazy childhood? Kate is in for a truck load of craziness when that all starts to happen.

Right now it is all about her life, and the kids really don't have a life other than how they fit into her life. There is no family, not many activities as far as we can tell, and not many if any friends. They are allowed to play with each other and be at the house with the nannies waiting for their next photo op with Mom. Wait until they all are seeking their own lives, and they all bring more people and more family into Kate's life. Wait until Kate can't keep them under her control anymore. Wait until Kate not only has to control Jon, and her 8 kids, but also has to try and control 8 significant others and their parents and families. Wait until there are friends and friends families to control. Grandchildren. Lord help them all. Can you imagine the "insight" she will have to offer us then? What TLC needs to understand is that there is NOTHING more annoying than someone acting as if they are only and first person to experience anything. Yes, Kate you are a parent. Good for you. Every person on this earth has had at least 1 parent at some point. There is NOTHING new about what you are doing. We don't need advice from you. Yes, when you were selling out your babies, they were cute, and we watched them, but we don't care about anythign you have to teach us. In fact, part of the reason we watched the show was because we couldn't believe how you did things and we watched with our jaws dropping, thinking how we would handle it differently. Perhaps the show should be Kate taking advice from other moms, now THAT would be an interesting show.

I have a cousin who is one of these women who thinks she is the first and only to do every little natural thing in life, and thinks we all care about it all and that she is so interesting. She is younger than me and it is so annoying when she goes on about herself. When she picked a college, you would have thought only she knew anything about colleges. When she got married, hers was the only wedding that was ever perfect. When she had babies, oh Lord, was she the authority on everything motherhood. She blogs about everything as if everyone cares about every little cute thing her kids say as much as she does. God forbid I tell her anything about my family, she almost rolls her eyes, like "why are you telling me this, your kids aren't cute, only my kids are cute" I am contantly getting "alerts" to check her newest post to her blog. I am so close to telling her I don't read her blog and don't care that much about the little details of her life and she is not that important in the world and that her little attempts at being humorous and profound are annoying to me. Kate is the same way as my cousin.

that is EXACTLY what I thought. Shame on Kate. Seriously. Shame on her.
Although I would be lying, if I said I wouldn't be watching. I love watching the kids, and for shame, I'll be there. YOu can all send me hate mail now LOL.

I wonder....sometimes people agree to bizarre situations, in exchange for something. Sometimes in exchange for keeping quiet. Just my thoughts wandering.
I don't get Jon. He said last week that he spent 14 days with the kids when Kate was first off to DWTS and doing the ads, etc. He seemed happy for her. Now she's a bad mom, because she's gone for several days a week.

Also, did the divorce papers mention any of this, such as his living in the guest house? I thought it just said Kate got to live in the house. I don't remember reading then, that Kate got to decide when he would see them. And didn't we see Kate with all the expenses written down? Why would the arbitrator allow those papers to not be entered in when figuring the support?

I wonder how much is lawyering..trying to get the support lowered. I also wonder if he tried having the lawyers discuss this first, and was there no way to keep this quiet? I can understand Jon wanting to change the support, but is this usual in PA? In NY, I think you can only come before family court once every two years.

And whatever happened to his TLC case..I thought they agreed to drop it and he would allow the kids to be taped again in exchange (I've just been thankful that that didn't seem to happen).

It is every 2 years for normal people in Pa. I think Kate having control over when he sees the kids is very weird....something is going on with Jon that we do not know about IMO.... if this is even true.

In Pa your expenses have nothing to do with child support. It is a formula each parents earing are entered in x each child & out comes the amount.

I wonder how the kids feel about starting up the show again? I suppose it depends on how Kate spun it for them...saying that they'll get to do all the fun things they used to because of the show. Maybe now they can take that trip to the Statue of Liberty! Seriously though, I am curious to see just how many Kate+8 specials there will be. I'm sure it will be a test for TLC, to see how many viewers tune in and then if the ratings are up, the show will go full force. Then she won't have do her other show Twisted Kate. Which sounds ridiculous anyway. Hey, maybe for her new show, I'll send her a letter talking about how she's so inspiring and then she can come to my house, be a stay at home mom, homeschool my kids, run them to ballet and piano and field trips! I'm sure she'll offer lots of insight!

:rotfl:Twisted Kate! Love it. And from here on out, on the DIS the new show will officially be referred to as "Twisted Kate". That is my official proclamation.

Good idea! We will send letters to get on the show and when she comes to our houses, we will see what insight she has for us. Hmmm, I have 4 kids all with very active social lives, I'm involved at church as is my husband, I don't have any nannies, or any hired help, all of my kids are involved in several sports every season which my husband and I help coodrdinate and coach. We actually give back in our community rather than sapping off of it. I cook all the meals, I do (and fold!) all the laundry. I am in a loving relationship with my husband. What insight could she offer me? "Get a reality show and sell out your kids so you don't have to work so hard?"

you won't be alone, I'm sure. LOL

unfortunately, that just perpetuates the cycle... not you watching, but people in general watching, keeping the kids on TV

Isn't that the name of the show though, Twisted Kate? What the heck is the name then??

Yes, let Kate come to your house and give you advice. Let's see, I've got it! I know what insight she would give you. She'd tell you to get a bunch of nannies! She'd be all like 'honey, why are you doing this all yourself? Get yourself a couple of nannies and then you won't have to do anything besides tan, get your nails done and go to Starbucks.' Ok, I'm obviously in a snarky mood today!

{sigh} I know.

I just don't know if it's any different if I watch the show on air, on youtube, or read and write about them. Whatever gives them attention, keeps the cycle going. So, if I'm going to be guilty of perpetuating the cycle, I might as well get to see those cute faces LOL.

Oh, yes, now in my mind the show is called Twisted Kate. :rotfl2:

But I think the name TLC gave it was "Twist of Kate" you know like a play on the phrase "Twist of Fate"

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

ok. I've read the press releases for Kate's new show....

"In this new series, Kate Gosselin travels around the country to find out how other people juggle work, family and all the other challenges life throws at them," TLC said in its announcement.

While I've been all for Kate making her own way without the children on TV, this doesn't sound like the right project. Obviously, TLC disagrees. We'll see what the American people have to say.

Also, this show doesn't sound like something that's going to keep Kate close to home. I wonder if Jon will be allowed custody while she travels?

and it seems to me that Kate Gosselin might stay closer to home for a while and create some stability to help out her own family instead of trekking off to help others.

I wonder how much choice she has in what shows she does, with her contract? Apparently they had idiots for lawyers when the deal with TLC was closed, judging by what their pay has been.

that's a very good question!

as someone that has been generally supportive of Kate, what do you think of the concept, Doris?

The concept of the show? I don't think she is the right person for it. But then I don't really like that kind of show with anyone doing it. I really don't know what she would be right for (certainly not dancing). But I think people will watch (I doubt I will, unless all of you here do, and I get 'forced' to watch it LOL) just to see if she does good, or so they can say how bad she is LOL.

I keep trying to think of what she could do (and I really doubt she would get hired anywhere right now as a nurse) and really, I don't know. Even if she got her life back on track, and started living a perfect life, I don't think she could make money out speaking. Even if her book is tasteflu, the accusations will be she is using her kids. I really think the only thing she is going to make it with, are the specials. The kids are what got people watching her and Jon to begin with.

Of course right now all the little people shows are big, if she could become a little person, and make chocolate, or become a doctor, or have a regular size child, she might have it made. About the only other thing both sides might want to see her on (LOL..just kidding) is survior. But then she'd have to leave her kids, like the other contestants do.

How about you Madge..any ideas for what Kate could do that would pass muster for those who aren't supportive?

Gosh that's so funny! I guess she is going to have to marry a little person! I honestly cannot think of anything she could do that involves dealing directly with other people in any way. (ie, her being good at something in the limelight)

same here. It's not something I would watch, regardless of the famous person featured. Unless it was George Clooney. Love him. :upsidedow

that's a good question ... and I'm not sure my answer is something Kate would like, LOL.

First off, I think she should stay home for a while. Lay low. Let the dust settle. Stay home and spend time with the children, and figure out who the person she is, now that she's divorced. I'm curious if Kate has ever volunteered at the kids' school or taken them to their practices, etc? If she hasn't, maybe she could take advantage of the free time she has and do that.

I wonder if Kate has ever though about going back to school, if that's something that would interest her? If it does, then the possibilities are endless.

Honestly, I don't think Kate is well suited for much of the entertainment industry. The talk show didn't work for her, nor did speaking engagements. Maybe commercials? She could film in NYC and have her back home fairly quickly.
