Johnny Depp is in Disney World

Every year, someone posts "on good authority" or "from a family member in the know" or "based on very reliable information" that Johnny Depp will be appearing at one of the MNSSHPs as Jack Sparrow.

It never happens.

Despite every story to the contrary, Johnny Depp has NEVER appeared as a "surprise" as Jack Sparrow at any MNSSHP. He has dressed as Jack Sparrow for various events at DisneyLAND, but they were all scheduled events and appearances based on his promotion of the various Pirates films.

This rumor pops up every year. I imagine this year it's part of the push for people to purchase the new Pirates movie, available on DVD/Blu-Ray this month.

i was going to say the same thing. this rumor goes around every year and it's always proven not to be true.

i've yet to see a picture from anyone of Johnny Depp at WDW as a "surprise." and i honestly think we could tell the difference.

Why? Because Johnny Depp has historically done such things. He's quirky and sometimes playful and he likes to do unusual things. He wouldn't disrupt anything but would appear instead of someone who would still be paid. I do agree that Disney wouldn't be happy with it though.

He was there last year around Columbus Day weekend. We missed him by 1 night. From the people who saw him, they said you wouldn't even know it was him because the "fake" Jack Sparrow is dressed so well that he looks like the real one anyway and you couldn't tell the difference. I suppose if you knew he was going to be there, you could but who knows.

I can stop this rumor right now by telling you its impossible he will be there as he is currently locked in my closet as my love slave. I do love a dirty pirate! If he is a good boy between now and Thanksgiving I may take him along on our trip.

Exactly what I was going to post, this same rumor circulated another board I visit that he was there on 9/27. We were there that was NOT J.D. in the parade or at the meet and greet when we went by.

A quick google search revealed he was on set for a movie overseas on that date, completd with pictures. I'm sure when this next party passes you can probably find him still on set for that movie, I think it was in England.

I just love Johnny Depp! Just thought I would mention that on this thread! He does love the character so who knows what that man would do on a whim. But I also doubt it when he is on location and doing so many movies. But wouldn't it be awesome to meet him.

I could totally spot the difference. While we have seen some awesome performances and good make up on CMs at WDW - none of them have ever actually looked like him, IMO. We got great photos of the guy in this years Boo to You parade, and my son even had some fun with him the last night we were there and I can guarantee - he sure wasn't Johnny Depp.

But have you ever seen Johnny Depp in costume in person to compare him to the ones in the parks?

Some times when people see real people in person they are like no way you are "that" person "that" person is so much taller, prettier, thinner, etc.

Its like I have heard stories where someone like Depp competes in a Jack Sparrow Costume Contest and loses because the other guy does a better Sparrow than Deep does.

I think Johnny Deep could pull off playing Johnny Depp playing Jack Sparrow at WDW. (think about it)

On top of that ... why would Disney allow it unless they were going to promote the heck out of it as a way to sell out Halloween parties. I mean ... if he's "unannounced", what's to stop there from being two Jack Sparrows on the street at the same time? And if Depp decides he's just going to wander around on his whim throughout the party, how does Disney schedule when and where their Jack can Meet & Greet with Guests?

I don't see how Disney would let a "surprise" visit happen. Simply because Disney is a company, why wouldn't they advertise one of the highest grossing movie character coming to WDW? Wouldn't they want to advertise it to make a higher demand for the party tickets that night? Selling out that night so that people pay more money to see him. I would not believe the rumor mainly because you're going to get several peoples hopes up to be severely disappointed.

Because if it they advertised it, the place could become a mad house.

Think of this as a magical moment or more of a think Johnny just likes to do for himself and a few lucky people. Kind of like the year of a million dreams.

If word gets out that he may be at any MNSSHP it makes all of the them more popular because its random.

Or it could just be a rumor that Disney's highly honed marketing department puts out to create these long threads in message boards or people post on Blogs.

Also what a great way for Johnny Deep to be in WDW, he gets to walk around disguised as himself.

Maybe its an impersonator or maybe its him playing someone that look like him.

The ONLY way I could see this happening is if he were on the parade float. It's safe, basically. Other than that, I don't buy it for a second.
