Is Disney Really Cutting Hours?

I think for those of us that got used to MK closing at midnight in the summer 10:00 or even 11 felt like a major bummer. There is so much to do at MK. AK at night is very cool and will improve even more with time. And for those of us who remember Evening EMH there fondly, its really great to have it open late. But I am still very bummed about the reduction in hours at MK. Hashing numbers and the history of park numbers is fine and good, but what the impact is, will be different for everyone. They can keep AK open 24 hours a day and I will still miss the MK midnight closings.

This is kind of off topic, but my most favorite memory was Dec. 13th, 2014 when my DH, DD and I arrived at Disney World at midnight, checked in and went straight to the Magic Kingdom and stayed until the park closed at 3 am. It was our first time seeing the kiss goodnight, too. You know how you just have certain memories that stand out? That definitely was one of my stand outs and I hope to do it again someday!

1. The Magic Kingdom is by far the most popular and crowded park, and cutting hours there has a miserable effect that extended hours at AK cannot compensate for.

2. MK used to regularly close at midnight in summer- now it's 10 or 11pm. Only being able to tour in daytime heat puts a huge damper on summer visits.

3. Extra Magic Hours have been whittled down over the past several years, as well.
Yes I'm not happy about MK hours.

We just went through a DVC presentation and then realized that it's a long investment to have as my children get older. Well when they are teenagers they would like later hours. If this is the trend, I don't think Dvc is a good idea and the hours are the major consideration in my not buying into something for the time frame a DVC needs.

Was wondering where do we get the park hours?

WDW shows MK tonight until 1AM, and it did a couple nights ago until 1AM as well. But there is no "history" on that site.

wdwinfo shows midnight Sun and tonight?

Well said. And I would add, that it cannot be overlooked that accompanying the loss of benevolent "bonus" hours have been steady price increases. It is one thing to eliminate "bonus hours" and correspondingly cut admission prices. It is another thing to eliminate benevolent bonus hours and keep admission prices static. But cutting bonus hours while simultaneously raising prices? There are words for that. But "cutting bonus hours" are not the words that first jump to mind.

Coincidentally, for me, a lot of those words have four letters...

Some will be disappointed with it and some will just shrug it off and accept it but I don't think we've seen the end of things at WDW being reduced, shrunk, eliminated, or charged more for.

Well, let's not forget what they'll be adding: plenty of hard ticket and upcharge events!
