Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning. It is 38 here now with temps heading into the 40s. It is going to be rainy here all day off and on, mainly on. Kenny is coming by today or tomorrow to put together my exercise bike. Today is Ethan's birthday. He is 9. I can't believe he is that old now. Ethan says the same thing. Interestingly Ethan's birthday is the same day as my Dad's.

Off to work. Have a good day.
Happy Birthday to Ethan! We have a 9yo turning 10 on Dec 31 and an 8yo turning 9 on January 19th. I'm sure these kids would have something in common if they were to meet.

They are still here with me as DD has only made it to Kansas City, Mo on her trip back. I doubt she will get back today but maybe by tomorrow.

My plan today is to straighten up the house! Between the decorations and the Christmas gifts and everyone being home, there's just so much little clutter adding up right now. I'm not really ready to take everything down yet, but I'm hoping to at least clear some surfaces today.
I was loading the dishwasher at almost 10 last night. People had been making messes until they finally got in bed. Haven't served breakfast yet except for my coffee. They are up but fussing about charging their tablets. NEITHER used the one charger overnight. They forget to bring one so a few visits ago we got one from Staples which has to stay here as we are not buying one every single visit. Annoying but still just a small thing. They have ipads and we are an android house so different chargers.

Clutter central here with two little girls. I insist on my tiny living room area being neat. Nothing all over the floor, etc. Half eaten food into the kitchen for attention. They will drop something wherever they are so I have to set rules, but I am lenient in other parts of my home such as kitchen/dining. Still ask them to pick up but don't go off my rocker as much as tripping over several pairs of shoes and multiple toys and products (lip balm, nails, lotion, etc) on my LR floor/rug. Plus dropping stuff on my favorite rocking chair so I can't sit down when I need to without picking up a toy or hanging a sweater or jacket.

DD is the cook and I have to allow for her messes in there to reap the benefits of a nice meal. But, she has never adopted the 'clean as you go' method while cooking. The area is large with lots of counter space and she messes ALL of it. Oh well. There are tradeoffs to everything!

Right now, I don't think oldest DD will make it home today. They stopped early last evening leaving almost 17 hours for today, with cold and high winds to deal with.

I had a bowel issue on Saturday night that affected our sleep and in the end, we have cancelled our NYE cruise. It’s for the best.
Sorry to hear that you had to cancel. Bowel issues can really interrupt things. One of my grands is lactose intolerant and it's almost impossible to keep her away from unsuitable dairy. I keep Lactaid milk for her but we eat cheese and it goes in many recipes.

Today the girls went with us to the Chesapeake Bay via North Beach, Md. The Hershey's ice cream shop was open. She wisely chose a fruit sherbet and did have a choice of an Oat milk based milkshake. Later we had Ledo's pizza - with cheese. By the time we got home she had tummy issues. Didn't last long but I felt bad for letting her eat the pizza.

DD does fruit smoothies with oat or almond milk for her. We try, but we are not always thinking or stocked to keep her problem free.

Connection issues still.

Wear your new coat in all good health and of course safe travels dear Snowysmom.

My turn to have a delivery issue. Amazon is usually so good about dropping packages at home right outside our door. Not today. The delivery picture showed a box not by a door in our building. I did get a full refund for which I'm most thankful. Walmart has been wonderful to get deliveries from as needed here. I had ordered a box of mini muffins with 5 pouches. There were only 4 pouches. I also got a refund on that. No big deal just a reminder to be sure you receive the full quantity of an ordered item.

Extra prayers dear Bobbi.

Hugs and sweet dreams to all.

Bobbiwoz Sorry you had to cancel your cruise. I hope you are on your way to feeling better.

Good morning. It is 19 here now with high winds. I can hear it really going out there. I hope my window well covers stay put. Kenny came over yesterday and put together my exercise bike. It fits perfectly in a corner of my office. Today will be a good day to use it as it will be too cold to walk outside for very long as the wind chill is in the single digits. Yesterday I heard a commotion outside my office window. There were 6 or 7 robins fighting over the berries in one of the bushes out front. I could see them right up close. I figure they must be pretty cold today. They were very chubby so they are getting food.

Have a good day. Stay warm if you are in one of the cold weather areas.

About the same weather as @Snowysmom:

(I actually ran the gas fireplace for a bit this morning.)

I did some massive clutter control yesterday - put away a few gifts that were still out and got all the Christmas wrapping supplies organized and back in the basement, which made a big difference in my stress level. (I even straightened up the small organizer of birthday wrap that stays up here.)

I ran a couple of errands in spite of the rain and caught up on the Stranger Things episodes that dropped over Christmas.

Good morning. 24 outside, going to a high of 28. The winds were howling last night. Around the lights flickered, then I heard a huge thud, and suddenly all was black. I looked outside and saw neighbors out with flashlights, and 2 firetrucks blocking the road up a couple of houses. 2 of the firemen walked down this way to tell traffic to turn around, they wouldn't let anyone through. I asked what happened, he said a tree, a big tree fell, hit the power lines. He told me to go back inside and stay warm, it was going to be awhile till the power came on. I got out candles, flashlights, and camping lanterns (battery operated) and my power bank. Thankfully I still had internet. I bundled up and went to bed at midnight, by then the house was getting cold. I might have slept an hour and woke to a text from the power co. that they were still working on it and we'd have updates later today. at 2:10 the power came back on. I reset everything, turned the thermostat up 2 degrees, made sure the tv's and computer still worked, and went back to bed. Still couldn't sleep so talked to my CO friend for awhile, and then got up and started watching Wicked For Good (on Prime). I'm sure I'll be tired later, but I'll take a nap after I get back from errands and grocery shopping.

I'm thankful to all the elec co workers who worked in the cold and the wind to get our power back on, but after 7 hours, I'm sure they had yet another job to get to.

Stay warm everyone, and be careful of the winds (supposed to last till 4 here)

Scary stuff! Across the street is an old tree in a neighbor's yard that if it falls my way will do damage. Then a smaller one in my next door neighbor's yard.

Temp here now is 33 going to 36 and it will be Friday before we get above 40 again.

DD continues her trip towards home. They are sightseeing along the way. Last night was spent in Indiana. They switched directions as they delayed by a day and now using 70 and coming across by Lynn seems to be the plan. A couple of days ago they were going to drop further south and come through the Appalachians. They are in no hurry as return to work is not until January 5.
They are traveling fairly safe but making room reservations as they go. I've helped a bit with that when signal was sfor them. Me, I don't go anywhere unless I know where I'm going to sleep!

Amazon is irritating the heck out of me. My keyboard was supposed to be here yesterday. Now it says it's in the possession of USPS but won't be delivered until Saturday, more than a full week after I ordered it.

Also, the reason I ordered a new one of the same keyboard is because I love it, the keys are super quiet. But the N and G keys stick. I've had that issue with 2 others of the same kind, and the company replaced it. I messaged them on Friday about it because it's still in the 1 year warranty. They didn't respond. I messaged them again yesterday and didn't get any notice or email from Amazon saying I had a reply. I just happened to look at messages to check, and saw it. They are going to send me a replacement. So I'll already have a spare when the new one has sticky keys, lol.

Yesterday I signed into Amazon in the early morning with no issue. Tried again a couple of hours later to look for something and got some strange security warning saying I had to update either my browsers or Amazon. This was on a PC so there's no way to update Amazon. This happened last week and they told me I must have tried to sign in while the site was doing an update. I bought it that time, but when it happened again yesterday, I didn't. Guy says there must be a glitch in the website and he reported it.
I have never had as many problems with Amazon as I have in the last month, and it's getting aggravating.

When they said big tree, I guess I expected it to be bigger, there are a lot bigger ones out this way, I have a couple of them myself, lol. At least this time it wasn't in front of my house!

Greetings everyone. Bobbie I’m sorry your NYE cruise didn’t go as planned but glad you are feeling better.
Our holidays so far have been different, Christmas Eve didn’t pan out the way we thought it would, and Christmas Day while a success was a lot of work. First time we’ve ever hosted a large gathering for Christmas Day, I think I prefer are more laid-back chilled out situation that we usually enjoy. My in-laws were up and they were their usual miserable selves so my husband had to contend with that and then we both got sick him first than me. There’s some kind of ick going around. It’s like a bad cold with a lingering cough, but fortunate to have all this time off to just chill and do nothing after the holidays to recover or relax. Feeling much better today. About 90% of the indoor decor is down and put away including the tree. Haven’t touched the outside stuff and I’m not gonna worry about it until the mood strikes me and the weather improves. I mean it’s bright and sunny out, but it’s windy as hell and cold to boot and I just don’t feel like it!
Just realized I haven’t been out of the house in almost a week so tomorrow I’m gonna take myself out and about, drop a few things off at Goodwill. I have a list of odds and ends. I need to pick up at the store, and I have a pedicure appointment at 3 o’clock. Husband is headed to Western Maryland tomorrow morning for the rest of the week so the pups and I will enjoy a low-key New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. I bought myself a new power steamer I’m going to try on kitchen & bathroom grout….yes, it’s a glamorous way to see in the New Year 🎉🥳
While we were waiting out these codes, we had we finally nailed down some dining reservations for our trip during the first few days of February. I was shocked to find a ton of availability. No, I take that back not necessarily shocked because we always have good luck finding a decent ADR even last minute while we’re already on property. But I also had no problem getting it for GO 82 and I could easily have gotten beacon barrel, although I didn’t because after reading the reviews, it just doesn’t seem to appeal to us too much.going to try California Grill for the first time for dinner and the Edison for dinner two out of the four nights were there. Made a few other lunch reservations, but will probably make another dinner reservation once we get there and see what we feel like. We are kind of spur of the moment people, so we like to sometimes decide on the fly. Knock wood, it works for us. We’re trying real hard to try different restaurants and different resorts and not always fall back on the favorites. But it’s also hard when you have gone someplace you really enjoy and it’s consistently good and you wanna go again. Staying at the poly for the first time one of the downsides of traveling to WDW on shorter notice is sometimes lack of availability at resorts that are new to us, but I’m glad we finally were able snag rooms there.
Man, the wind is just blowing here. I think it’s gonna be chilly and rather cold for the next week.
I’ve got two large bags of clothes we culled from the closets to go tomorrow, but I suspect I’ll probably end up with more before I can get back there, but maybe I’ll take another load this coming weekend. I need to clear some odds and ends out of my kitchen as well, so I may have a box of stuff. Feels good to go into the next year tidy and cleared out. Think I’ll be cleaning the fridge as well. And rearranging the freezer in the garage had so much stuff in it for the holidays that things became a little jumbled but now that a lot of that stuff’s gone, I can get it back to rights. Or at least try.
No big NYE plans for me, husband won’t be home but I think the pups & I will have some champagne & finally sit down to re-watch Dogma. It’s one of my favorite movies but I haven’t seen it in years & years- but now that it’s available again I’m going to watch it. I am not really into any parades on NYD- well except for the Mummers, but I don’t get Philly stations. I could stream it I suppose.

Pea- how ya feeling? I hope the current protocol you are on is agreeing with you.

Judique- what are your travel plans for the first quarter of the year? We’ve got two trips to Orlando (one is work), 1 to Ft Myers and 1 to Dublin (work w/ a bit of play) plus 3 trips to the NC office between now & the end of March.

How about you Lynn & Snowy & Poly? What have you guys got brewing travel-wise in 2026? Anyone else working on any fun travel plans in 2026? Sometimes the planning can be half of the fun! So far my 2026 travel plans include some places I’ve already been to sometimes many times ha ha ha ha ha and at least two places I haven’t been to before, so I’m glad to be in a position to go new places this coming year.
Well, the only place I’m going this afternoon is to the laundry room to switch the laundry and I better get to it-you guys are having a pleasant holiday week!

Last week of January 7 nights checking out Feb 1 - Disney's Boardwalk.

Four nights end of March - Kiawah Island, SC. This is booked but still in process as I might switch nights and do Charleston or something else or maybe both. It's been many, many years since I've been there and it's grown a bit so haven't decided fully yet.
Charleston area - been there quite a few times.

EasyAs I hope you are feeling better each day. You are a busy person. Your trip sounds wonderful. I love the Poly. Our first family trip was there in 1996 and then in 2022 we had a family trip at the Poly. The grandkids love it. It is nice to have a few ADRs ready to go and then some that are a spur of the moment decision.

Travel plans for 2026: In May my annual BFF trip with my NH friend this time to Boothbay Harbor for a few nights. In July a few nights at a campground in NH with the whole family. In Sept I have a trip to WDW for 4 nights, just me. And I am thinking about going back to North Conway in Oct, after Columbus Day, like Chris and I used to do. I am hoping to be up to it emotionally. I have been back to North Conway but not in Oct. I am hoping my NH friend will come along. If not it will be just me. No big trips in 2026 as 2027 will hopefully be a big family WDW trip to AKL. Plus Kenny is getting married (again) in Sept 2026 so I need time for that whole event. If I decide to retire in 2026 I do need to find a trip to go on to celebrate my retirement. I am hoping my MA friend will have something good in mind, and if not, I will brainstorm.

I definitely need to clean out the basement freezer!

No 2026 travel plans are set in stone yet, but I'd like to get down to Florida in the first part of the year to see my Dad and get some sunshine. And then maybe something closer to home this summer as well.
