This can be atributed to teens being teens. Teens are the same all over. Let's face they are pretty clueless and oblivious to everything around them except for their peers. A lot of this behaviour can be marked up as trying to be cool for their friends.

I have to disagree with this. Both the behavior of some of these tour groups, and some of the American groups I have read about is appalling. I went on a chorus trip to WDW as a freshman, and went on school trips to various other places all through high school. If we had done some of the things I've read about, our parents would have been contacted and told to come to FL and take us home. This was stipulated in our permission slips. I don't remember it ever happening. Sure, we did some goofy teen stuff, but nothing like these kids. It was always emphasized, that when we traveled, we represented our school and community, and we were expected to take that seriously.
We also always broke into smaller groups. I cannot imagine trying to do WDW in a group of 70+.

Unfortunately for you...perception is not reality. As someone's signature on here says, it is impossible to avoid upsetting those who are hypersensitive.

Those who may perceive this thread as being bigoted are simply those who have decided to abdicate all critical thinking and who abandoned their tenuous hold on reality.

So, as I understand your thought process, if I disagree with your point of view, post recognized definitions of prejudice, and others agree with my statement, we are hypersensitive and have a tenuous hold on reality? I do believe that your statement in and of itself, displays a bigoted (look the definition up) thought process.

Hey...don't get me wrong...this allllll just electronic graffiti. You certainly have the "absolute" right (well...subject to the whims of those who own this board) to state whatever inanities, bon mots, cliches or other feelings that you'd like.

I also have the right to call "bullpucky" where needed. To be candide, I have no doubt that I will not change your "mind" in regard to this matter...you seem quite convinced that your opinion on this matter is the best opinion of all possible opinions. C'est la vie.

I have not seen nor heard any of the so-called Brazillian Invaders. Nor have I expressed an opinion on their potential intrinsic rudenes, possible ignorance of American mores, or their possible subjection to messageboard meanies.

What I did express an opinion on is the not-so-veiled accusation of racism by you and a couple others that the mere fact that those with direct experience with these groups expressed dismay at their behavior...and noted the FACT that most, if not all, were from Brazil (which is merely descriptive not pejorative...no matter what twisted "logic" you may attempt to employ).

It is those who seek offense at the smallest trifles...real and imagined...who coarsen the public discourse in our society.

Just to clarify, I have used the term prejudiced ("any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.") and with respect to some name calling in response, bigoted ("One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ".) You, in turn, now use the term racist - I wonder who is guilty of the twisted logic?

i agree there were a lot. I counted at least 4 different groups with like 40 or 50 in a group. We actually had 2 groups on the plane with us form NYC to Orlando and 1 girl actually held up take off for 10 minutes.
In the parks they never really bothered me except for in Frontierland where they came form out of the blue.
Also, MGM when i was there there were no fp's for RNR and every time I walked up to it out of the blue tour groups would swarm in and clog up the line so I never got on.
Overall though it wasn't that bad and it certainly did not ruin my experience at all.

The fact is that these kids ARE from Brazil and many dont like how they act at WDW. That is what they are saying..they are not saying 'all Brazilians are animals' or any such thing which WOULD possibly be prejudiced - NO they are simply pointing out a fact and that fact is that the tour groups causing alot of these problems happen to be from Brazil.

Many cannot understand why its allowed and why they are like that. As stated by me most of these kids have learned English since they were small yet they choose to pretend they dont know it when it suits them. That is a FACT

I agree. definitely not bigot or prejudice or anything but the reason they get away with it is because they do not have enough chaperone's. I saw 3 chaperone's for like 50 or 60 kids on the plane. I'm sorry but that is not enough. Also, when 1 of the kids did something wrong on the plane the leader tried to play off an argument with the flight attendant with broken English cause he new that person was wrong but when he was accused of something that was not his fault his English was perfect. The flight attendant asked him about it and he just sat down. it was actually the highlight of the flight.

She hates the Brazilian tour groups with a passion, gets completely red in the face when they are around, embarrassed that her country's flag is flown while some teenagers act so terribly. There are three important facts here 1) Some of these tour groups act inappropriately and hurt other guests vacations. 2) Many Brazilians are kind and intelligent and don't act anymore like these groups than I act like the Pop Warner Cheerleaders. 3) If you hear a cheer or a chant, see a flag, matching clothing or any indication of a large group, go the other way!

Now, I have a question. I have been cut off in line once by a group of about 40 or so cheerleaders. I was completely stunned and caught off guard, so it was over before I knew what had happened, so I said nothing, but I really don't ever want to deal with that again - from any group. The last time someone (just 2 or so, though) people tried to cut me off, I gripped the silver bars on both sides, and held on so they couldn't pass. (Of course they told me they were meeting their mom up front and I let them go, anyway, stupid me, but that's another story) Is there a way to politely stand your ground and refuse to let people cut in front of you?

just wondering how you can say that most of these kids have learned English since they were small? While I am not saying these groups of teens have manners by any means (actually large groups of teens, any nationality, do not have the greatest manners) ???? I know someone that was a tour guide for these groups years ago. Most of these teens do not know English.. and were not taught it when they were small I am wondering where the info came from that they did Many times only a few know English

I hear ya on that one with the Cheerleaders! They do cut you off and chant and cheer on the lines as well... they also do their hair in the food courts, with parents helping them I have complained about that to CM's in the food court. I do not like smelling hair spray when I am eating breakfast! these are American's that do speak and understand English.. yet choose not to listen so it isn't just Brazilan... yes, the Brazilan do do what many are saying. I am not saying they don't, but they are not the only ones. The cheerleaders do it as well. Disney never says anything to them, in fact, they host their tourney's... They make more money when they come.. they make the money off the tourney then off everything else.. so Disney would never say anything to the Cheerleaders... just as they will not to the Brazilian tour groups.. it is money in their pockets..

I think we are thinking on the same lines here.. actually.. we must have been on the same lines would be more like it

well they're really quite young - typically the groups are 15 year old kids (since that's the brazilian tradition - to send your kid to WDW when they're 15 - strange tradition and i wonder how it got started....)...

so imagine a group of thirty 15 year olds, without very much adult supervision - whatever nationality, they're going to be WILD....in fact, all things considered, they're really not too badly behaved....

by the way, CMs, between themselves, refer to July as taco month (though they won't admit to this, since it's so not PC)...

Are these my personal observations?? No-- just reader comments taken from the 1997 Unofficial Guide to WDW!!
The Guide called July and October "Brazil Mail" months due to all the letters they got complaining about the Brazilians.

Looks like things haven't changed a whole lot in 10 years.

They are there in January too, or at least they were January 2004. They were everywhere, knocking little kids down as they swarmed the buses in the morning and cutting lines like crazy. As a queu turned a corner one or two would ease in front of you, then the whole group would join those one or two. At DTD we saw a little girl literally knocked almost under the bus wheels when a bunch tried to swarm onto the bus knocking the little girl away from her mom and grandmother and down to the ground. GM, mom, and little girl were all almost hysterical. If you were standing at the beverage station filling your refillable mugs, they would come and just push you out of the way.

After watching the chanting video on you tube, I was just thinking that it sounded like cheerleading camp.

I am shocked that Disney seems to turn a blind eye about the behaviors of large groups. Why don't they require a certain adult:child ratio? I would be embarassed to know that the student from the high school where I teach or my daughte's gym acted that way.

I don't know that any one mortal should put their life on the line trying to stop a large group of exuberant teens from line cutting. It would take a brave soul, that's for sure!!

I've seen many question, "Why doesn't Disney do something about this? Why don't they control them better?" Unfortunately, the answer comes down to $$$$$$$$!

Compare what your family of 4-8 might spend compared to several groups of 70 - 100 spoiled teenagers. The groups ensure that the hotels and restaurants are filled. How much do you think they spend in the gift shops?

Now ask how many people here have actually stopped going to WDW because of the tour groups? How many just complain and bear it? How many just rearrange their vacations around it? My bet is that we all continue to visit WDW because we love Disney and we just compain and bear it if we have no choice or we rearrange our schedules.

I don't see any harm in warning people about peak times for tour groups - then they have the option of planning their vacation better.

WDW doesn't have to do anything about it - and they probably won't - because all the tour groups bring in A LOT of cha-ching! Just plan around it.

I'm curious if you even know what "bigot" means? If not, look it up and you'll realize how ridiculous you sound using it.

It's not that these tour groups speak a different language or wear matching shirts or are different in any way. It's that they violate and disrespect the other people in the parks. If they were there acting completely considerate and just having a good time, yet people were saying "Get those Brazilians out of the parks!", then THAT would be bigoted. If people were saying they hated when the Brazilians acted like idiots, but it's ok for the American cheerleaders to do so, THAT would be bigoted. But to say it because they touch other people, knock children down, urinate on the sidewalk and expose themselves in public (which has been witnessed more than once) is NOT bigoted, unless you're a bigot against rude, inconsiderate and obnoxious people.
