Is Brazil closed?

Have you ever been in line with cheerleaders? I assure you these young ladies are from the good ole' USA.:thumbsup2 The cheering didn't bother me, but boy, it sure did most other people I was in line with. So chanting is not something only Brazilian tourists do.

Agreed.

For them I say this is Disney World, not your regional conference playoff game.

I can't stand any tour group that feels the need to let it be known they're in a tour group by making a spectacle of themselves. Very simple rules Disney could implement for all tour groups:

1.No chanting.
2.No cheering.
3.No singing.
4.No line cutting.
5.No profanity.

We saw tons of the groups last summer, but I never had a problem with them. They did start chanting, "Brazil...Brazil...Brazil" at Fantasmic, which I found really annoying, but other than that - nary a problem.

That's when you start chanting "Go home, go home, go home".

Of course, if all else fails, asking them politely to be quiet, Disney refusing to do anything, there is always one last alternative:

I do have to say that as annoying as the Brazilian tour groups were, they were nothing compared to the cheerleaders and the Night of Joy crowd. I pointed out the rude things I saw in my earlier post, but I did sell well-beahved and polite behavior, too (for example, a Brazilian girl holding the door as I exited the restroom). The cheerleader chanting would win out over the Brazilians by a longshot, and the way they travel in packs makes Brazilians seem like loners. And don't even get me started with the foul language and making-out behavior from the Night of Joy attendees. Yes, many Brazilians have a tendency towards rude behavior (or what we Americans consider rude), but so do plenty of home-grown people.

A lot of the all girl Brazilian groups are girls here celebrating their quincenearas. This is kind of like a sweet 16 celebration for latinas. The girls get to choose a huge party in their country, or a trip to WDW combined with a cruise. There are TAs that just do quinceneara trips. The typical trip runs about 10 grand per girl. Many of the girls come from very priveledged families, and their attitude shows. I've encountered quite a few groups on the cruises I've been on, and the girls can be less than pleasant, to put it nicely. Recently I witnessed one of the chaperones yelling at the girls in her group for acting like spoiled brats on the cruise ship. I've been to some traditional quinceneara celebrations, and they can be quite sweet. These groups are like my super sweet sixteen-or in this case my super sweet FIFTEEN -gone bad:sad2:

funny you say that.. I saw a link on disney site they other day with info how to have you sweet 15 on disney.

I agree with the post regarding cheerleaders. Not ALL cheerleaders are rude, but we've found in our experiences with large groups at WDW (Brazil, band kids, sports teams), cheerleaders have been the worst.

Excellent post? Why? Because it is an example of silly circular thinking and "openmindedness" to the point that your mind might fall out?:rolleyes1

Thanks so much for being the example of those that just can't see whyyyyy this thread may be perceived as bigoted...:lmao:

Unfortunately for you...perception is not reality. As someone's signature on here says, it is impossible to avoid upsetting those who are hypersensitive.

Those who may perceive this thread as being bigoted are simply those who have decided to abdicate all critical thinking and who abandoned their tenuous hold on reality.

LOL at the original post. Whenever we go there are usually huge groups of kids/chaperones from South America. And we're not bigoted as my husband's family is from South America (Ecuador and Paraguay)! It's just funny to see so many groups of people...and I must say often annoying as they get in your way constantly!

I was just going to say something along these lines, but you said it much better than I ever could.:)

And fortunately for me, I have the absolute right to make and state my own opinion on my perception, wonderfully and gloriously knowing that what an anonymous poster on a message board doesn't change my mind, and it certainly does not change facts. If you're a bigot, closet or not, in denial or not...you're still a bigot...no matter how many cute quotes you google, or how many signatures from the same message board, from yet another anonymous poster, you may ascribe to. It's also fortunate that as an adult, I don't need the DIS to shape my opinions.

And that's even more sad....:rotfl:

Not nearly as sad as my life would be if I walked around looking for things to be offended by in my daily life. I prefer to believe that sometimes, innocent obesrvations are just that. :rotfl:

and you get even funnier:lmao:

Wow. I don't think I have ever been offended as much by a thread on the DIS forum as this one. Well except for the thread where my religion was bashed. My wife is Brazilian. I can assure you that this is not their culture. This can be atributed to teens being teens. Teens are the same all over. Let's face they are pretty clueless and oblivious to everything around them except for their peers. A lot of this behaviour can be marked up as trying to be cool for their friends.

Now as far as being bigoted I have always used this method. Insert a group you know is always maligned and then see how your staement sounds. "Man, that big tour group of blacks (go ahead and insert the N word in your mind if you feel the need) is always chanting and making noise. Or, man that big tour group of Jews sure don't know how to act. GRRR.

LOL ... great post.

I've heard of these large groups getting in line as a group. Which brings up the question ...

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD A LARGE GROUP LIKE THAT ATTEMPT TO STAY TOGETHER IN ANY AMUSEMENT PARK? (Unless the group is grade-school age, or all handicapped in some way. And I doubt if that's the case with the groups being discussed here.)

....

Karnak

Well of course there was a line... you took it with you!

I'm a black guy, and I tend to think that most of the statements presented here are the opinions and feelings of people who would have the same feelings about any large group of any racial, ethnic, or religious background acting disrespectfully and/or inconsiderately towards others.

I would like to believe that the Brazilian tour groups were "singled out" because they are a group that is consistantly at Disney World and many visitors (read: American-background visitors) who happen to be there while they are find elements of large touring groups - especially those with teens (posters have also mentioned cheerleaders, Jersey Week, band kids, Pop Warner, etc.) - are quite disrespectful and unneccesary.

I tend to think that if a standard of behavior or a certain set of guidelines was in place and clearly enforced for large tour groups, everyone would be happy and able to enjoy Disney World. I, for one, like the idea of a Cast Member or two assigned to each large touring group to work with chaperones/group leaders to ensure all guests' priveledges are respected.

While I believe the above to be the case, I think we all should carefully consider how we present things on a forum of this nature and keep others' feelings in mind, as written/printed statements cannot and generally do not convey the type of person one is in their day to day life (as face-to-face or oral interaction would.)

<---is coming out of the woodwork. No one has stated that *every* Brazilian that exists is rude. No one has attacked Brazilians as being lesser or lumped every Brazilian into one stigma (unless I have missed a post and that I do apologize for).

People have stated experiences with tour groups (mostly Brazilian tour groups; as observed upon their shirts or chants). I do not believe anyone has said that every single person in the tour group or every person who lives in Brazil is rude. People have already stated that they are teenagers and like teenagers all over the world are not easy to handle. Yes, they may have cultural differences in what they perceive as manners, which was already said. I do not see what is wrong with stating your experiences with a tour group/s whether they are from Brazil or somewhere else. Others have stated their unpleasant experiences with cheerleading groups and the like. I respect everyone's opinions on this thread. Because as one of the recent posters above has said they have the right to their own opinions and perceptions. What I don't find is nice (my own opinion, of course) is putting down others for their opinion. Or telling another person how they should think or feel. But, I do come here, as an adult, for opinions and friendships from the DIS about Disney World. So many tips, thoughts and information *have* shaped my opinion about having a fantastic vacation with my family in the World. I know from this thread it may be advisable to avoid July for the abundance of tour groups during this time. NOT because I have negative feelings towards Brazilians or *any* other tour groups (they have every right to love Disney the way I do and enjoy it in their own way), but to avoid being cut in line by 100 students. I'm not saying this is the case with *every* tour group. If you think closely on it, especially for teenagers, I'm sure they were told to stay together. It makes sense, whether it is rude or not. It would be horrible if one of them got lost or hurt. Which could also be amended by having more tour guides per students, as stated earlier. So, I'm glad that someone started this thread. I do not have a lesser opinion of Brazlians, nor of cheerleaders...it was stated as a fact that there are more tour groups during certain times of the year. To me it's just another bit of useful information; just the same as when crowds are highest, or times of the day for longer waits in line, dining reviews (always good and negative reviews on any restaurant), but it's up to the reader to process the information in the way that they want.:)

Luckily I've never witnessed any of these groups (although I would like to see Jersey week as I am from right over the bridge and growing up in Philly in the 1980s I had a HUGE crush on guys from Jersey LOL) but the way everyone describes the Brazillians reminds me of an old Flintstones episode. Fred is considering buying an amusement park and whenever he goes to get on a ride, people rush in front of him (the seller was trying to make him think it was packed.) I think we are all the Flintstones here (trying to bring some laughter to the post)

I haven't read all the post on this thread, but here's my two cents.

I've been in WDW in July probably 15 times over the last 20 years. These large groups of people are rude, loud and have no consideration for anyone around them.

It is not the nationality that bothers me, it is the conduct. I would have a problem with any group that acts that way.

I'm not sure why that would make me a bigot - well, maybe I am bigoted against rude people.
