Is Brazil closed?

We saw four tourgroups of loud, obnoxious teenagers on our trip in July 2005, and they blocked sidewalks, chanted, and created logistical headaches wherever they went. Also, some of the behavior exhibited ran towards the dangerous. This inculded teens knocking over small children and physically pushing adults out of their way in restaurants. In each case, the teenagers I was observing were wearing t-shirts that said "Brasil."

In what had to be one of the odder moments of the trip, my dbf, who is also a very talented linguist, turned to the members of one of these groups, who were consistently pushing into us from behind in the Peter Pan queue, and politely asked them to stop (in English as they had been speaking in English). They put on a confused face and did not stop. This was followed up with a loud, mocking sort of conversation in Portugese about the silly (not exactly the word used) man trying to give them orders. He proceeded to explain, in Portugese, that he was not silly or bossy, but would appreciate it if they'd knock it off (also not a direct quote). The result was stunned silence and then a decreased noise/pushing level. Dbf got some applause for his efforts.

I now run from tour groups at WDW. All tour groups. Yes, I *am* judging peope based on the little flag, the matching shirts, and the herd-of-cattle pattern of movement. I am prejudiced ... against tour groups. So far my only experience has been with Brazilian tour groups. However, and let me make this perfectly clear, I'm ready to be annoyed by people of all nationalities, colors, and tour company affiliations in the future. I dislike all rude people equally.

I'd like to add that I thought the original post was really very funny. I'm going to Brazil in two weeks ... I'll let you know if we're the only ones there.

My family just got back today from a 14 day trip. We stayed at ASMo. Their were tons of brazilian tour groups. it does not matter where they were from just that they were rude and unserpervised. I do not understand the value system in their country for respect for other poeple but they showed none to me. FOURTEEN days we were their and not once, no not even one time did an adult or teen ever say parden me or excuse me or whatever it is in Spanish. I am smart enough to figure it out. I am proud that my 10 year old "excused" himself numerous times.
We experienced constant noise and repeated knocks on the door until 3am on most days.
this was a rolling billboard to never go in July and never stay at a value resort again.

I think you should write a letter to Disney and describe your 14 day vacation to them. Tell them you'd like a refund and that you're not coming back (and you are going to describe your recent Disney vacation to every person you know - including the internet) until Disney promises to do something about this. It is outrageous that someone's vacation can be ruined by these rude, obnoxious teenagers!!

I don't care if it's PC or not. They're out of control. The CM's don't do anything about it because they're out numbered. They're afraid.

Disney needs to bite the bullet and lay down the law somehow.

I'm sorry you had to endure this for 14 days.

we were there july 1-9-we saw the groups infrequently, guess they were not on our touring plans. the only run in with them was on the tot, we were in line and some of them were ahead of my son in line, then about 25 starting cutting the line to get up to them, when they got to me i said no, we were in line, they did not try to go any further. and yes they were chanting while they were in the line. i had heard about them on these boards so i was prepared. otherwise we hardly saw them at all. sure glad they did not stay at ssr, or perhaps we did not see them

We always go the first week in June and this year was the first that we ran into a lot of Brazilians. Yes, they were quite overbearing! We thought about going in July next year since early June this year was so crowded, but mabye not....:rolleyes1

I would just like to add that rudeness knows no nationalily. At Blizzard Beach in May, my DD8 and I were in the locker rooms and there were two Japanese women in a changing stall. It's clearly not a bathroom or a toilet, it's just a stall with a bench and a curtain for changing into/out of your swimsuit. These women -- they were in their late 20s/early 30s -- did not close the curtain and then proceeded to spread their legs and pee on the floor, and then giggle like crazy about it. They stepped over their own puddle on the way out.

These women obviously were not Brazilian, were not part of a tour group, and were not teenagers... yet they were far and away the most obnoxious rude people we encountered during our 6 days at WDW.

Right now there just happens to be a lot of tour groups visiting from Brazil. The same conversation will be occurring before too long when it's time for the Pop Warner kids to decend upon WDW, and then again when the cheerleader groups swarm in. Whenever there are times that attract certain demographics, people are going to be annoyed and are going to vent. If it's not the time of year for any visiting groups, there will be threads complaining about stroller-rammers and ECV users. It's just the nature of the beast.

 How disgusting!

DH and I have decided that it is best for the wellbeing of both the Brazil groups and our family that we do not visit during July. It is very possible that he would get physical with someone who pushed or was mean to one of our children. Which leads me to wonder why there are no reports of physical violence. I am amazed that people have exhibited such behaviour and not been punched. NOT that I approve of physical violence, because I don't. I am just surprised that during the hot and extremely crowded summer months it hasn't pushed some people over the edge. Maybe because most of them are young:confused3

Why should anyone get physical. If you see them walk the other way. I was by SM and they were sitting down and chanting and singing and we just turned and walked the other way. No fists needed, just like civilized people do.
They did pay also to be there and it is not the kids fault it is the chaperone's, and I think Disney should just tell them to get more chaperone's.
I would go in July again if I had too. My problem is the heat, not the tour groups. They were everywhere and only cut me off on 1 ride.
What exactly r u confused over? No physical violence? Most people think with there heads and not there fists.

I was referring to the reports of being pushed and shoved by them, not sitting and/or chanting. Any while I agree that most people "think with their heads" there are some that do not, which is the type of people I was referring to. Once again, I repeat that I do not approve of such violence, but was surprised that a hot head hadn't overreacted.

Count me in with the ones who walk the other way,

BUT

are we reinforcing bad behavior when we do this? Making it easier for people to do this? "Just stay in a really large group and be really loud, people will go the other way and we'll get on the ride ten times faster."

I am not a confrontational person, unless I feel I am in danger (as the last poster said) or I witness something that I think could hurt others but I just wonder sometimes.

If I were walking along, minding my own business, and someone purposely pushed me down, there is no way I could even stop my husband from going after that person. Not a chance.

I don't know if we're in the minority or just go lucky, but we just got home yesterday from an 8 day trip and had no problems with the Brazilian groups this time at all. This was our second July trip, the first being in '94 when we were on our honeymoon and had a LOT of trouble with the tour groups. That trip pretty much kept us from going back in July until this year. However, this year, no real issues.

I saw plenty of groups, but none being unrulely, very limited chanting, and no singing. We did avoid EMH, arrived early in the morning, skipped the afternoons in the park, and did limited touring in the evenings, so maybe that kept us free from bad behavior, I'm not sure.

Our one run in with a group was with us being the pushy ones, and it was somewhat ironical...

We had FPs for Soarin', and when we walked up to the FP entrance there was a tour group - flag and all - blocking the FP entrance while waiting the 3 minutes for their FP window to open. The DW wasn't waiting, so she parted the sea of Brazilians with the FPs held high and the CM waived us through. The irony came when one of the girls in the tour group shouted out, "Hey! There's a line here!!" at us. I turned and said, "No there isn't, this is the FastPass return, you're just in the way." Not sure the shouter heard it, but I felt better. :)

my friend worked as a CP last summer at disney. he always complained about the brazilians... some of the stories he told us were hilarious. there were two things he didn't like, 1) the brazilian tour groups and 2) the love bugs

lyzziesmom, thank you for your reasoned comments. I have been avoiding posting on what I consider to be a thread displaying rather xenophobic reactions. Over on the Disneyland Paris part of this website, there is a posted rule not to single out certain nationalities, yet I frequently read that Spanish, Italians, French, Germans etc etc are so rude, smell bad, or wear funny clothing. As a non-American reader, I do find a lot of what is posted offensive, even if it was posted by people who don't understand other cultures, or who have not been as fortunate as I to travel to much of the world.

Ironically, in all the times I have visited Disneyland Paris, including two weeks ago, the worst and most memorable behaviour I witnessed was from British or American visitors.

Certain cultures behave differently from our 'norms'. In Europe, many countries do not queue, for instance (and again, the most annoying people in the queue two weeks ago were British, ie from a culture which does queue regularly)

I understand that tour groups are annoying due to their size and behaviour, but the same can be said of large groups from any nation, or even American cheerleaders.

Just as I am certain that something I did or said may have unintentionally offended someone in France or India in the past few months, I am willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. I have very vivid memories of very bad behaviour in these countries - from a few Americans and a few British. But I would not paint all Americans or all British based on the behaviour of a few.

And no one here is doing that..we have been very clear that we do not believe ALL Brazilians are like this

it seemed that the entire country of brazil sent their teenagers to wdw for the last 10 days. everywhere we went whatever time we went they were there in massive droves. thank the lord for those brightly colored shirts they wear. at least we were able to see where they were headed and just went the other way.

their behavior was rather unremarkable and there wasnt too much of the chanting or anything i could consider rudeness. we were politely asked by a girl if we were done with our lunch, i replied in my best spanish, uno momento and she smiled and stood to the side until we finished. so other then when they all went to an attraction effectivly shutting it down to anyone behind them for hours and swarming a resturant area there really isnt anything i can really complain about.

you know they dont speak spanish, they speak portugese ;)

Several years ago, our family trip to MK turned into a tour group nightmare. This tour was not just teenagers but a mix of adults and children. As bad luck would have it somehow our MK family planned itinerary tour got in sync with their tour. They must have had read the same tour guide book. :confused3

Any who, their MO was that the tour guide/ring master would be ahead of the group and get to the next ride's entrance. The tour guide was always smiling and running interference for the mob. The guide would mill around the entrance of a ride strategically waiting till their minions exited another ride so she could spring her trap. The tour guide would always make sure she had her group's war flag hidden. As soon she knew her guided minions were exiting the other ride, she would spring into action. The group leader would block the entrance and politely explain to guests that she was just waiting for a member of her group to catch up. The other guests would nod and say "sure" since we always gracious tourists. After the tour guide gets the other tourists/suckers to agree, the tour guide triumphantly raises her the tour flag, the approaching minions upon seeing their waving war flag, they would scream out their war cry and begin the all out charge to the awaiting guide.

I must admit the first time I saw the screaming 100+ crowd bearing down on me...I knew just how Custard felt at Wounded Knee. :scared:

It became pandemonium at the entrance of the ride. The wave of minions shoved, trampled and screamed their way past the other guests. :scared1: The other guests waiting to get in line stood there with stunned expressions. The tour guide and minions all had ear to ear grins as they ran over the other guests. They were having the time of their lives. The CM on the other hand just gave the stunned audience the look "Welcome to WDW in July"

The rest of the trip I kept thinking where I would have liked to plant that tour guide's flag:dance3:

As a post script... My mention of Custer and Wounded Knee was in no way meant to disrespect or to stereotype American Indians or the brave Sioux Nation :thumbsup2

Your mention of Custer & Wounded Knee is of course disrespectful (because of the lack of knowledge) as you have combined 2 very different battles. Wounded Knee, better known as the Massacre at Wounded Knee, is the slaughter of mainly disarmed natives who were being led to a reservation. It occurred after the Little Big Horn where Custer died. Some reports suggest that as the cavalry shot the unarmed natives, they yelled "remember Custer".

Although your true intent was probably not to disrespect, the lack of knowledge of such a sad day for American Natives, is in itself, disrespectful, although unintentional.

We're at Disney right now and yep Brazil is here too. But they're fairly well behaved in the parks, no chanting no yelling no cutting in lines. The two instances where they bothered us was when the tour leader went to get FPs for the whole group at Big Thunder Mountain.. it took forever! and that they chose to meet & do head count at MK smack dab in the middle of Main Street right after Wishes.

Other than that, no problema.
