In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

HI ALL

Kat, So sorry about the Kitty. I hope all goes well and she is better fast.
again, So very sorry about the crazy month your having.

Nancy, WOW, I need a nap just reading everything you got going on. Good Luck! And double WOW I am impressed by that workout!!:worship:

Ronda, Good luck on your half and full. Sounds like you are pretty busy too.

Meg, Sorry for the bad week, hang in there, its gotta get better.

Paula, Sending you more hugs:hug: I am glad you get to do the ride. :)

Lisa, Kelly , E, EE. Hope you all are well

ASM... Eat nothing but junk yesterday. I did get 2 miles in before I took the kids to school. Enjoying not going to work!:goodvibes

Well, bad news is that she has a kidney stone and her bladder stones have recurred. Surgery is likely on Thurs. I love her dearly, but geebus the bill. We are talking Disney vacation scale money here.

Yikes! Have you ever considered pet insurance? I asked about that at our vet before, but oddly goats aren't considered "pets", they're "livestock" :confused3 I had to try, right?

AFM - I'm still training for the WDW full marathon. The Kansas City half marathon is in a few weeks. Running it as a training run with lots of water stops! This weekend calls for 14 miles :scared1:

ah. Training for the full. Kinda takes over your life, doesn't it! I promise you, you will be so thrilled to finish a full. It's such an amazing accomplishment. And I love that you are using the KC1/2 as a training run. Way to train goddess-style! :goodvibes

I have a bunch of volunteer irons in the fire. neighborhood stuff, mentoring stuff, animal shelter stuff. Soon I may drive a thousand pairs of used shoes to Iowa.

Ok. So you know I need to know more on that, right?

Hi gang,

Hanging on here. Spent the evening with my aunt and some cousins. Rough at first and then it was nice.

We found out that the funeral arrangements are set for Thursday so I will be able to ride on Saturday. A ling week ahead but I will make it somehow.

:grouphug: Yes. You will make it. And it will be amazing. and emotional. and very healing I'm sure. I'll be thinking of you over these next few days. :lovestruc

it's just the way it is 'round here. Never, ever a dull moment. Ever.

Life is still cruising along at the speed of light here. The sun has peeked out this morning so I'm going to take advantage and go for a bike ride before the monsoon rains hit.

Pet insurance, much like people insurance, doesn't work after the fact. She has had bladder stone and kidney issues for 4-5 years now, and so it would qualify as a "pre-existing condition". Believe me, I tried. :)

Well, the vet called this morning, and it's not good news. She is in renal failure. I am trying to hold it together at work and not doing a very good job. I don't know a whole lot of details yet as to what we do next, as my normal vet is out today, and will call me tomorrow.

Nancy - The shoe thing: At work I suggested holding a shoe drive for soles4souls. I first noticed this group at my local running store. The store was collecting used shoes for distribution in Haiti (earthquake). Neat idea. There's a lot of life left in shoes we discard, but many relief/charitable orgs don't take them. After our one week collection we have a small mountain of shoes. The nearest warehouse is in NW Iowa. It would be a lot cheaper to download a bunch of podcasts and tow a small trailer than to have FedEx or a freight company haul them. ROADTRIP!

Kat - Yep. Every long run is a new record now. 14! If I go 14 miles I want bling! And an ice bath.

Paula - Glad you'll be able to do the ride. +1 on the healing aspect of the effort.

Honey crisp apples have hit our local grocery store. A fall treat. They are so sweet.

DGF and I have next week off work. Fishing, maybe some camping. Downtime.

Ok goddesses, I have a workout related dilemma and I thought I'd come to you guys for advice. (Rather then what I've been doing which is sitting here worrying over it.)

So I found this studio that offers just workout classes. It was great because we do have a small gym area in the house so I could just go out and take some classes in addition to my running and weight lifting at home. So I started at this place in like March or April. I have become friendly with the owner as well as the instructors. I feel at home going there.

BUT! I realized something the other day. While I'd like to see the number or the scale get just a little lower, I'd be fine with staying this weight but I want to be toned and I know I have it in me to become toned but I think I need to change some things. First being that while my classes are fun, I'm not sure they can get me to the point I need to be at.

So I'm considering options and one option is to join a place like Boston Sports Club where I would be able to take almost the same classes I take now but I'd also be able to swim and take water classes. My studio that I go to has moved to a monthly fee and the Boston Sports Club has the same monthly fee for unlimited classes and gym use. I would also be able to pay more to meet with a personal trainer, which might be what I need to really get myself in the shape I want to be in.

Am I missing another option? Should I look into just getting a personal trainer? I know there are places like that around. I am 100% sure I have it in me physically and mentally to get to another level with my fitness but I'm just not sure I can do it with the stuff I'm doing now.

Any advice? Oh and if I do leave the place I'm at now, what do I say to the women there?

Kat- :grouphug: How are you and kitty holding up?

Paula - I've been thinking about you all day.

That sounds awesome Ronda! It makes me very happy to see items with lots of life left in them find new homes with deserving people.

Any advice? Oh and if I do leave the place I'm at now, what do I say to the women there?

I find "gym shopping" difficult, because of the emotional attachment to the people. Grocery shopping, clothes shopping? Not so much. I'm the consumer, I need to find the business that has the product I need. It may not be easy, but you need to decide what it is you need from your exercise. Is it the people that you enjoy being with that makes you go and do it day after day? Or is it the the equipment? The price? Location? Lots of things to factor in....

So yesterday I had a little *incident* on my bike. Yeah. I ran over a chimpmunk :squirrel: <squish> :crazy2: The little suckers have been taunting me for weeks, and I've been so afraid that this would happen. And sure enough, one ran right at me as I was cruising down the bike trail at almost 20mph. Dang rodents.:headache:

Holy crap Nancy!!! Wow!! I think I would have freaked.

Meg, it seems like a no-brainer to switch. You either go with the truth with the current gym, or give them a "bad economy" type story. It depends on whether or not you think they will ever find out you switched...

I managed to go deal with the treadmill gods tonight, and they were not kind.

Trinity is in the kitty hospital tonight getting IV fluids. Evidently her kidney function is not good at all. It could either be acute kidney failure due to infection, and antibiotics and fluids will do the trick... or it is the beginning of chronic kidney failure and subQ fluids/saline treatments a few times a week for the rest of her life.

Hi everyone...

Long day, but doing alright. The funeral was peaceful. My aunt asked me to do a reading and I was honored to do so. The cemetery service was a bit rough. Between the bagpiper and the final salute from his Norwich buddies I lost it. Spending time with family afterwards helped clear that though.

Meg - Nancy is right about the gym. It needs to fit you and your needs so all I can say is go with your gut.

Kat - happy to hear that Trinity is in treatment. I'll keep sending god thoughts your way.

Nancy - yikes on the chipmunk... I struggled with acorns last week but they aren't a living creature. Scary... Btw, if Seth leaves Norwich with the bonds that my cousin did he will be a very fortunate guy. About 30 guys from joe's class attended the funeral today. It was impressive.

The ride is in two days. I have my list and am packing my bag. The weather looks good and I have such great support from you all, my family and friends that I am ready. I am packing my camera and a trip report will follow. I promise.

We will SO be rooting for you on Sat!! What time does it start? Website? Can we track you?

I did let out a rather loud girly sounding "EEEEEWWWWW" :lmao:

Why did I not remember the Norwich connection!? I knew you had friends that went there, but it just didn't click with me. Yes. I've been told the bonds are amongst the strongest you will ever find.

I can only imagine how emotional the day was today. :grouphug:

You are going to rock this event! Can't wait for the TR!!!!

Sadly, there is no way to track me... :(

I'll try to get a post out once I am back at the hotel after the ride.

Paula  I thought about you all day yesterday. Im glad it went as well as can be expected

Kat  for you and kitty

Nancy Eww! I would have screamed and freaked out too!

Meg, Ronda, Jo, E, EE, Lisa, Everyone Hi :flower3:

Its going to be Golf-A-Rama in my house this weekend - DH is planning on watching the Ryder Cup continuously until it finishes on Sunday :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a good Friday! I'll check in later :upsidedow

Pouring Monsoon rains here this morning. Looks like biking is out of the question

Kat - how did you make out with the rains? I saw on the news that Wilmington NC had something insane like 22" of rain since Sunday?!?!?!?!

Oh - did I mention that Seth is coming home today :yay:

Paula - so looking forward to your TR of the century! I think about you as I drop to the granny ring for the big hill on my commute. Use all the gears! Yea for good weather. Good luck and you're going to rock!

Nancy - eeeek! Lately for me it's been the rabbits. They hang out beside the trail and either dash across as I approach or decide they want to race and run beside me for a ways. Haven't hit one yet. Is there a fingers crossed smily?

Kat - pulling for Trinity and you.

Saturday is the neighborhood progressive dinner. We have 60 signed up this year. One house for appetizers, split into groups for salad and entree and one house for dessert. I've only had one back out on me and I had one try to get in late that I called to fill that slot. I've got a dining room full of cheap wine and still need to get the nametags done.

Ronda

Ronda, a dining room full of cheap wine you say? Any slots left?

Nancy, we got a ton of rain but nothing like Wilmington. It skirted us to the east a bit more than they thought.

:rotfl2: I'm right there with you Kat!

Today is our anniversary. :lovestruc 22 years. Twenty two. Hard to fathom sometimes. Seth is home (:yay:) so I'm cooking tonight instead of going out. But, I think I'm going to give myself a pass and have wine tonight - and maybe even a bit of dessert. :rolleyes1

Happy Anniversary Nancy!!!

Trinity got her bloodwork back today, after a night of fluids, and her kidney function is back to normal. We have her home now and have to go back for a checkup in a week, but overall this is the best we could have hoped for.

Here's to hoping that October is MUCH better than September!!
