IMPORTANT: Change to Rent/Trade Boards Rules

I think the time element as a member is an excellent idea but as some have already noted they have been members for a very long time and yet don't have 50 posts.

And yet you could have a new member join and their 50 posts could be nothing more than one word comments, such as " I agree", "yep", "cool", or even just a smilie.

So not sure the 50 posts will help with problems. Or are the moderators going to go through each of the 50 posts to see if they contributed. That seems like a lot of work.

We have indeed done that. There have been posters that had only posted on the rent trade board, but did not have any posts on the other boards. The next day, there were then 50 posts on the other boards, we declined to allow their threads to post.

As you may have read here, this 6 month 50 post minimum now applies to all Reservation for Rent, Points for Rent, Points for Transfer and Points for Rent/Transfer threads. It does not apply to those wanting to post a reservation request by replying to an existing Points for Rent thread. It also does not apply to Point Transfer Wanted threads, or any of the seldom used "trade" categories.

I think it could also be important for a would be renter to go through the posts and possibly get a feel for what the person has contributed. I had one rental where I offered to provide references and the woman said she didn't need any as she had checked my posts and felt everything was fine.

Agreed...apart of this is the renter doing their homework as well. If the renter checks the owner's posts, and all of them were w/in a short span of time with short posts rather than substantive content, perhaps that would be a sign. I think the new change is great--it would help protect people and build more trust on the rent/trade boards.

I commend all of you for the effort, it does seem like a lot of extra time devoted.

Hopefully it will help.

I am confused after reading the new rules. I posted points for rent and had a successful transaction in August 2007. I now have some more points for rent. Can I post again for the rental? I do not have 50 other posts, as I am mostly a reader of the boards. Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry, no. All new thread submissions for the Rent/Trade board must meet the 6 month and 50 non-Rent/trade post rules before they will be approved, except for the Trade and Point Transfer Wanted categories. And they must be posts that contribute to the threads into which they are posted. Posts are subject to review by the R/T Board staff to make sure they meet the criteria and are not simply posts to boost post count quickly.

I just wanted to point out that the new rules can also be an advantage to owners and potential renters.

For the renter, we encourage you to look through the posting history of an owner, it can be a good indication of the overall personality of the owner. For instance, does the owner post pretty regularly to the non-Rent/Trade areas of the DIS? Do they contribute to the threads with their comments? Are they somewhat snarky, or do they post infrequently? That could be an indication of how difficult they would be to work with on a rental, or how easy or difficult it may be to contact them if there is a problem or question.

For the owners, the tone, frequency and interaction of your posts could go a long way in making a renter feel more comfortable in doing business with you.

I suppose I need to get working on my 50 posts. I've used the rental board for several years now with success. As I'd like to continue renting points occasionally, I'd better start working on my qualification.

This works for me. I do not post very much but I like this change. This of course reminds me that I might of messed up. Had a Thanksgiving Week reservation and had to change it to Jan. Guess I am not a speculative renter. Still have lots of points for use year and that should of been an easy week to rent. Oh well more points for me to use!!! Is this good or bad??? So confused......:upsidedow:upsidedow

LOL, looks like this thread has become the "Let's get our post count up to the minimum qualification" thread!:rotfl:

instead of reading all the useful information i am sorry i did not respond to them because of the new changes i can not rent my points until i am on for 6 months and have 50 pts even though i was a member prev but could not find my orig sign in it has good and bad points to this change some people will be losing pts because of this sorry to see this:rotfl2:

I have joined the club for a while. I have not had the opportunity to visit many places yet. I do not have much to say to people I do not know. I work 55-60 hours per week have a family with teen activities going on to fill my few hours free from all of that I now have to spend it trying to find some thread to reply to, to people who I do not know and do not know me. Just so I do not lose my points. Oh I forgot to mention that My wife was hospitalized 2 timesonce for 2 weeks and once for 3 this year and I was also for 2 weeks. So I guest it is ok that you people who have nothing to do, other than post on here and twitter (which I do not know how to use) all day can mandate that we spend our few monents of free time posting in order to meet your your desires. Some people may be selling there points, like me, for survial after a year or 2 like we had and not as some profiteering property owners. This was a selling point that convinced me into buying. The freedom to tranfer or rent the points if needed. I have seen some people with over 2000 post in my search to find something that I may respond to. Does that make that chatter box more valuable person than me? Does that mean I should lose my points or even my ownership (due to going under in this economy and with the health issues we have had, but he should not because he likes to chat???????? I think this id terrible!!!!!

Since you do not seem to have time to work on this yourself you might want to contact David rental service about helping you rent your points. It would require much less effort on your part and you would not lose your points. His ad is at the top of the rent/trade board.

The Rent/Trade moderators feel our post and time requirements help both the potential renter and the owner. It gives the potential renter a posting history to browse through, and get a general feel for the owner's posting style and overall personality.

For instance, if I were to look up someones posting history, and were to find that the majority of posts were confrontational in tone, or were looking for way around Disney policies, I would likely not be comfortable renting from that owner.

To the owner's benefit, renting is still primarily a matter of trust on the part of the renter. The owner always maintains control of the reservation, and anything that helps the renter feel more comfortable with you as an owner is a benefit.

Also, we feel you should be an active member of our online community, if you are trying to rent your points to us. Just as physical brick and mortar businesses should be an active part of their local community.

There are other alternatives, including the R/T Board sponsor, other websites, ebay and craigslist, if you do not wish to, or are unable to, meet our minimum requirements. Those requirements are not being reconsidered at this time.

You'd probably understand the reasons for the changes if you read more on the boards. The R/T Board isn't a free service for people who can't spend any time on the DIS. Sorry if it doesn't fit your needs at this time. If I were you, I'd go with castleri's suggestion to contact David. You'll still have to call to make the reservation and contact the buyer, but he'll find the buyer for you.
