I love New York (& Disney), DVC owners group!

Long Island here, western Suffolk county. I have been traveling to WDW for a long time. In 2004 bought SS and 2 years ago a small add on at poly. You would think getting airfare would be easy. Southwest in their infinite wisdom decided to severely cut the direct flights to Orlando. I used to be able to secure a direct flight very easily. Today the best I could do is 830 am direct. I always took the 6am to give me as much Disney time as possible. There were only 2 direct flights and all the others were Baltimore layovers of 2-3 hours. So i tried fronteir and after all the add ons they were more expensive. Islip/ MacArthur airport is great to fly out of but these airlines make it difficult with their pricing and availability. Did jet blue out of JFK but after adding on the transportation to the ticket it was more costly. so Long Island if flying to Orlando do it early because

Yes!! I just purchased our southwest flights - as soon as they were released. Within HOURS of the flights being posted, I managed to grab the last seats on a direct from orlando home. We got a 6am flight from ISP to orlando but not a ton of options for direct anymore.

Welcome b00kbug! This chat has been pretty quiet for a while and feel like we need to get it back on the radar :) plus I’m in isolation for another 5 days and dreaming of Disney so timing seems good for me at least hahaha

Another Queens resident checking in as I just came across this revived thread. We live between LGA and JFK and use whichever has better time and price options. We usually Delta, though sometimes JetBlue. Lately I have found that American seems not to have many nonstops between NY and MCO. We also drove 3 or 4 times a few years back. That wasn't bad, and it saved a fair bit for a family of 4, but I don't see us doing it again at this point.

We went to WDW last week and were affected by the flight cancellation mess both coming and going, but were rebooked on flights the same day so things were less convenient, and we lost a half day of vacation time on both ends, but we came out of it better than a lot of people.

Greetings fellow NYer!

Man, I can't imagine driving right now. My 4 year old has a bad case of 'are we there yet's.

Aww I’m def sorry to hear about the delays but glad you were able to get there, though late. How were the parks?

Crowded, but we almost always end up going in crowded weeks (Presidents' Day, Easter, Christmas) so it felt normal to us. We enjoyed fantastic weather, also.

Hello all! Long Islanders here (suffolk county)- and pandemic purchasers of DVC Riviera! Going for the first time in August. :D

Enjoy your first DVC owner stay. It is always amazing knowing you are going back. Takes the stress of "I have to do all of these things in case I never return." Also...Toppelino's is the best meal you'll find on property.

I was flying southwest this summer in August and our return flight was going through BWI. We got through security and received an update at like 3pm that our 5:30 flight was cancelled. Go to the desk...it was going to take 6 hours for them to get us our luggage. This was on a Wednesday and they said they could get us out of MCO on FRIDAY!!!! So at 6pm I said go ahead and fly my luggage for me I'll meet it at the airport. I rented a van and drove my family from MCO to Buffalo. Picked up my luggage at 3:45pm the next day. Got direct flights this year...but they're with JetBlue and they were 300 cheaper (after paying for seat selection and bags) than Southwest.

snow day here! Really looking forward to warm sunny orlando time this summer! 🌞

Hello! Westchester here! DVC since last march at beach club. We went down in august and October and are going back down in February. We usually fly out of LGA but live right near HPN so we might try that sometime.

Foe my fellow Buffalonians, I found recently that it is substantially cheaper to fly back into ROC and opposed to BUF. For our March trip we saved $800 by flying out of Buffalo and returning into Rochester.

Good to know. The flights out of BUF have been astronomical lately. I've checked ROC in the past and it's always been around the same price as BUF. We've flown out of PIT and that's been a huge savings, plus the flight times there and back have been favorable. What are you doing to drive back to Buffalo?

Hi NY! Former NYer. Born in the city, moved and lived in Dutchess County (Mid-Hudson Valley) for 44 years. We are retired, downsized, and moved to NC. But I still love NY. Well.....hmmmm...maybe not the taxes, but I do miss our Hudson Valley home. DVC since its inception. Loved having Stewart airport and happy to hear flights to MCO are back again.

I've always found it more expensive as a round trip. I'll need to look into this next time we book flights as I live closer to ROC but they have less direct flights and the roundtrip tend to be more.

My (retired) father is coming to pick us up. Gives him something to do!
