Automatic denial d/t bankruptcy. Should I bother with recon?
I would try. There are some recent reports on the MyFICO forum of people being able to recon a denial for that reason. (There are others who were not so lucky though). As long as you don't take it personally or let it ruin your day, no harm in trying, right? :) Good Luck if you try! That's gotta be a tough position to be in.

EDIT: just saw your picture - are you from Pittsburgh?

YES!

SPG personal card retention data point:

I received the 7,000 Starpoints for $500 in 30 days spending offer 12 days ago. The 7000 points showed up under "YTD Starpoints Earned" today under my AX login (and my statement doesn't close until the end of the month). I utilized AMEX Offers, spent $559 but got $156 in statement credits from the AMEX Offers, so my net OOP spend is $403 (but I'm reselling the gift cards I bought so that should bring the actual OOP down to $79). I wasn't sure if I'd get full credit on the AMEX Offers and it looks like I did. Redeemed AMEX Offers on this card YTD is $215, so I'm glad I decided to keep it another year.

I went to Atlantis years ago when I was a teen. I remember it being a lot of fun. My parents thought it was overrated. I’m going back with my boyfriend at the end of this month. I’ll post my thoughts when we get back. I haven’t been to Baha Mar but I did look into that too, but decided on Atlantis because of the water park.

Yes would love to hear your thoughts when you are back. Thanks.

I keep meaning to tell you guys about my panic attack I had on our Vegas weekend.

Originally when I booked the Vegas tickets, my SW RR account was still in my maiden name. I got the account changed but not the tickets. I wasn't too concerned because I haven't updated my Passport yet, so I was going to use that. At one point our flight to Vegas dropped to about the same cost as when I booked it originally, so I rebooked with my married name. The return flight never did, but a couple weeks out when I was checking it said there were only two seats left, so I went to add DH as my companion... and it wouldn't let me! Because my name didn't match! So I booked a second ticket for twice as much (at least this was all on points...) and added him. Then I could see him as my companion on both tickets :confused3 I tried to call in and get my name changed on the first ticket, but the rep got confused halfway through. I poked around on reddit, and had figured that I could check in both flights, and once I was safely through security with my passport, I could cancel the higher priced ticket. I was really just holding it that long because I'm a worrier.

So Saturday night it's around 1am, we get back to the hotel... and I realize I forgot to check in for our flight, because we were in a show when it opened up! So I pulled up my SW account on my phone, hit check in for the flight... B59. But I don't see DH's CP Confirmation number like I normally due. I hit the change button and it still says add companion  I'm sure I added him! I click it and it tells me the flight is full. Then I notice my point balance is higher, as in the exact amount the more expensive ticket in my married name cost! I search my email and see one about SW cancelling my ticket from Friday night. Then I was panicking so DH got out his work computer, I got logged in and found his CP confirmation number in my email and used it to check him in... B60. :faint:

Turns out they got my name updated on the first ticket. I'm not sure if it's from the call, or because I tried to email them a few times saying I needed it changed with all the info (ignoring the reply to fax in the info... it's 2018 dang it!). It was all weird and stressful, and I swear I didn't believe we had tickets until we got to the airport and printed them at the kiosk Sunday night. I mean, messing up our flights and spending another night in Vegas wouldn't have been the worst thing, I was more upset about the idea that was going to end up getting a flight on SW points one day out because I was trying to save myself 7k points (original ticket was 6k, and the second was 13k)

Hi All...I’ve been on these boards a while, usually the DVC ones and Just found your group....amazing stuff....thought I was doing well getting the SW points and companion ticket the last 5 years...

I’m ready to try for a different chase card, was looking at the CIP, since I do have a eBay business for the last 10years.
These are the cards I’ve opened in the last 24 months
7/16 chase SW Plus.. cl $11,000...husband as AU..I now know not to do this
1/17 chase Disney premier cl $18,000...hubby also AU
5/5 jared card...my name only ..mistake to open got a discount
9/17 chase SW business card cl$7,000... my name only
9/17 chase SW premier card cl$20,000...hubby as AU

Questions for you experts...when can I apply for the chase CIP card and should I reduce CL on any cards before doing so

I would also like to work on getting cards in my husbands name too...do I need to take him off as an authorized user on the above accounts first and what cards would you recommend getting in his name

We usually travel to Disney a few times a year...using our DVC points...my son also lives there now. Southwest is our airline of choice..we live 10minutes away from ISP so we make good use of SW points...us flying to Orlando and we also use them to fly our son back to NY

Thinking about a family trip to Hawaii in a few years so the Chase UR points look like they could work well for us
But I’d love to hear your opinions...thanks

We had a weird freak (but actually my fault :rolleyes1) issue on a SW flight once. DH and I planned a surprise trip for our girls to DL (we are WDW peeps) a few years ago for their first visit. I booked our tickets and the flights dropped a few days later so I cancelled and rebooked. Somehow ONLY DH's ticket got rebooked, no tickets for me and DD's. I didn't realize til I went to check in a few minutes before we left to the airport at 4AM (didn't bother checking at @ 24 hours cause we get family boarding). Phone rep was only able to book us a flight at that days ridiculous prices for something like 30k points per person when we booked for around 5600 points pp. Meanwhile I am trying not to let DD's overhear my panicked phone calls. I was shaking the hour drive to the airport. We get to check-in and I explained what happened and burst into tears cause I was so stressed about it. The rep makes a few phone calls and books me our original rates--she spent about 30 minutes getting us sorted out. I was eternally grateful and wrote up the longest 'thank you' on their feedback form.

So you are at 4/24 and your DH is at 3/24 (Chase will only allow you a new card if you have less than 5 new cards in a 24 month period-AU counts but Business cards don't). What is the total credit Chase has extended to you as a % of your annual income? I think recommendations are to stay 50%ish under the annual income you report to them. I am sure @SouthFayetteFan will be through soon to give you an excellent breakdown on your next moves.

:offtopic: But if @SouthFayetteFan or @CandyCane31 have any tips on a short term rental in the city starting in 2 weeks, I am all ears!! My DD starts with AmeriCorps and is still looking. It doesn't help that they do not know yet where they will be working. She is in contact with a couple of Pitt students, but hasn't gotten anything lined up yet. Her friend did it last year and stayed in Duquesne dorm, but it got pricey with food because she had to eat out every meal.

On topic - My friend got denied the Freedom, also because of BK. Her credit score was actually not bad, and I looked up range of scores that would be acceptable and hers was in that range. And her income was great because she had gotten remarried, but it was a no from Chase.

Welcome! Wow - you've done some homework :) You definitely speak the lingo well.

Sounds like you're aware of the 5/24 rule with Chase since you're listing cards in the last 24 months. Luckily you are at 4/24 since the SW Biz doesn't count! AND your SW Plus will "come off" the 24 month list in July so you have some slots available!

The CIP is a GREAT card!! The signup bonus on that is worth over $1,000 in travel and even more if you later pair it with a Chase CSR card. A few thoughts there:
1) Do you have a Chase branch nearby? IF So, would you feel comfortable applying in person? You may be able to score a 100,000 point offer that way.
2) If not...no big deal, then I'd recommend you apply online for the 80,000 point offer. We have a private group on reddit where you could even support another DISer by clicking on their link. If you want added just PM me :)
3) When you go to apply make sure you use your FIRST NAME and LAST NAME as the business name...don't try to get cute. And then use your SSN as the Business EIN.

If you get a CIP you'll STILL be at 4/24 since it doesn't count against the "5". And then come July you'll be 3/24 and can get even more cards (I know I sound crazy, haha!)

As far as getting your husband involved - that's a great strategy too. If you alternate applications you can refer each other (hello more points!) and you look less "risky" to CC companies since you are each applying at a slower pace. CC companies will only analyze you separately, they don't look at a married couple as a join unit :) I would take him off as an AU on any cards you got in the past year or so. Do you know how many cards he has gotten himself in the past 24 months?

And it's stories like this that make me LUV southwest (pun intended)!

I'm not aware of anything short term. It's odd but when you live in a city you never think about stuff like this haha... Plus this city is laid out so weird that knowing where they will be working would really affect any recommendation. With all the bridges and tunnels it'll certainly help for her to stay near where she'll be working.

Thanks...yes I knew from reading here about the chase 5/24; rule just wasn’t sure how the business card fit in.....and now know not to add my husband as an AU or for him to add me....
As far as % of income at 50%, with the business card included..so I’m thinking it would be smart to reduce some lines

Yes I would reduce your combined CLs down to about 30% to give space for approval :)

The CIP is a great card. If you are approaching 50% of your income with Chase you may want to lower some limits, but some people get way more than 50% of their income extended to them. It’s really your call. Do you have any Chase branches near you? Since you have a real business you can go into a branch and see if they have the CIP 100k offer available to you.

I’d do the CIP and then refer you DH to the CIP assuming he isn’t at 5/24.

Yes, not knowing where she will be working makes it extremely tough. It looks like Oakland is pretty central to most of the sites, and I think fairly safe since the campuses are there. Most of the sites are within the rivers but there is a few on the other side, so hoping will not have to worry about the bridges or tunnels.
