I haven't been here in a while but now I really need some help....
I just got a phone call telling me that my reservation at ther Carib will have to be moved to another hotel because they will be working on it Thanksgiving week.... I booked this b*(&*&( thing 2 years ago and now they wanted me to just pick between the two Port Orleans? and the Coronado? at the drop of the hat.... I have no idea. I researched my first choice for like 3 months. Now I don't know what to do. I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We will mostly be going to the Magic Kingdom and MGM.... Obviously I want to be waiting for and sitting on a bus a short a time a possible, plus I want Resort that the whole family would like if we stayed at the Resort for a day or two......

Please can someone help me, I know everyday I wait my choices will be fewer and fewer...

thanks so much. I am totally aggrivated.

Yes, this rehab has been known to us for about a month now. They are rehabbing their restaurant. Anyway, you need not be aggravated, your choices are wonderful either way you slice it. I personally have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside for the last 4 years and LOVED it. The kids would love their main pool and slide (and Mom and Dad would too!) and the food court is the best on site. If you choose this resort though, you want to request to me near the main bldg. and food court or else you'd have very long walks. I suggest in the Alligator Bayou section to request bldgs 14 or 15. Others will come along and request the mansion section rooms. You can't go wrong at this resort, a beautiful place to stay. :D

theirish68,
I too was in the same boat I finally decided on CBR after 4 months of research and planning and they go and close it on me! Well I moaned and cried for awhile and they realized what a great opp. this was. We were offered AKL for only $10 more a night than what I was paying for CBR. knowing I would never get to stay at AKL otherwise I jumped at it! I have never stayed at PO or CS but hear they are both wonderful. With Po I think there is more for kids to do and there's the boat to downtown Disney. At CS I believe it is more a relaxing place where there is a lot for kids to do there as well I believe it's nicer for the parents too! Good Luck and let us know

Take a breath. I am sure you will get some great feedback from some very knowledgeable members. As for transportation for the most part it is good no matter what resort you are at.

You might want to take the resort tours at www.disneyzone.actusa.net. I have found them very helpful.
All three resorts are wonderful so it comes down to personal choice.

Coronada: Theming is mexican, large resort, geared toward conventions. beautiful mayan pyramid main pool. Casitas and Cabanas are the closest to the main bldg. Several quiet pools located throughout the resort. Foodcourt with alot of variety.

POFQ: Nice small resort, New Orleans theme, No sit down restaurant, nice small food court, boat to DD, One bus stop for resort w/connections at POR. Suggest bldgs 4, 5, or 6. Cute dragon pool your kids will love
Short walk to POR.

POR: Bayou & Southern Mansion theme, large resort, nice main pool w/several quiet pools, great foodcourt, lounge with wonderful entertainer, sit down restaurant for B & D, boat to DD w/connections to POFQ, three resort bus stops, Suggest Oak Manor or Parterre Place.

You will not loose on any resort. But I would choose POFQ because of the resort size and the either of the other two as a second.
As for transportation take into consideration a couple things. Thanksgiving is a busy weekend there will be lines and wait times for everything. Most of us are not used to public trans and are really excited about getting to the park, then feel like we are wasting our time waiting. WDW will use additional buses for the wknd. Enjoy the surroundings, people watch or read your broshure/guidebook. Most importantly be flexible and dont overplan. Remember this is a vacation!
Have fun!!!

I know I am probably over reacting but I am a control freak.... So I will settle down soon.

milmore104,
WHat is the AKL and who did you talk to for the upgrade?

I supposedly have the head of reservations calling me back, when I'm not sure.

thanks for the help, I have been there twice in my life but the last time was 8 years ago and this is my kids first trip, so i wanted everything to be perfect...

AKL is the Animal Kigdom Lodge. We were tipped off about the Carr. Beach closing over a month ago. We were told that someone would contact us (like in your case) to switch us to another moderate or we could upgrade to AKL for $10 more a night for a stand. room or $20 more for a savan.view. Or you could upgrade to the POly for $20 more a night. Most people when they heard this called the reservations and asked to speak to the "special Carr. Beach relocation team"! I called to switch because I am surprising my husband w/ this trip and didn't want him getting the call. Anyway I new what people where being offered and I asked for the AKL upgrade Savan. View! I was given it with no hesitation. I don't know when your dates are or if the upgrades are booked but if you are interested in one I would call back and tell them your interested in and upgrade and see what they offer you. I hope this helps and let me know how it goes.
Oh and welcome back to the DIS!!!!

If you go with another moderate, I would choose PO-FQ. It is a very small resort. With two young kids you will never have to walk far for anything-especially if you are in building 2 or Building 5. The bus stop is right there and the food court is right by the pool. It is one of our favorite resorts. With the other moderates, you take the chance of being far if you don't get a building close to the food court.

We were very disappointed to hear that the Caribbean was closing, too. We had chosen that resort based on the surrounding beaches, etc. We didn't feel that any of the other moderates would meet our expectations. At first we were only offered other moderates, as you have been, but after telling them we weren't interested in the other moderates they put me on hold. She came back 5 minutes later & offered us Animal Kingdom Lodge for $10 more a night, Fort Wilderness Cabins, or Polynesian Resort for $20 more a night. We were ecstatic!!! :Pinkbounc

We chose the Polynesian because we believe the atmosphere will be the most similar to Caribbean Beach. I also see it as a once in a lifetime opportunity to stay there for such a great deal. Hope this helps you! :)

I can understand where you are coming from, but Please don't do yourself or your family the disservice of expecting everything to be perfect.... increased expectations lead to disappointment. Just go and take things as they come... you will experience much more magic that way. Disney is a company, just like any other... unfortunately sometimes it tends to behave like any other company, and that is when people get disappointed. So many people put Disney on a pedistal, with overinflated ideals... bottom line, is Disney does try to meet that goal, but sometimes it just can't.

You have been given excellent choices of alternate accomodations. All in all, the Disney moderate resorts are equal, they just have different theming. You will enjoy any one that you stay in, as long as you don't dwell on the fact that you "really wanted CBR".

Think positively, don't try to control everything, and you will have a great time!

We were actually disappointed when we stayed at CBR because we stayed at FQ the year before and LOVED IT!!!! Go with the French Quarter and you won't have any regrets - Trust me!!:p

We were booked to stay at the PRFQ, but in June we received a call that it would be closed during our trip. They offered us other moderate resorts. We did not want to stay at a different moderate resort. We talked to the manager on duty and asked for other choices. She told us we could stay at the AKL for $120 a night. That was $1 more than we wre paying at the POFQ. It was a standard view, but a deluxe hotel. We took the deal. My husband asked what it would be to upgrade to savannah view. After talking to one CM who said no, I called again and the nice CM said we could upgrade to savannah view for $139 a night, These room usually go fo $300 a night.

If you are very nice and ask questions about deluxe hotel choices they may give you more. They are moving you, you did not ask to be moved. They need you. They also offered us the poly.

hopes this helps:smooth:

I was caught so off guard that I didn't even think to ask what number to call and such.... can someone pass it on? I know that you don't call the Resort itself but actually a centralized number....

French Quarter is going to be closed????? When and for how long? My friends are scheduled to stay there when we go in a few weeks.

i LOVE Dixie Landings -- which is now called PORT ORLEANS (for politcially correct reasons)

But ONLY If you get to stay in the "ALLIGATOR BAYOU Riverside section". DON"T stay in the Port ORleans 'french quarter' and DON"T stay in the "mansions" across the river -- too far from everything!!!!

Also, ask for BUILDING 14 or one CLOSE TO BOATWRIGHTS HALL. Trust me on this one!

I think you'll love it just as much if not MORE than carribbean beach resort!!!

I wish I could stay at Dixie Landings (aka; Port Orleans Riverside) but we are too broke this year and have to go over to All Star Movies

PO is very nice but I think that there were some folks who got to upgrade to a monorail deluxe resort for about $40 more a night. The older monorail resorts have been well maintained and the rooms are larger. If you want the Island feeling I would ask what they can do for you at the Poly. Be nice and you may get a great rate. I hope you have a wonderful vacation. Enjoy your children they are what really make everything so magical.

It isn' going to be closed. They thought that the work they did this summer wouldd take longer than it did, so they moved a lot of people.

sorry about the confusion

Just to let you know as you make your choice...CS has a conference of college student leaders being held there from Nov. 22 - 25. Don't know when you plan to go on T-day week, but this might make a difference...'specially in the evening when their time is free and lots will hang out by the pool.

During thanksgiving week there may not be any rooms at the polly or animal kingdom lodge to offer. They may be booked up pretty well that week. However, it shouldn't hurt at all to call CRO and ask to speek to the carribean relocation person, and very nicely and politely explain that you know that other people were offered the polly or AKL and ask if there are any other offers available to you. There may not be, and then you will have another moderate to stay at (I think I'd probably go with french quarter if there is a thing at CSR). But it couldn't hurt. If you think of any up sell as a gravy that may not be there that week it can't hurt to ask -
