One of our clients was involved in this accident and is in critical condition.

We traveled this road often on our Easter trip and could never get over 40 mph most times. What's wrong with people?

High Speed Crash On SR-528 Kills 2, injures 6

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Five high school students and their chaperone were hurt in a high speed crash on SR-528.

State troopers said a yellow Mustang crossed the highway at well over 100-miles-per-hour. The Mustang hit a white Buick, killing the driver, Timothy Brothers.

The Mustang then struck a van filled with kids on a senior trip from Maryland.

"He came up so quick on us that he passed us in the median, lost a little bit of control and came back over and kept going," said Roy Granados, an eyewitness.

The driver of the Mustang died in the crash as well. The five kids in the van were expected to be okay. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

It depends where on the Bee Line (or Beach Line as it is now called :sad2: but for me will always be called the Bee Line) If you are on the Bee Line here in Orange county, the biggest thing you have to watch for is the fool that comes to a dead stop in the middle of the road because they are trying to read a map or find a coin for the upcoming toll.
The accident to which you are referring happened out in Volusia County where there are more open stretches of road and the traffic is able to speed easier. Most of 528 out near the airport is 55 mph and you are barely able to do that because of the heavy traffic.

528 does not go into Volusia County. It actually happened near the Orange County/Brevard County border. And yes people do drive that fast on there sometimes. Heck we get passed as if we are standing still sometimes and DH and I both drive a bit over the speed limit.

So sad that another driver was killed because of this *******. :sad2:

Driver of speeding Mustang identified

FLORIDA TODAY

Two Brevard County men died Tuesday night in a horrific crash on the Beachline Expressway after a Mustang, estimated to be traveling more than 100 mph lost control, crossed the grass median and slammed into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The westbound Mustang collided with a white Buick headed east on State Road 528, the Beachline, and then with a black minivan.

The Mustang driver, who was identified today as Nicholas Barry, 20, of Cocoa Beach, and Buick driver Timothy Brothers, 50, of Satellite Beach were killed.

The accident happened about 5:45 p.m., about two miles east of State Road 520.

After hitting the Buick and knocking it into the trees along the south shoulder, the Mustang struck an eastbound Dodge minivan, Trooper Kim Miller said, injuring driver Veronica Coleman, 51, and five students, all from Maryland, who are in Florida on a senior trip.

The students were: Aaron Harten, 18, Jason Coleman, 17, Megan Matthews, 18, Christine Singh, 17, and Kyle Schwarm, 17.

Coleman was taken to the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne in a critical condition, and the students, all listed in serious condition, were taken to different area hospitals.

Eastbound traffic was rerouted to State Road 520 as troopers handled the accident. Westbound motorists were initially told to turn around and head East, but one lane reopened about an hour after the accident. Still, westbound traffic was backed up for miles.

All lanes in both directions were opened before 10 p.m.

The accident left the Mustang "unrecognizable," Miller said. "It was squished. Barely an inch separated the passenger's side door from the driver's side door."

The car's engine separated from the body and landed more than 150 feet away.

She said FHP dispatchers fielded numerous calls from drivers on State Road 528 about a yellow Mustang witnesses described as traveling over 100 mph.

"We were told that he (the Mustang's driver) was running people off the road and driving on the shoulder," Miller said.

By the time troopers responded, the accident had happened.

"We need people to realize that speed kills," Miller said. "Some people treat roads like race tracks. This should be a wake-up call for those who speed."

So, I take it that they weren't really anywhere near Disney? I had heard they were on some type Orlando/Disney school trip and assumed that it occured closer to the Disney area where it was congested.

No--it was closer to the coast--I figured that because it was a school trip maybe they were headed to KSC. I saw it on the news yesterday morning. How tragic. The news said the Mustang was probably going around 120 mph There's just no reason, no excuse. It's very sad. I hope the critically injured driver is OK.

They showed photos of the scene on the news, the Mustang was simply disintegrated. There wasn't a single piece larger than a foot square left. It also looked like the drivers side of the van had been sheared off, although that could have been EMS cutting them out of the minivan.

Nope they weren't near Disney. The kids must have been on their way to the beach (or to KSC).

The client of ours, listed in the article, is Veronica Coleman. From what I heard here, every bone in her face was broken. Fortunately, no internal injuries.

I think it's going to be a long journey for her.:sad2:
