send me an e-mail offering a trade and then when I contact them say "sorry. I already traded that pin".

This has happened to me three times in the last two months.

If you're going to offer a pin, please offer it to one person at a time. Sending out multiple offers in the hopes you'll get a hit is really inconsiderate.

If you're using pinpics, you don't get to select how many people you make an offer to. If you only opt to trade one pin for that particular pin, you still might have your offer go to more than one person. At that point, the person asking probably then makes a trade with whomever responds first.

I can't really speak for anyone else, but I personally have just gotten into using the pinpics site, where you check off what you can offer and then they automatically send e-mails to people who have it. I didn't realize until recently that there is a way to look at who they have sent messages to, and delete ones you don't want to send.

But, what if twenty people have the pin you are looking for and are looking for the pin you have? Would you want someone to go one by one down the list until they get an answer? I know that I have sent out requests in the past through pinpics and have not even gotten an answer from half of the people that were e-mailed.

Then, if you say you would be willing to offer two alternative pins, the site picks even more names. I don't really know a great way of handling trades using that site without waiting forever to make a trade happen. Any suggestions are welcome though!!

BTW...if you're not talking about pinpics requests, then disregard the above!

Been on both the giving and receiving end of this one. I just activated TA this month and must say I have been inundated both ways.

I was never aware how many people receive the offer when you send it out. I try to answer everyone - either thanks or sorry but I do understand now just how many people are getting my requests.

Now this was assuming you were talking about TA pinpics. If that is not the case I really would be just a little PO'd. If it is a personnal offer the person should wait a for an answer(in a reasonable time frame) before offering it out again.

With the Pinpics TA requests, I know I sometimes have a trade offer go to one person. One time I know four went out. SO you do just never know. And out of that four, I would probably only hear from one anyway.
I know what I am bad about is making a trade and not going in and remove it from my wants. I try to remember, but often don't.

You can go into your pending offers and edit them. I delete the offers that are selected for the folks who never respond. And I make sure that the offers seem fair. I've gotten several messages like the poster of this thread. And after I respond, which is usually first thing in the morning, I always get this message saying "thanks for the offer, but i've traded that pin already...". OK, the offer went out at 4:00 AM, it's now 7:00 AM and you've traded the pin within those 3 hours. I'm always baffeled, because they always make it sound like I'm the one who made the offer. Well the TA isn't perfect, it's only as good as the people who use it. At least we have some tool to find our pin mates. I truly don't think people will change. The same ones will still not send out "no thanks" and we'll continue to get folks who want the LE pins for rack pins that are still available. I find I have to send out about 15 responses to even get a no thankyou sometimes. I figured the ones who don't respond are the ones missing out. I give every offer serious consideration and always respond back.

I can't quite figure out how to tell who is replying and who isn't, because people reply through their e-mail which is different than their pinpics name. Is there something I can do to match up e-mail addresses with pinpics names?

As far as having already traded--it's VERY possible. Because I have had this happen a few different ways, and just recently.
First scenerio:
I have a trade offer. We make an agreement. THAT day I go into Pinpics and remove the pin I am trading from my trade list.
HOWEVER, you have set up the TA request for that pin I just removed. I still get your trade request the next day.
I have had this happen just recently.
I have also initiated a trade request and that same request has gone out to 4 - 5 people. One replies yes right away and the deed is done.
