how can you get grime/grease off of coins?

I cleaned out the garage today and found a small bucket of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. I soaked them all in hot water and let them dry.

I brought the bucket to the bank and they said the coins were too grimy and sticky for the machine.

How can I clean/soak them? Vinegar?

I found the best cleaner at the Dollar store called Geased Lightning....$3.00 At Family Dollar I bet it would work. It's a Multipurpose cleaner & degreaser.

I have put coins in Coca Cola before and it works sometimes.
