Not sure if either of these would interest a 3 year old? I tend to think not but anyone have any experience with this?

I've been to HDDR with my 3 and 4 year old nieces and they LOVED it!! Both of them. It is a very entertaining show.

My son was 3 almost 4 when we went to Spirit of Aloha the first time. He had a great time. He was also chosen to dance with other children. It was a fantastic night and I love the pictures we have from that night. Can't wait to bring our two little girls there. :goodvibes

I'll chime in here with another vote for HDDR! Little kids really seem to get into the fun of the music and skits. And who doesn't like chicken and ribs?

Not sure what time of year you are going. Be aware that the Luau will cancel dinner shows if the temps dip below 50 degrees. The show is in an open air venue.

Most 3 year olds would enjoy either, so I suggest picking the one you think the older members of your party would prefer and go with that. We have seen both multiple times, and while we are glad we've SoA, we don't need to rush back; we make HDDR a must-do every trip!

The PP's point about cancellations of the SoA is a good one to keep in mind.

Wow, could be a tough call. Have done both and enjoyed both. For a 3 year old I would give a slight edge to HDDR because of the food selection.

That being said, flip a coin and you won't regret whichever way it comes up.

I have done both. Both are fine for a 3 year old and all family members. I definitely rate HDDR higher than SOA. I would go back to HDDR but not to SOA. The food is better at HDDR and the show is much funnier and involves you more.

My family did the HDDR with my friend and her children. Her youngest child is a somewhat quiet child who stays pretty close to her momma. She was startled a few times, and cried. I think you just need to take into consideration of your child's temprement. It was loud, and me and my kids LOVED HDDR. Her kids, not so much.

We took my 3 year old to HDDR last summer and he enjoyed it for the most part. By the end, he was a little restless, but he's 3. I did some research before picking a seating level and chose to sit in the balcony so he could see better, which was a good idea. He was able to stand up and move around a bit, which made him happier. He liked the food and LOVED the strawberry shortcake. We also made a night of it at Fort Wilderness and after going to the early HDDR, went to the Campfire Singalong, which we really enjoyed. Just know getting anywhere in Fort Wilderness besides HDDR (it's near the boat dock...boats are best way to get there from a MK resort) can be a royal pain on their internal bus system.

Hope that helps!

We went to the Luau when they had two different luaus - one with Mickey and one without (like now). My son was four and he fell asleep before we even got our food. Both of my nieces also were not that interested in the luau. I would have saved the money we spent on it by not going if I had more information on it back then.

HDD is lots of fun, lots of noise, happy sounds all around. But I didn't care much for the food. And our strawberry shortcake was awful -just a square of white cake with a tiny spoonful of strawberry topping and a little dollop of non-dairy whipped cream. The show is lots of fun.
