Marvel~ We farm about 1000 acres right now between ours and Ron's parents. It is alot but we are small in comparison to farmers around us. Some days I wonder why we do this but dh loves it so I cannot complain. You can make money but it is very risky. There have been many years we have taken large losses. The cost to farm between input costs and equipment is crazy. A combine can cost an easy $200,000 plus. So when you are working with those type of costs it is hard to make large profits. He also works full time on top of it in the seed business so he is in charge of their harvest also. He is in much need of this upcoming vacation.

1000!!!!!!! holy krinkles....Do you have any animals?
I would love to see some pics of the land if you ever get a chance...

Im sorry about wishing for snow :rotfl:

but this is NY city we just dont get the good snow...its always to the north and west of us.

I can only remember two times where we had to stay home from snow
...one was around 1977 and one was 1996 or something like that.

And chan that 5 acres of gold lawn sounds great Im picturing the wheat and corn around...it sounds really nice... I think I was a country boy in a previous life :)

Yeah...but when you live out in BFE there is no Starbucks, Walmart, fast food, pizza delivery for miles! Somedays I wish for city living!

Deb~ Get that tree out and get to work. You can enjoy it soo much longer.

Got my final confirmation today. I am all payed off! WOOHOO! I really cannot believe I am spending Christmas at the GF.

Hi to everyone else!!

It does sound tempting ;). I just keep thinking of how many bins I have in the basement that are filled with Christmas decorations that I really do like to enjoy it for as long as it takes to put out :santa:. And WTG on paying the trip off :cool1: :cool1:. That really makes it's official :thumbsup2. I would LOVE to spend Christmas at the GF :). I told DH about all you gals buying the trees for your room and he said "They'll put a Christmas tree in your room??" And I was like...."Uhhh....YEAH. The tree is about $400 and alot of people order them". He actually thought it was a good idea so I guess if we ever go to Disney over Christmas he's all for a tree ;). Of course I would get one whether he was ok with it or not....but it is nice to know he's on board :rotfl: :rotfl:.

THanks, guys...I am being a whiner because I am tired and crabby. I woke up at 3:57...and 4:32...and then at 5:56...I was so worried about getting that thing booked. I thought I had it in the bag! I put the number in the phone last night so I'd just have one button to push.....:rotfl: I am NOT an early bird so this is a tough pill to swallow...that I got up only to feel ripped off!!! :rotfl:OK...so today was the practice round....NOW i know what I am up against...and it is ugly.:rotfl2:

I just know you'll get it reserved tomorrow :thumbsup2. I was telling DH about the Grand 1 and he said that sounds awesome. It would be neat to try :goodvibes.

Maxie, keep that spring countdown going. It is getting ugly and brown and cold now here!! It was just a few days ago it was in the 70s and the leaves were beautiful golden and orange!!!

I hear ya, Chan.....the weather has been beautiful and now it's just yucky :sad2:. Maxie's spring count down is what's keeping me going :rotfl2:.

Deb, You all are getting in the Christmas mood?!?!?!?! OMG....I guess it's inevitable now that it's in all the stores. I am not ready yet...it's brown here. I bet it's ugly and brown there, too! And to think I used to LOVE winter!!!:rotfl:

I'm not getting into the Christmas mood by choice . I have just come to the fact that Christmas is around the corner whether or I like it or not.....so I might as well suck it up and surrender to the fact that it's time to think about it because December 25th will be here whether I'm ready or not :rotfl:. It is ugly here too......really ugly :headache:.

Channing

SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW..i want a blizzard that keeps me in my home for AT LEAST 3 days. GO Mother Nature, GO!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Deb :upsidedow

No animals now. (2 dogs...no cats. For some reason those things do not last very long around here.) Ron's dad used to have horses, mules and pigs but we have gotten rid of all of that. Once the girls get into 4-H we will probably get a few pigs for them.

If I could ever sit here long enough and figure out how to post photos I will get you a few. I am going to make that goal for this weekend. It cannot be that hard.

If you do I'll show you some NY pictures
you can shoose from ...uhhh...the Long Island Expressway....or how about a bridge leading to the Bronx? Actually forget that we aren't allowed to talkes pics of the bridges anymore..they have signs up saying so...
My favorite pizza place then?

I am staring at my Christmas tree box right now and with today's weather it is SO tempting to pull it all out!! But DH isn't in the mood for the project.

Besides, we are going to see Madagascar later today, so I would never get it done... I might do it on Friday while he is at work and DS is at school though :rolleyes1

My brother just emailed me about the 7 for 4 deal... they were planning a trip to Costa Rica next year, but might do a week at the YC instead!! Since I am such an enabler, I told him that Costa Rica wasn't going anywhere, but this deal wouldn't last! :rotfl:

Chan- that STINKS about the Grand 1!!!!!!!! What are the freaking odds that someone wanted it the same night!!!! I swear, when we were there last August, we never even saw it leave the dock once in 10 days!!

V- hooray for the end of harvest!! My neighbor heads home to Iowa each weekend to help his family with the harvest. They have one of those mega farms too. They harvest all day and night :sad2: We went to Lake Geneva for dinner last weekend and coming back you could see all the headlights in the fields with the farmers still out there.

Hi to everyone else!!
Later Taters!

have a good day....i have had about 5 cups of coffee......it's not going to be good here....I feel CRABBY. I'll get over it.......:rotfl: I have one more chance tomorrow to RACE for that yacht....but I feel the same way....what are the freaking chances that someboyd wanted it for the same cold blustery night in Feb?!?!:confused3 :headache:

Chan

Channing I would be fuming too!

We live in the coutry too. Some days I enjoy the quiet. Other times, like when I need just a little something for a recipe I am making but don't want to drive the 20 miles to the nearest store, it drives me insane. No fast food at all, so I am making dinner every night no matter what unless we go out. No one would even think about delivering here!

Congrats to everyone who gets to take advantage of the deal! I would really like for us to go in early May and then early Dec, ideally, but there is no way I can do 7 nights on either of those trips after doing 12 nights for our Honeymoon. My work wouldn't allow that (I don't think!). I want to go in May as I have heard the weather is great and we always go in the cold, and would like to do Dec again if possible because I just love the christmas decorations.

Marvel, you really can'ty take pics of bridges? That's crazy!

Have a great day everyone!

Hey Marvel- We can make you a country boy real quick but I must warn you of a few things first.

Country Livin Pros and Cons (whichever way you take it)

Population: 650
School Population High School: 68
Number of children in 2nd grade: 9

3 churches
1 post office
1 bar
1 bank

NO GAS STATION!

Closest mall: 45 minutes

Most people are related to eachother. Some who are related are also then married. (No Joke!)

If you go to the bar on Saturday night...people talk about you.
If you DO not go to church on Sunday...people talk about you.
If you go to the bar on Sat night and then not to church on Sunday...people really talk about you.:rotfl:

The bank: (love this place)
Overdraft protection- there is none. You get a nice little phone call from the bank lady asking you nicely to please bring in some money whenever you get a chance. No charge!

Counter checks: They are at the bar. If you need cash just ask for a check and sign your name.

Loans: You just walk in and ask for money and they give you a slip to sign and WALA! You have cash!

Con of this place is everyone knows HOW and WHEN you spend your money. Exactly why I just put our vacation on the Disney Visa.

Bank hours 9-3

Post office: Mails goes out everyday at 3:00 p.m. (totally stinks) but our postmaster is awesome. She puts all your stamps on your mail for you and also packages things if you bring them in.

School holiday: Deer Hunting season. Yep- we get days off for this. We also still pray before lunch and celebrate the National Day of Prayer.

Local driving age: Whenever you are big enough to get up in a tractor...you can drive!

Politics: 95% Republican...not many Obama signs in this neck of the woods. We are one of maybe 20 Democratic families.

I think that is about it! I do love it but sometimes wonder why in the heck I live here when I could live anywhere in the world!!

Marvel, you really can'ty take pics of bridges? That's crazy!

Have a great day everyone!

Yeah, that is true. As you approach any of the bridges there are signs for no photography or video cameras. Now of course you do see people take pictures here and there but the signs are there. I do remember reading a report a few years ago of someone being taken in for questioning because he was videotaping the major bridges and maybe some other landmarks.

In fact i pass the entrance to the Throgs Neck Bridge (connects Queens & the Bronx) on my way home and there has been a police car stationed there continuously for years now.

OMG! im now in love with the country!! the gossip people are a 'con' but we have those at our church too.
But everything else? I love it!!
No gas station? who cares..teach me to ride a horse.

I swear i am not making fun or joking here... I want to move.

My dad was a nyc cop for years until he retired, he moved to florida which was he said was a bit slower pace but now he is in North Carolina and loves the very slow pace and small town and knowing everyone.

Chan, i think maybe that you are right...myabe another IPO office has no problem booking it.

Marvel...I have a real sinking suspicion that's what happened...:sad2:

OH!! I want to live in NC, too!!! That's where "Mayberry" is!!! I want a town like that.:)

Vanessa
....how you describe country living is how Woodstock was when I grew up there....30+ years ago...LOL...now I live about 15 minutes away....BUT now tons of people from Chicago have moved out here.....and it's awfully sad how built up it's become. I have such wonderful memories of growing up out there.... When it would snow it was like fairlyland...we'd cross country ski thru the fields in the moonlight...all you'd hear was the swish of the skis.....We'd snowmobile and pull peeps on a toboggan attached...(Probably a big safety nono..LOL...but we are the same ones that would pile tons of friends in the back of the pick up trucks and drive to town to go to A & W):rotfl: That was all there was!!!!! The fields would flood and freeze over and we'd ice skate from sun up til sundown.... I love country living!!! We wanted a bit more "action" so moved here...but we have 2 acres and it's pretty rural but with town near. Thank God for internet and online shopping though!!

Chan:)

Thanks, Chan
Im on visitmayberry.com
a whole other world....
im looking up prices of houses ..i mean farms...:)

EDIT... they have a drive in too!!!!

I live in NC. The Mayberry towns are slowly going away because everyone realizes what a great state this is. I've lived here all of my life and it has changed. I live about 25 minutes outside of Raleigh on a 100 farm. Our road is a combination of 3 families. When I got married, my parents said "Which tobacco field would you like to build on"? We don't harvest tobacco anymore, but I remember learning how to drive on the tractor. Our town has a McDonalds, a Food Lion (grocery store), a gas station and a few local shops - that's it. The mountains are beautiful - Mt. Airy (Mayberry to you) still holds Mayberry events every fall. The weather is beautiful (sunny and 68 right now) - although we hardly ever get any snow - which we would love at least once in the season. Good luck with your search, there is still a lot of hidden gems in NC. -Lisa

Chan - I hate that you had trouble getting the Grand 1!!! I don't get why they can't get their stories straight!?!

Thanks for getting up at the crack of dawn to try and get it!! :worship:

Lisa- Now that sounds like a good place to live!!

By the way- let me kow how the VIP guide goes. I did get on for three of the days but unsure if I will use them all three days. Your trip is coming soon! Have fun!:santa:

Hey Marvel- RU still out there?? I did get the VIP parade viewing in an alternative area. Do you know where this is at? They said it is not the main area since it was already booked.

We are in St. Louis for my daughters first ever cheer competition. She is in the "tiny" division and they are the only squad here in her division. Its good practice and they will win a trophy no matter LOL!!

Okay I have an RPC question...what floor are the snackies on - I though it was the 4th....does anyone know how many castle views there are available (room wise)??

I will definitely tell you, only 4 more weeks. :yay: I'm glad that your harvest is almost done - wow, that sounds like a lot of work.
