We normally drive down but this time my husband wants to fly. My dd (5) gets car sick and gets stomach aches when she sits for long periods of time. He also hates how long it takes to get there by car (we are in NJ) On the bright side it will give us more Disney time : )

So I haven't flown in about 11 years and I have never flown with my kids. So it will be their first flight in August (6 and 10 when we go).

So what do I need to know? Any tips? Did I mention I hate to fly???

I'm concerned my car sick daughter will also get plane sick? Is there a chance? She only gets car sick when we travel in the morning for some reason. Should I book a later flight?

I tend to get panic attacks in the car because I get worried she will be sick (not sure why I let this bother me). I'm worried I will have a panic attack on the plane, what can I do to prevent or stop?

Any advice would be great: )

Relax! Try not to worry so much. Your dd probably won't get sick in the plane. Not to mention that she can get up and move around on the plane. Try not to let your dd see how nervous about flying you are.....that will only stress her.
As far as any tips, I'm not sure what you're looking for. Any specific questions?

I have been flying since I was 2 and am prone to getting motion sickness. (It diminished after I started driving but if I'm in the passenger seat I can still get a little queasy.) Anyway, my parents always gave me Dramamine before the flight and it helped.

First thing to remember is that kids will sense if their parents have fear or are nervous.

Relax, be prepared, and be calm.

All will work out just fine. I love to fly and love airports. My kids have taken tons of flights and they too love to fly and travel.

Duds

We did take them to the airport when my husband went away for work just to increase their comfort level. My dumb husband told them I hate to fly! Ugh! Although I don't like it I have flown numerous times and was first on a plane when I was 4. I'm afraid of hights mostly so I hate taking off and love landing! Last time I flew was Las Vegas so this will be a much shorter flight : )

Since its been so long since I have flown I was just wondering if their any tips for taking my kids for the first time. My oldest seems to be the most nervous (10) I know there are so many limits now on what and how much you can bring with you on board. I want to be able to bring snacks and things to keep them occupied. Do the airline sites lists specifics on what you can bring and not bring? I know the liquid rule but I wasn't sure about dry snacks.

Also do a lot of kids have problems with their ears? I remember my Mom telling me on my first flight I had issues with my ears.

Will Benadryl or Dramamine relax me?? : )

Forgot to add, it's unlikely your daughter will get motion sickness on the flight. I am prone to this and have never had any issues on a jet, even in turbulence.

Have her take 2 ginger capsules about an hour before the flight. That will help settle her tummy. YOu can get ginger capsules at WalMart in the vitamin section.
Or have her eat either ginger snap cookies or a York peppermint patty just before the flight.
I NEVER fly without ginger caps.

I would also pack a small garbage bag and a change of clothes and a wash clothe in your carry on for her in case she does get sick. Then you can put the icky clothes in the garbage bag.

Remember when going though security EVERYTHING has to come out of your pockets and its easier to put everything loose (coins, wallets, keys, belts) in your carry on bag. It just makes it easier to know that you have collected everything at the end of the security belt.

You can bring an dry snack that you would like. We bring breakfast bars, cookies, trail mix, chips. not a problem.

Just to throw this out there:

The TSA website now has a section devoted to kids, showing them what they need to do at the airport. http://www.tsa.gov/tsa-kids...really a cute addition, using animated puppies.

If you are really fearful of flying, talk to your doctor. Medication can be a good thing. Not all drugs will knock you out or make you loopy.

I haven't flown in many years either, and I have a question. When I check in on my phone, how do I get a boarding pass? I've heard you can use your phone as a boarding pass, but i'll be checking in 5 people on it. Do you go print something out once at the airport? Won't have a printer before departure, and want to check in 24 hours to try to be as close to front boarding as possible. Is this possible, or without a printer will I have to wait to check in at the airport?

If you have a smart phone then can scan your boarding pass from your phone. Saw that done lots of times last month.

Do you know if we will be able to do multiple boarding passes from one phone?

While you can check-in even get boarding pass on phone, you can still go to kiosk at airport and print boarding passes, usually for the whole party at one time. Also if you are going to be checking bags (inside or outside), they can print your boarding passes when you check your bags. Trying to "scan" multiple boarding passes will just hold up the line unnecessarily.

Thank you!
