In 2031, the NFL will NO LONGER be in Missouri.

I’m pretty unhappy about it. The area they’re wanting to put the stadium has way too much going on that happens all at the same times. It’s going to be a nightmare traffic wise between nascar, soccer, baseball, concerts, the American Royal (which ran out of money from STAR bonds and now just sits unfinished), the Renaissance Festival, concerts and now adding Buc-ee’s and the Chiefs. It’s bad enough without those things.

I’m not a football fan so don’t care about that part but that area just isn’t ready for the amount of traffic it will get, it will be a mess.

Wouldn't Indiana taxpayers want their funds used for schools, roads, public safety? Do you really think they are ok with corporate welfare?

One area where California politicians are making he right call. They forced the team owners to fund their own stadiums.
How little you know. Indiana is one of the best run states in the nation. So much so that the legislature passed massive tax cuts last year. They run a tax surplus, unlike Illinois that is so poorly run they are billions of dollars in debt. The land that is being offered was at one time part of the super fund, to clear land that was poisoned by over a hundred years of toxic steel mill dumping. It has been sitting vacant for over 50 years, and of course will need to be tested to see if it could support a 60,000+ stadium. So the Bears would be getting exactly what from Indiana, land that is not currently being used and tax breaks on land that is currently generating no taxes....sounds like a win win for Indiana and the Bears.

Then the Bears can approach the land owners and offer to buy it. The State doesn't need to get involved at all.

I was always curious why the Kansas and Missouri street grids of the KC metro area don’t align. Missouri seems a bit askew while Kansas appears to run close to true East-West and North-South.

I'm okay with the Legends, it was always very likely to be up there.

However, where the Royals is floated around being makes absolutely no sense smack dab in high suburbia in neighborhoods. The only thing they have going for it is the parking garages already built there because Sprint used to be there. Now that would be insanity with traffic. The Legends traffic is in a much better situation though yes the area is quickly filling up with big space things.

I haven't learned the reason why (likely how the areas were settled over time is my guess) but I do know that it's a lot easier to navigate on the KS side than the MO side for the reason you mentioned.

Day to day it is okay but when there are two or more events the traffic is awful. I came through there on the way home not realizing there was an event at the racetrack, graduation at the soccer stadium and a concert at Sandstone. I was so mad by the time I finally got home. 🙃 I forgot about the theme park they keep saying will be there, though I haven't heard about it in a while so not sure if that was cancelled.

I love that you call it Sandstone because that's the only appropriate name :goodvibes :goodvibes

The Mattel theme park if they don't get it opened by 2031 it'd be in violation of the agreement..but who knows what the actual consequences would be. While I think it's a cool idea and would certainly like the addition as competition to Worlds of Fun (sorta competition) I've never truly had high hopes for that. I'm not sure how much visitors they expect to come for that though.

I wouldn't envy having to deal with being up at the Legends when there's multiple events at the same time that's true.

Nah, I agree with the poster. If a sports team leaves your town, bitter fans. I'm sure they'll keep 98% of their fan base but they'll lose some just b/c they moved.
But if you live here then you'd know that the sports team is not nor has it ever been for the city of Kansas City, Missouri. The entire Kansas City metro of more than 3 million people live here and a very good percentage of season ticket holders are from Kansas. That's not even getting into that fact that who owns the stadium is Jackson County of which there are a multitude of cities within that county, Kansas City, MO is the largest but Kansas City, MO also spans 3 counties.

It's a very complicated situation with a lot of pieces to it but they aren't leaving a "town", Kansas City, MO didn't lay claim to the Chiefs as if they were the ones who were the only fans.

I like the funny thing going around right now is that they are moving from 435 highway and I-70 to 435 highway and I-70 because that is what they are doing assuming they are going right to the Legends.

Why on earth are Kansas taxpayers giving a billionaire corporate welfare? I thought the politicians in Kansas are fiscally conservative? I guess not.
STAR Bonds have been controversial since their inception but in fairness to the fiscally conservative comment the present governor is the only reason we have built back up our financial health. The one before the interim one one destroyed it with their decisions (they left to go work with the President during his first term which is why we had an interim governor). The ability however for this to be considered a bi-partisan thing is the most amazing thing out there.

My understanding is that the two scenarios are nothing alike. The Bears want to build a privately funded stadium and complex. What they asked of Crook County were getting the utilities and infrastructure. The Chiefs are having the entire thing built with government money and then handed to them.
This is why people who do not know the situation should not comment. The State owns the land.
I'm assuming this is in Gary somewhere, since they're talking about 20 minutes to Downtown. Where exactly? When I heard about this one of the other places talked about was the ISP site in Michigan City. Already has train service from Chicago, just of I-94 and on the lake.

Yes/No at least in technicality

It's 60% by future sales tax revenue, 40% privately funded with the Hunt family and Chiefs organization being that private funder. They did do an approval at the government level to up the STAR Bond allowance to 70% but the info as of now is 60%.

Also a notation is right now Jackson County residents pay for Truman Sports Complex (which holds both the Chiefs and the Royals) via a 3/8th cent sales tax. The existing stadium in Kansas City, MO is built and maintained in part by the public too through their money. Indeed when the Chiefs didn't get a renewal of that sales tax for renovation money they threatened to leave Arrowhead.

The Raiders moved from Oakland to Las Vegas. Didn't lose many fans at all and gained quite a few.

The Raiders were my first thought. The team was in Oakland, moved to LA, moved back to Oakland and then to Las Vegas. The team still has die hard fans and the team still kinda sucks.

And the fiscal health would be even better if they didn't give the Hunt family one cent. The Hunt family doesn't need the money.

They could eliminate the congestion by charging variable tolls in the area.

So why can't the team make the state an offer to buy it? The team owners are flush with cash. If they want more money they should cut salaries.

I'm pretty happy about it personally. Love the chiefs and The new stadium would be around 10 minutes from me so I may have to get season tickets once they move. Too many fans were saying that they were "Missouri's Team" even though both states had always rooted for them as their home team. (and probably more of KS for a while since MO used to have the Rams too...)

And I am just outside of Wyandotte/Johnson counties so if something goes wrong it hopefully wouldn't affect me as much tax wise.🤣 I get to live outside of the city with some land/privacy and still be near some nice things to do.

I hope they use it for a lot of fun stuff in the offseason too, cirque shows, concerts, etc. that they can't easily do at Sandstone or in the Soccer stadium
