Have You Been to any Triple D Places?

Forget the name of the place, but it was a pizza place in KC with graffiti on the walls & our seat was out of an old junk car. Pizza was great :)

The pit stop in Merrick. Good food

The smoke joint in Brooklyn. Delicious. But we didn't know he went until we saw that he signed the wall

The Eveready Diner (he did the one in Hyde Park, NY. I went to a newer location at Southeast, NY) SO good! They have strawberry butter for pancakes, YUM! Have had steak and cheese panini, salad, burger there. You can't make a wrong choice there!

the local paper ran an article when they filmed at locations near us, and I found it interesting that some of the places the show really expressed an interest in featuring turned the opportunity down flat when they learned that they had to disclose their secret recipes. made me understand why the most popular diner in the area has never been featured (they have a couple of dishes that you can get nowhere else and people wait in line for an hour on a slow day to get so much as a counter seat for breakfast).

We LOVE Anthonino's in St. Louis on The Hill. They do Greek and Italian. The dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) were amazing, and weirdly enough, my youngest son's burger was probably the best i've ever had. Or maybe we were just hungry, lol!!

I don't think it was Triple D, but some Food Network show featured Fiorella's in New Orleans, and we also really loved it. Now, it LOOKS like a dive for sure, but the food was crazy good.

I haven't been to the exact restaurant, but I remember seeing an episode featuring the "Horseshoe" located in Springfield, IL. (with the help of Google it is a place called Charlie Parker's Diner). I remember seeing the episode and thinking wow that is a common local treat.
That is where we went. :)

He's been to quite a few restaurants in our area and we've dined at most them long before he showed up. A couple are on my favorite list.

Duluth Grill - my absolute favorite restaurant, hands-down. Love, love, love their food. Features local grown food, and they grow veggies in containers in the parking lot and they have bee hives on the roof. From the outside it looks like a truck stop (used to be an Embers) but when you walk through the door, any pre-conceived notions you have are thrown out the window - the food is amazing! Garlic Gouda Burger with Onion rings and homemade ketchup... and banana pie for dessert... Or Fish Tacos... Or the salmon burger (the salmon is caught by a member of the church where I work)

Gordy's Hi-Hat - a burger joint in Cloquet, MN that I've been eating at my whole life. Only open from late spring to early fall. Fond memories as a kid of always having to use the bathroom while we dined there so my mom would have to take us down to the basement (you had to go a back entrance just off the kitchen). If we were lucky, Gordy's wife, who worked the grill, would notice us and get us a tot ice cream cone! I had a very predictible bladder when dining there! They have since added on bathrooms so my attempts at free cones have been foiled, but we still go back for the burgers and onion rings!

Italian Village - in our neighborhood in West Duluth, MN.

At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe - also awesome food, focusing on local food. Also in Duluth, MN

Northern Waters Smokehaus - this teeny, tiny place (like a few seats at a counter) that has smoked fish and meat. Delicious sandwiches. In Canal Park in Duluth

Pak Green Corner - an asian fusion restaurant that was also in our neighborhood of West Duluth. Never got to eat there. Wase featured on the show and very shortly after that they sold the building and it was tore down. They started building a credit union there this week.

The show was also to 3 places right across the bridge in Superior, WI. One, the Achor Bar, is a place I'm embarassed to say I've never been to even though I've lived in this area my whole life. It is definitely a hole in the wall dive with awesome burgers, I've heard. I'm thinking a trip over there needs to happen soon.

I've eaten at the Squeeze Inn. It was ok. It's the hamburger with the steamed cheese spread all over. I've actually liked the mushroom burger they have better with their food truck that use to show up at my work.

It's not a place I would go to often but they do have some very tasty food!

I've eaten dozens of times at Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery, Maine, as I grew up in the area. I've also eaten several times at both the Maine Diner in Wells and Becky's Diner in Portland. IMO, the Maine Diner makes the most perfect clam chowder I've ever had! :lovestruc :cloud9:

Rosie's Diner, Rockford MI
Marlow's, Memphis TN
The Old Coffee Cup, New Orleans
Enjoyed them, and would love to try more places that have been featured on the show.

Magnolia Café - Austin TX - Good breakfast, kind of foodie but good
Monument Café - Georgetown,, TX - Yuck, I have no clue what the hype was about

Dish Café - Reno, NV - the signature was granola - it was a total DD&D disappointment
Gold & Silver Inn, Reno, NV - OLD OLD OLD smokey casino diner - Nothing special, we did not linger, could not stand the smoke and I smoke, it was that bad.
Louis Basque Corner, Reno, NV - this was the only place of the three chosen in Reno that made sense - excellent Basque dining
I lived in Reno during Guy's visit, no one I knew could figure out why out of all the great places to eat, he visited the two that he did. Complete disappointment in the choice of eateries

Burger Me - Truckee, CA - Excellent - the Chipotle Mayo is to die for good! Love the food, love the eclectic décor, great place
Putah Creek Café, Winters, CA - Loved it!

Pine State Biscuits, Portland, OR - One word, the "Reggie" OMGosh this place is an all time favorite

  • Voula's Offshore Cafe in Seattle
  • Schooner or Later in Long Beach

At one point we'd decided to make seeking out a DDD place a vacation "tradition" when we visited new cities, but the interest turned out to be short-lived. We actually never even watch the show anymore.

Does anyone know how DDD chooses the restaurants it reviews? Just wondering if they pay Guy to do his thing.

We went to one of the places for DH's birthday because they offer free breakfast (proof of b-day required.) Even at that price we weren't impressed.

Yes. We also have a restaurant that was featured on Restaurant Impossible but I haven't been there.

They don't pay. Many are locally owned small businesses. I think it's kind of nice what he does for hard working folks, but totally get that not everyplace will be a home run.
If you'd like to nominate a restaurant, here's the scoop:

I've been to the Jefferson Diner in Jefferson, NJ. To be honest, I liked it better before they were on DD&D. It's still a pretty decent diner.
I've also visited the Tick Tock Diner in Clifton, NJ, but not since it was featured.

We've been to Brandy's and Salsa Brava in Flagstaff - both were awesome.
Chino Bandito and Los Taquitos in Phoenix - loved Chino Bandito but didn't like what I tried at Los Taquitos.
