Have You Been to any Triple D Places?

On a spring break trip to Napa this summer, we went to Gott's Roadside. It lived up to the hype!

I doubt we've eaten at any of them. Doesn't sound like the kind of places we would seek out.

A few..... Dari-ette has been a mainstay in my family for a long time. My parents used to go on dates there, etc. I grew up in the area so it was a summer treat for us to swing by on the way home. We still go with my family...love it!

And, Donatelli's in White Bear Lake, MN. It was the hangout place when I was in high school. Good food...even to this day. We swung by a restaurant in the same complex last weekend and the wait at Donatell's was out the door..

Altho I have never eaten AT The Shed-we had their pulled pork Bar B q sandwich at their Food Booth in Ocean Springs MS during the huge Car Show-Cruisin the Coast!

Also CASAMENTO's in new Orleans...a few times-GREAT oyster po-Boys!

Do ya'll go to Cruisin' the Coast every year? We don't have a car to show but always enjoy going down and watching them ride up and down the coast. We also usually ride down during Scrappin' the Coast to see some of those wild rides!

Went to my first recently.

It was pretty good. I didn't have what he had. He had citrus pancakes. I did the carrot pancakes.

Irazu here in Chicago. Live right down the street from it.

Costa Rican place. Delicious!

Metro Diner (Jacksonville FL) I don't really like grits, but I love their shrimp and grits version! Yo Halla on the Square is supposed to be good too, but I don't like hot bananas, so not my cup of tea.

We go to Metro very occasionally, when we manage to get up ridiculously early or are willing to wait 2 hours for breakfast. Neither of those things happen often.
The Yo Halla is really good, but I like their 'special' versions better - the strawberry cheesecake version was soooo good. Unfortunately, they've since expanded to several locations and none of them are as good as the original, but still have 2 hour waits on weekend mornings.

I was not impressed with Singleton's Seafood Shack. Great ambiance, but the food was way overpriced for what it was.

We've been to Brandy's and Salsa Brava in Flagstaff - both were awesome.
Chino Bandito and Los Taquitos in Phoenix - loved Chino Bandito but didn't like what I tried at Los Taquitos.

Didn't realize Brandy's was on the list. Great food, tho I didn't appreciate the waitress spilling hot chocolate on my clean shirt.

Have you been to any restaurants from the series "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" (aka Triple D)? If so, how was your experience?

I have been to three:
  1. Taco Taco in San Antonio, TX. This was a very good place for Tex Mex. Highly recommend it. Time for another road trip to San Antonio.
  2. Black Duck Cafe in Westport, CT. This place was good but not great. Probably would not recommend it.
  3. Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk, CT. I have been to this place several times and it is very good. The Arepas are great. Highly recommend it.
....no, I haven't, but I'd sure like to...

No, but he was in my hometown (Pensacola) once vacationing and we had a few belts together.

There's a ton of controversy over the place. It has to do with the way the Taylor family sold their business, and the contract they signed. The new owner expanded but was told they only had the right to the Taylor name for that single location. So they renamed it Gott's Roadside. Been to the location in San Francisco.

I think I've been to a few because we usually try to look for a FN recommended restaurant when we travel, but the only one that comes to mind as a definitely is Pattie's Pierogies in Fall River, MA. The pierogies were EXCELLENT.... a TON of unusual varieties to choose from. Not a place I'd want to eat frequently (my waistline would hate me), but fun for once in a while...........P

It's weird that some of the Austin places on the list are classified as a diner, drive-in or dive. I would call most of them just a normal restaurant. Of the ones I have been to:

Magnolia Cafe- it's been around forever, pretty iconic Austin restaurant. The food is always good and fresh.
Taco Express- It's typical tex-mex. It's good, but not out of this world.
Green Mesquite- regular BBQ joint. Good, but there are far better in Austin.
Casino el Camino- Now this place is definitely a dive. The burgers are crazy good.
Noble Pig- overstuffed, rib-stickin' sandwiches. It's worth a visit.
Foreign and Domestic- too much hype and too many hipsters for my taste.

That's it for my list. Of all these, the burger at Casino wins.

I've eaten at Patti's a few times as well. I live in Fall River and think it's one of the best restaurants in town. We mainly have Portuguese restaurants and chains around here and I am NOT a fan of Portuguese food. I've also eaten at Evelyn's in Tiverton, RI (years ago) and The Corner Deli in East Providence, RI.
