Has Anyone Tried to Use Points from Their Resale Contract to Book at Restricted Resorts (Riviera, Fort Wilderness, etc.)?

It makes me think about those anti-theft devices on clothing. If the sensor by the door is broken, I can get a spirit jersey and walk right out. If they catch me after that, I don't expect them to say, "You weren't supposed to be able to walk out with that without the alarm going off. Here, we'll give you a Tshirt to make up for it." :lmao:
Except they ended up giving me the Grand Floridian T shirt because their employee let me walk out of the store with a more expensive Riviera T shirt because the store lost electricity and i couldnt see what i was buying and then others stormed in after me and were succesful in running in and grabbing whatever they could get their hands on and the shirt i wanted sold out. Okay now I am just confused 🤣🤣

I put on my mod hat and deleted several post…including my own….lets stay on topic.

Well shoot I'll repost the last part of mine that got nuked with the off topic purge.

System definitely isn't fixed yet, Did another check and It's still letting me choose all the same contracts as before to borrow from for restricted reservations. I wonder why it is taking them so long to fix this.

Well that is not good. I am supposed to get another call this week… might have to be proactive and send my certified letter about it to Yvonne.

At least the contracts that I do not own are gone.

There will also be people who are not aware that certain points cannot be used at RIV, who made a reservation, and who were offered an SSR contract to select points from. Fingers crossed not too many, but I can see it happening.

Agree with you though that anyone who makes a booking knowing that they are taking advantage of a glitch has to go in with the expectation it will be cancelled… or that they may get arrested?
I doubt there's anyone who is aware enough to know resale is an option, but doesn't know the restrictions that come along with it. I honestly don't even think MS should waste resources trying to help people who knowingly made reservations using restricted points. Cancel them and let the owner deal with it on their own.

I wonder if this glitch will allow me to book a members cruise with my resale points? (they are still Y points) after 1 set of restrictions, but before the 2nd.

I agree.

You can’t truthfully claim that you didn’t know about the resale restrictions and own resale yourself.

However if you only own direct points then there is a great possibility that you don’t know about resale and the restrictions that comes with it. But in that case it wouldn’t matter since you wouldn’t be impacted by them.

The membership extras which is the DVC Y doesn’t have anything to do with trades.

They only need to be direct points for resale points prior to 2012.

You can be DVC ND and still have points eligible for trades if you have direct points but not enough to be DVC Y eligible.

I point that out because they really are two different things.

Just an update. Checked into Riveria today using resale points - modified a reservation at BR to Riveria a couple weeks ago and the DVC system used the same resale points that were originally used for the BR reservation. So for everyone who said DVC should cancel my reservation since I unintentionally broke the rules, they did not.

Don’t know if a congrats is in place?

However in this day and age everyone including DVC relies on computer systems. If the system says a reservation is booked it’s booked. Unless someone says otherwise you can check in. Guess either DVC haven’t gotten around to do a clean up or maybe they did and found the task to clean up was too massive and let it go. Basically the costs to clean up is bigger than the reward.

My guess is that there was no way to go back easily and in that case, you are talking a stay that was only a few weeks after the glitch.

It seems that things have fixed, and I think there is still a possibility that rooms get found.

Congrats if it's their mistake then they should honor it, I'm glad they did 😀

Eh…. Not sure this is really accurate. I’m a mixed owner with 2 direct SSR contracts and 1 resale SSR contract (all showing up under the same membership number). I’m more knowledgeable than the average DVC member and even I would have to squint and double-check my files to remember which one is the resale contract. Your average DVC user? They could very easily be making reservations online without paying attention to which contract is which because they assume the system is working as it should.

I would argue that its your responsibility to ensure you use the correct contract. As a curtesy MS could call you and say you need to change the contract used as the current ones is restricted.

who's to fault if you car shows your speed is 25 mph but in reality its 50mph? and you get a ticket?- In europe its your own responsibility.

I think that is what it would come down to if DVC decided to do anything for rooms booked incorrectly.

Yes, website error…no, you don’t get to keep the room because of it.

Hopefully, it’s been fixed completely at this point

just catching up on this interesting glitch...can I ask if you needed a mixed bag of points in order to see Riv as an option in order to use restricted points there in the first place? How else would Riv show up on a totally post 2019 resale contract only membership. Just curious.
