Sad news if true, especially for new direct purchasers and for dues payments. I would definitely do discounted gift cards and auto draft for dues if that happens. That is what I did this year anyway.

I would probably keep it for a bit at least for the 1.5x redemption bonus. But I could see myself downgrading to the preferred. Or cancelling for a year or so and then signing up for another new member bonus. I haven't done that yet because of the usefulness of the card but if they want to keep raising the price and lowering earning potential, well I gotta get those points somehow lol.

It actually doesn't matter how long after you cancel it, just how long it has been since you last got a sapphire card bonus. I could theoretically cancel it and apply in a week and get the bonus since I've had the card for over 4 years.

That's what I said. You have to have 4 years since you received the last bonus. Glad you took a look at that.

You highlighted the part where I said "cancelling for a year or so" and then said "make that 4 years" which definitely sounded like you thought I had to cancel for 4 years. But the right info is out there now so no harm no foul.

And I didn't have to take a look at it, I already knew I haven't had a sapphire bonus for a long time and would be eligible for a new bonus if I wanted, but I have never cancelled and renewed because I do use the 1.5x redemption fairly regularly.

One can get a chase Unlimited card (free) which also gives UR points -you can transfer the points to the sapphire- Unlimited has run Paypal sept-dec for a few years as a 5% giving one 6%. Easy to find places to buy gift cards that accept Payapal and sometimes discounted. 1500 max spend. January they run Grocery stores 1500 max spend. Fairly easy to get 6% without looking for sales. BJs last year had discounts early November-mid December on Disney gift cards they accept paypal making it easy to get around 11-12% overall. Same with Target as they accept Paypal and you get the target rewards.
