Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Good idea!! Pick up some throw away stuff for the walk/jog, then chuck them in lieu of something more fun/expensive at say, hmmm, The Emporium. Yeah, that's it, no wait, Mousegears is nice too! :lmao:

Went looking thru my closet... :rolleyes1 No need for Goodwill (sad that!) I even have one of those Tyvek jackets - I never wore it - My mom was going to send it to Goodwill, but I took it!! :rotfl2:

Sandy, sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I hope your visit to the chiropractor helps and maybe can get you through the race.

Thank you so much for your good thoughts, and encouragement - I truly appreciate it!! Prayer is Powerful!!

Sandy, is your hip feeling any better? Be sure to ask your chiropractor to check your psoas. Sometimes that can get really tight and cause hip problems. I've basically had every possible injury in my bad (left) leg and hip and have plenty of suggestions of things you can try!

My mom and I walked 12 miles today at her mall. 12 miles in a mall is not very exciting. :lmao: I'm pretty happy to start tapering now.

I have to remember that psoas - Thanks Hope you are feeling tip top!

Hey Sandy!

I hope your get to the bottom of your hip issue! You are almost to the single digit countdown. :cool1::cool1:

I hope you had a relaxing holiday(this is an oxymoron at my house LOL).

You are having some weird dreams. I do find them interesting. I have no idea what they mean though. :confused3:confused3

I have no idea either!! But it was funny..

I am now in the "IGNORE IT" stage! :scared1:

ok...

I am totally remedial!

Can we review when we will be meeting up and such?

We have a supper scheduled for Saturday, right? What else do we have scheduled to meet up?

And can I get your bib numbers and such so that I can follow your progress on my iPhone and maybe find you guys? (Or at least stalk you and take pictures - assuming I see you - that I can forward to you? I PROMISE I will not take ANY pictures of you and put them on the DIS without asking. They will just be for you.)

anyway...

I am still here...I had to look back two pages to find where I have posted.

I gotta get back on track for my walking!

 Maroo

I sent you a PM - anyone else that needs the Sat info PM me - and my cell phone to call once you get there!!

Also WISH gets together on Friday at Pop Century Food Court for some bonding, a picture - and just hanging around talking and listening... usually early around 4 I believe (just from any park get on the Pop bus - I was so NOT thinking in '08 and went to DTD then transfered to Pop :rotfl2: *duh!)

My Bib # is 43054 - but dont expect the updates - they were sporadic, often after the fact. I think I may take my phone with me... not sure....

Okay completely caught up with everyone now.

Sandy, I am so happy that your DH finally received a job offer. How cool that the second one told him to call if he needed to. Love the puppy! So cute. Motivation to get out, yes? Will be a great training partner for next year. Will be praying that the court dates go okay and that your pain issues ease.

Dolce, girl I am so sorry you are having knee problems. Keep trying though. Just remember, while you wanted to run, and I completely understand, being there and finishing will be worth it. I plan to be at the finish line to see you cross it.

Tim, hit that 199 yet? You are doing tremendous progress.

Dislvr, ahhhh mall walking. I so wish my mall was closer so I could use it.

Maroo - hello, how is WW doing? I really need to find your threads again so I can see how your trip w/Rachel was. and everything else you have been doing. Lots I'm sure.

I printed out my forms when Dolce told us they were available. I have bib number: 49792 for the 1/2. I must be waaaaaay at the back cause my number is really far from Sandy's.

I walked Sunday and did 8.5 miles. I did very poorly and was very frustrated when I finished, but after reading Dolce's post I think I understand what I did wrong. First, I was in a very funky mood and had not slept well the night before. Then I decided to walk in my neighborhood instead of the track. I had mapped out a 2 mile route, but it has lots of hills and inclines. I use to walk this route almost daily with Roo, but haven't in several months. Between all the hills and having to avoid cars, (no sidewalks) I did 17 minute miles. :sad2:
I also couldn't get a pace going. It just didn't work. Today was my off day (took DH and the kids to the airport) and it was 32 degrees when I got home. I will attempt 6 miles tomorrow. and then 8 on Thursday and 11 on Sunday. I had so wanted to be to 14 by now. But I figure if I can do 11 or 12 on Sunday then I should be good to go for next week. I am going to do weights on the days I don't walk. With DH and the kids gone for a week, I should be able to keep to my schedule. But I have this thing with plans. They always go wacky.

I am so looking forward to meeting everyone next week. NEXT WEEK!!!!!!:scared1: It will be lots of fun. I really appreciate all of the tips everyone has been sharing.

Well....

You asked.

lol

I had lost 9 pounds...before Christmas...but I was super stressed and ate a bunch of junk...and have not even dared to weigh since I got back.

I was on the treadmill last night for 80 minutes (went about 5 miles? - but was just doing "time" today, not distance)...I am so afraid I just won't be able to walk for 3, almost 4, hours. So I am trying to get my TIME up...figure the speed will come in time.

Prior to last night, I had not really walked in almost 2 weeks...Disney my weight was stable - as I ate a bunch of junk, but walked it all off.

As for my threads...they are all in my siggie. :goodvibes

Things are crazy at work right now...you can pray for Tammy's family - she died on the 26th...37 years old, 4 children - died of lung cancer that was everywhere. Just made it through Christmas. Her service is today, so the clinic is closing so that we can all go. I love my job and the people I work with.

Anyway...I will see you guys in Disney!!!!!!! :)

One more thing...

I thought conventional wisdom said that we should taper down that last week so that we are not tired going into the race? Any thoughts on that? I am trying to finalize my "schedule" and would love to know what you guys think about that.

Taper madness.... http://www.tapermadness.org/ ROFLOL - THIS IS IT - I have Taper madness

. BUT if you have done a gruelling 20 miler - and it took you 2 weeks to recover - then be very careful about doing that a day before the marathon!!

same with the carbo loading - at my level it really doesnt make sense - but at a higher level of competing it may... (according to stuff I've read!)

Lisa its all good! Congrats on your stay- with- it- ness! I think you should do the neighborhood walk again - its more like the real course. Either way you are getting your miles in!!

DH did a 10 miler on the treadmill - and hasnt stopped complaining about it!! he got sores/blisters nothing compared to the outdoors (however, on WISH there are many many people that train on treadmills exclusively and do fantastic on race day!!)

Maroo Prayers for Tammy's family and friends... :littleangel:

I think when I get back from this Half Marathon - I'll start a pre trip for '11 - and I'm going to give up the junk and lose 20# before '11 Half!! Maroo - will you be with me?!!

I cant wrap my brain around any of this!

I remember the pain I suffered at the August '08 Half Chicago Marathon - severe pain - IN MY HIP! OMG - its probably the same thing!

DH no money coming in - can we even pay for this? (we have money in Disney Dollars for the Dining Plan - but, Disney is expensive, tips, esp... not to mention incidentals - gloves? hats? how about a Tyvek suit because of the cold? gu? what about when we return home?)

DH did find out he gets to start a week earlier than previously thought...

I so dont want to be swept - its all I'm obsessing about!

You should see my bedroom - a HURRICANE hit it! I cant find anything. I'm freaking out! What to pack? Can I take this on board? Can I have a roll on carry on and a purse?

I'm breathing... IN .... 3, 2, 1... OUT 3, 2, 1...

I'm better now...

You'll be ok, Sandy!! You've worked long and hard for this, and will do just fine! Relax, one day at a time, one mile at a time.

Breathe Sandy Breath....in...out...in...out....

everything will be okay....it really will.

Can you take some aleve before the race starts to help your hip along?

DH gets to start work a week earlier!?!?! :woohoo::woohoo:

Yes, Disney is expensive. I am having issues also. I am cutting down my spending $$ and will bring breakfast food with me (oatmeal and cereal bars) and possibly a couple snacks. Need gloves, hat? Walmart...$1 each. Not sure what a Tyvek suit is, but I'd stick with the old clothes to layer to pull off when it warms up.

You will be fine in the race. You have done this before and know what to expect. We are all in this together and are going to have a great time. Just keep thinking about how neat it will be to all meet and picture the Magic Kingdom, open just for us.

Carry on items haven't changed for those in the U.S. yet. DH and the kids traveled Monday and took all the normal stuff and didn't have any problems. DH's ID and ticket were scrutinized a bit more than usual, but I'm surprised that was all. Oh and the kids were asked their names instead of the agent going "Who's John?" and "Who's Amy?". I am planning to pack anything remotely questionable in my checked bag, even my Clif Bloks. I am going to carry my race shoes on the plane if I don't wear them. That is one of my fears. My luggage will be lost and I won't have any shoes to wear for the race. :sad2:

Come on Sandy you can do this and we will be with it. We are going to have a great time. :goodvibes

OK...

doing better... sorta... ;)

Saw the Chiro, I think I'm leaving in ONE WEEK!! :faint:

Making a packing list...

Things not to forget.. :rolleyes1

Crocs (or flip flops, after the race, you'll need OUT of your running shoes!)
Body glide, blox, gu, all this can be purchased AT the expo....

Hing If at the expo you see something you like - buy it - you wont find it afterwards... and as for the "I DONE IT" type shirts - buy it, and leave it with a friend or family member to give to you at the finish line ;) because they will be gone if you wait until AFTER you complete your race! (and you can take them back - I forget but I think I read on the WISH board somewhere DTD? Wont matter - you will finish!)

the tyvec thing is a lightweight white papery feel, but plastic insulating coat...

Go to the dollar store and buy $1 poncho - you can put it in your pocket - small, but it will be appreciated if it rains at all that morning (It will NOT, I've been praying, have you? Get your order for the weather in!! :goodvibes)

thanks I have added this to my list. :thumbsup2

Sandy - How are you feeling this evening? How is the hip?

Hey Dolce.....how is the new apartment? I really hope you are sleeping and feeling more secure now.

Maroo
- I have thought about your question about how to train the last week. Most things I have read say to do minimal and rest the last few days before. Probably works for most people. Personally, I don't fee ready and think I should keep going as I have been. I try to walk at least three times a week. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Last Tues I did 4 miles, Thurs-6 miles and Sunday-8.5. This week I planned to do 6-8-11. Now yesterday I only did 5.6, (got really cold), but I still hope to do 8 tomorrow. If I were to taper off, I'm afraid I would set back. I have only reached 10 once, but a couple weeks ago when I did 8 I felt like I could have done farther. I really want to do 11 this Sunday or I am going to have serious doubts for next week.

Sandy: It's allll going to be good.
(Don't worry, I'm freakin out right along with you!)

Congrats! on your DH getting to start work early.

Breathe Sandy Breath....in...out...in...out....

everything will be okay....it really will.

Can you take some aleve before the race starts to help your hip along?

Yes, Sandy: breathe in, breathe out. Your hip and my IT band. We're both going to be hobbling along toward that finish line, but we will hobble and we will make it!

eyor: There's something that you're not supposed to take while doing an activity such as a marathon b/c it can cause liver damage. (b/c of your body's dehydration) Is Aleve ok to take? I would love to have some for the full. My leg's going to need it!

SO glad to hear this! I need to be able to have my ipod and a book and sodoku at hand. I'm terrified of flying -- like to the point that I really need to take something before I get on the aircraft but I never do. Actually, I'm already starting to panic about the flight right now, as I type this. My fear is severe. I couldn't sit on that plane for a couple of hours with nothing to do!

Oh, and for the Cliff Blocks - when I flew to Boston in Oct I packed my entire running gear in my carry-on as I had a planned run to do on the ship as soon as I arrived (wound up doing the run the next day instead). But per my original plans, I would need my running gear before my suitcase arrived to my stateroom. I had Cliff Blocks in my carry-on with the rest of my running gear and they made it fine to Boston and then from Boston and back to Dallas (as I still had some) in my carry-on.

Hey Dolce.....how is the new apartment? I really hope you are sleeping and feeling more secure now.

Hey, thanks for asking. I love my new place. Today is my b-day so I had some friends over tonight and they all loved it. I do feel much safer here.

Hmmmmm:scratchin seems I gonna be doing some research this weekend on the Aleve. I know that sinus meds are not recommended cause of the dehydration issue (not sure how I am going to handle that one) but didn't even think about the Aleve. I was already considering not taking my regular stuff until after, just to be on the safe side. Hmmmmmm:surfweb:

So you think the clif bloks will make it through security okay? I wasn't too sure how close to a gel they would be considered. I'll double check with DH today on what restrictions they actually had on the plane, if any. They flew Delta.

Sandy - how are you doing today?

oh Dolce

DOLCE
Happy Happy Birthday!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Glad you like your new place!!

We are getting closer!!

I am going to sound like a whiner - but we have a waterbed - and it leaked, so dh had to drain it, and he found mold - so we had to sleep "elsewhere" (I slept on the couch he slept in DS old room - a twin bed - - I needed the tv, so I picked the couch...

and OMG I am so stiff and sore!! I'm sure part of it is the chiro treatment - which believe it or not I believe made a positive difference!! :goodvibes I go again on Saturday - he is a major athlete (soccer) so I am trusting him!

Aleve DH took it as a preventive before and he didnt think it made a difference, he would rather take it afterwards - as for the allergy meds he says that you have to weigh your system on that day... because the weather wont be too too hot - you may be ok if you need it, take it...

:cheer2: ITS NEW YEARS EVE :faint: 6 days and counting till we leave!! :scared1:

Sandy, maybe your SI joint is just out of whack, which hurts like crazy but responds well to chiro treatment. There are ways to adjust that yourself, so ask your chiro for self treatment ideas while you are out of town.

Your bed story reminds me of the time my DH and I fled our room due to a mouse that we could not trap. We were both convinced it would run across us while we were sleeping. We ended up (BOTH of us) in our extra twin bed. It was just like college! Or what college would have been like if I had known my DH then. I certainly didn't share my dorm room bed with any other guys. Moving on....

I am officially freaking out about the weather. I'm prepared to run in the cold up here, but I was expecting to wear warm weather gear in FL. I guess it isn't bad that I forgot to order the new running skirt that I need because I'll probably be wearing my capris. I grabbed some throw away gloves and a sweatshirt off the clearance rack. I already have a nice fleece headband to protect my ears. I'm checking a suitcase because I have such a short layover in ATL and I don't want to be sprinting across the airport with a large carry-on. Thus, I'm just going to pack everything I could possibly need and will figure out what to wear Saturday morning. I'm just going to throw my capris, tshirt, shoes, and socks in my backpack.

Speaking of traveling, I'm also regretting my choice to fly down Friday morning. I'm leaving from BMI, which is a small airport, and I'm worried about delays. I have no time to spare in ATL. I'm only willing to chance it because there are several more flights to MCO from ATL after mine and I'm sure I could get on something if I miss my connection. My mom is flying direct from MDW. I'm hoping they will let her pick up my packet with a copy of my waiver and ID if I don't make it in time. Oh well, there isn't anything I can do about it now. I am catching a 5:50 AM flight, which means I have to leave my house around 3:30 AM - at least I'll be on the right schedule to catch that early bus to the start line!

60% chance of rain?!!!!! This really, really sucks.

Everyone go out and buy fancy rain gear. It's our only hope to keep the rain away.
