Think about it. Why would they give you that choice? Of course everybody's going to go with the cheaper option. The source is saying park hopper plus.

true. I was just confused by the article I guess...ugh I wasn't planning on getting park hopper. oh well.

This year I was going to go for a value so for me the changes are ok.

Do you think the values will be hard to come by? Since moderate will no longer have DDP?

I'm seeing a lot of chatter about people moving from moderate down to value and either paying for any TS meals OOP or upgrading to DDP with the money they save by switching. Regardless, I definitely see the values filling up quicker. I don't think Disney fully thought this through.

I think they did. Disney doesn't like this discount. Every year they change the requirements and what is offered. Also two of the moderate resorts are undergoing major construction right now. That means inventory at those moderates will already be limited. Pushing people to values is what they want.

LOL Yes, from the perspective of wanting to phase it out, they definitely thought it out. I hadn't thought about the mods already being limited.

As far as I'm concerned they might as well not offer anything if it's QS FD at the Mod resorts. They will need Reg FD at the Mods if they want my business.
Kind of a selfish way to look at it

I have never used FD before so forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question, but is FD that huge of a discount? Does it really incentivize people who weren't planning to visit to now visit?

It can be. I did it for many years.

When I started I stayed at POP Century, got the regular DDP, got an appetizer and my tips were included.
GREAT DEAL all that FREE just for paying value rack rate.
Then they took away the appetizer and tips.
When they took away the DDP and made values only QSDP, I moved to moderates.
AND I began to book it for 4 adults.
My DH/DD would come for half the trip with California Grill and 2 credit meals.
They left and DS & I would stay on with theirs and our remaining credits.
When DH/DD could no longer come it was no longer a value $ wise for DS & I.
Especially since we have APs and TiW.
The next year we booked POP again and did QSDP for 12 days.
UGH YUK UGH YUK
That was our last time because (1) we can't make the numbers work (2) it wasn't our eating style.
I now do room discounts, no buying tickets we don't need and using my AP/TiW dining discounts.
Don't miss it at all.

In some cases, yes. In some cases, no.

All you can do is figure your costs with a room only discount (including what you expect to spend on food) and figure your costs with free dining. Since room discounts on value rooms tend to be very small, it's easier to make it pay at a value resort, especially if you have 3 or 4 people in the room qualifying for the deal. 2 people staying in a deluxe resort will probably find the room only discount more beneficial.

YES! If it's about the Dining Plan and you would have to pay more for DDP at a moderate in addition to the rack rate at a moderate, then other than beds and some amenities you may as well stay at a value.

I think free dining does incentive people. As to how good of a discount it is, that varies. But I think to many it's perceived as a good discount and is probably one of the most popular ones they offer the general public.

I sure hope they offer this again. We are planning on spending Christmas there this year and hopefully doing Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party for the first time ever!

It is for me I have four adults in a room that's a roughly $280 a day discount. So I'll probably shoot for a standard room at akl or wl.

I'm beginning to wonder how many folks will abandon the moderates for the value resorts if Disney only offers full FD to those staying at deluxe resorts.
That's what I'm saying! Why not just stay at Pop and upgrade to DDP or stay at AKL or WL standard rooms. There doesn't seem to be any incentive to stay at a mod. Plus adding in the cost of park hopper or park hopper plus the savings just isn't there for a mod. Maybe a room only discount would make more sense for a mod. I guess I really need to look at all the numbers to see what makes sense for us. It's just me and my husband but we like the time out from the parks once a day to have a sit down meal so quick service wouldn't cut it.

Does anyone think a room only discount will appear on the same dates. We are going October 1-8 and are looking for one at por royal rooms which we already have a reservation for anyway. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I definitely think they'll be offering a RO discount as well.
