Feeling Hot Hot Hot! The Rain Curse is Broken! Two Weeks of Fun in the Sun! COMPLETE

Mmmm... the slushie looks good, even though I don't like blue raspberry stuff. What a mystery. Hahah.

It's not that dollar coins aren't popular, it's just that they're rare. It's actually very exciting if you randomly happen to get one!

 I guess it just doesn't make sense to me. Why would the government introduce a $1 coin but then not mass produce it and eliminate the bills. :confused3

We were living in Virginia when the coins were introduced and everybody I knew collected them rather than spending them and circulating them. :confused3

I think the dollar was taken out of circulation in the 80's and the two dollar bill was removed from circulation in the mid-90's. I remember when the toonie's came out very clearly, my dad would always make the joke about "The Queen with the bear behind". Also, we had fun with them at school because the centre piece would pop out if you threw the coin at the ground just right. That was the height of fun for the 6th graders at my school that year.

I remember that about some of the first ones separating which lead to a suggestion of calling it a "lucian" after the then leader of the bloc Quebecois. I've probably spelled both horribly wrong but french is not my first langue and I don't wan to bother looking it up, and I love using the term "Queen with a bear back" to describe it to people.

Yeah it doesn't really make much seance to me either. I saw a thread on the Ears to Ears yahoo group were people were asking people to get some of them for them as if they were being sold. Why don't they just ditch the dollar bill and only use the coins, why have both?

Lucien Bouchard? :lmao: I hadn't heard that one, that is hilarious! I just heard the "moonie" nickname because of the whole "Queen with the bear behind". I suppose I was too young to get the political jokes.

Silly Americans. ;)

I think that may have been more of a Toronto suggestion. It may have been a DJ in Toronto that said it.

Silly Americans. ;)

Trix are for kids right :rotfl2:

 Very possible, we were out in BC at the time. Not nearly as involved with Quebecois politics.

Probably not we tend to make jokes about Quebec and Ottawa a lot here as they seam to get everything they want from the feds well we have to beg on both needs to get anything. Then we have everyone else in the country hating us.

I am slowly adjusting to using coins in Switzerland. We have 1, 2, and 5 franc coins. When I go back to the US now, the one dollar bills annoy me!

:sad2:It seems like we were very close on a few days, but never got a chance to meet. We were in the middle of a very boring KP mission at the time.

I never understood why they tried to introduce the $1 coin back into circulation. I used to work at grocery store and no one would take them with their change.

Wow, everything looks so good at the caramel store. How do you decide? I think I want one of those cupcakes in April!

Great World Showcase pictures!

That's so strange that people refused them. :confused3

It is definitely a hard decision! Next time I will try something different.

We never had that problem here as they just got rid of the 1 and 2 dollar bills completely. All you got from stores or banks was the coins bills were excepted but they were taken out of circulation as people would spend them.

I hate coins. They never made sense to me, they get heavy in your change purse.

I had so much fun teasing my hubby Kevin aboot (yes, done on purpose :rotfl:) loonies and toonies when he took me home to meet his Dad. Kevin's from Cape Breton.

I thought Japan was a great pavillion, great shop complete with Domo's.

Love your pics from the Maharajah trail. I can only get Joe to do one animal trail per visit, so we have not done the Maharajah trail in a while. I don't know if we will do it in June because we are going to take the safari tour. (CANT WAIT!)

and those bats from Asia are freakin' huge!

We were in WDW on May 20 too - I remember that was our DTD day. We spent most of the morning in the pool, and really should have done the whole day because we just about melted in DTD. we went from shop to shop just to be in the a/c. Too bad I didn't know you were all there ...it would have been so fun to meet up!

Whispering Canyon = -- how did I not know that you could order a Mimosa with breakfast? I shall have to remedy some of this!!!

I ordered turkey sausage instead of regular - much much better.

Don't you just love wandering the WLR lobby and taking pictures? I love to go up to the different floors and shoot down.

I am almost caught up, but have to go pick up girl scout cookies ;)

 Yes, but coins last so much longer than bills and make much more sense economically! Up here, nearly everybody uses debit to pay for everything anyways so minimal weighing down of coin purses. ;)

You Americans and your silly notions about Canada. ;)

That should be exciting!

Yeah, too bad, we seemed to miss so many Dis meet opportunities on our trip.

FYI: I am not sure if anyone has heard, but The Bank of Canada is coming out with new notes (dollar bills) starting with the $100 bill that is coming out on November 2011 followed by $50 bills on March of 2012 and $20,$10,$5 coming by late 2013. All New look and feel. The all new Canadian bills are made out of polymer plastic that made it more secure durable and will last longer than the old bills made out of paper.

The Polymer Series Bank Notes carry benefits that you’ll appreciate as you make those basic transactions of everyday life.

Secure: Their leading-edge security features are easy to verify and hard to counterfeit.
Durable: They last at least 2.5 times longer than paper notes, reducing processing and replacement costs and environmental impact.
Innovative: The detailed metallic imagery carried in a transparent area of the notes makes for one-of-a-kind currency.
Easy to Handle: The new notes feel different from paper notes, but are just as simple to use.

May 21st continued

After relaxing and enjoying the air conditioning in Japan for a while we moved on to the next pavilion, Morocco. We didn't stop to do anything here other than get a photopass picture.

Morocco is a lovely pavilion but we had stopped there on one of our previous Epcot days and there really isn't much there to draw you back in.

I was excited to see Belle and The Beast out for photos as we neared France. This turned out to be a pretty hilarious character encounter.

First I got a picture of just the characters and then I hopped in the picture. I tend to get my pictures without my brothers so that I can have a "normal" photo.

Then Alek and Erich went in for the kill. Alek and The Beast really hit it off. The Beast thought Alek was hilarious. He hunched over and was slapping his leg in laughter due to Alek's antics. The photopass photography thought it was pretty hilarious as well. The photographer asked Alek how old he was, when he responded with 25 that is when The Beast keeled over in laughter.

Of course, Mom had to get a picture as well!

After we finished goofing around with the characters we skipped over the rest of World Showcase. We walked through the rest of the pavilions without stopping, it was extremely hot and humid out and Alek and I had Test Track fastpasses to use. We snapped a few photos as we walked through the rest of World Showcase but we did not stop to browse the shops or see any shows.
