OK, this might be a hot topic, I don't hang out on this forum, but my family are WDW veterans who were at DL last month, and got very confused.

Everybody went through the bag check line. None of use carry a bag. We do this because we like to travel light AND so we don't have to go through bagcheck at WDW.

But we had to go through bagcheck in DL. There was no other option we could see.

What gives? Was there a secret line somewhere else? What was the point of us standing in line and wasting our time in a bag line with no bags?

Yep, there is no "no bag" line at Disneyland. Why? I don't know.

I recall hearing that they did try to have a no bag line in the past, but people with bags would go through that line as well in order not to be separated from their party that did not have bags.

Yeah, I think it stinks as we're the same way (we specifically go light to not have to worry about bags). But them's the rules.

I think they've tried a few times but too many people either do what you said, or think their one bag doesn't count, etc.

Bagcheck is also more than "bag" check. They give folks without bags a quick once-over to make sure they aren't smuggling things on themselves.

The nice thing about DLR is that you only have to do bag check once, and it is located on the sides before you enter the center pavilion/courtyard/whatever. So even if you plan to park hop, you are only checked once. I have also never experienced long lines in bagcheck like I have in WDW.

I've been back in the evening to make it in time for fireworks or Fantasmic. It was down to one tent, and it took a good 10 minutes in line. I'm not sure why they didn't open up another tent, but that's what I remember.

During the day when they have two or three tents running, I haven't waited too long, but 7 minutes was the longest.

That's funny because whenever I do it in WDW there is almost never a line, and I feel like the bag checks are so much longer in DL.

It takes two minutes people. Not a big deal.

After wrestling with people through shuttles or walkways, eager to get into the resort, it's sometimes maddening to wait even a few minutes. When the lines are long and only one tent open, it's more frustrating for sure.

I personally feel safer that there is strict bag check rules. You just never know what someone might try to bring in the park, whether they have a bag or not. I've personally never been in a bag check line for more than 10 minutes, so for me, it's worth it.

You may be in for a long day then. Sometimes you deal with all of the above that you mentioned in the parks too.

When my brother and I were there in 2011 I recall them beckoning us over from the line when they saw we had no bags and basically saying go on in after a quick look over. I took that as the normal procedure but maybe not lol. If not then that is what they should do. When people with no bags are closer to the tents and tables they should tell them to come on over, give a visual once over and go on through. Save a few minutes anyways :)

I don't mind the bag check, I understand why there is bag check.

What drives me nuts is the person with 3 bags who is so confused by the whole process and holds up the line.

We were entertained while we waited in the bag check line when they opened a "No Bags Line" last Christmas. First, one lady with a loaded down stroller didn't think she and her munchkins needed to go through the bag check despite having a stroller full of bags because "it's a stroller." Then there was the couple who felt they should go through the no bags line because he didn't have a bag, and she was with him, so her back pack shouldn't count. And the lady who thought she she be able to go through no bags because she just had a "little purse". (It was a clutch.) All that in the space of maybe 4-5 mins. Yep, people can't follow rules so we don't have a "No Bags" line.

As a previous poster said- Bag check isn't bag check- it is the security tents. Dh has been asked to show his waistline on occasion- he likes the button-up over a wifebeater look.
One trick I love though is to check which color the tents are so you know which way to go. When we were new to California i can't tell you how many times we walked out the wrong way!

ROFL! Yep, everyone goes through --- bags or not. I am laughing because I have a friend who never has a bag when he goes to Disneyland. And it drives him crazy that there is no "no bag" line. I used to hear about it a LOT from him.

This is EXACTLY what happened! I was going to write a very similar reply, but Malcon10t did it so well, there is no need.

Yes, at DLR, everyone goes through the bag check. ;)

I like how everyone has to go through bag check. Would you rather go through metal detectors and be physically searched like they do at other theme parks?

That's not really a fair comparison to make, since at WDW there is a no bags line. The OP was simply wondering why at one Disney theme park it is one way but an another Disney theme park it's another.
