We are sailing on the Magic March 30 and it looks like we will be dining in Lumineres on the Tropical night. MY question is since it is Tropical night will you be able to wear your Tropical outfit (including shorts) to dinner or should you change to appropriate attire for Lumineres for dinner. We have late seating. Our time is getting short and we are so excited.

Tropical night is the exception to the dress code. On our Jan cruise DH wore a pair of Dockers with his tropical shirt. If you are concerned about the shorts you might just wear the Dockers to dinner then change into shorts for the party.

Definitely wear your tropical attire. It was a blast. On a side note about dress codes.....my 16 year old son flat out refused to bring anything for formal night...he was not planning on going at all. We have sailed before on DCL and have some great family "dress up" shots, so I did not feel the need to force him to go to formal dinner.

Well, of course he found friends onboard who were going to their formal night so now all of a sudden he wanted to go to formal night. I am sitting in the dining room and in walks my son in a black t-shirt, khaki long pants. He looked OK, not my idea of formal attire but I was so glad he decided to join the family for dinner. He pulls me aside and tells me to look at his feet. HE IS WEARING HIS SLIPPERS!!!!! At first I just about died, but then when looking again, they didn't look that bad. They were brown suede and looked like brown loafers. Again, not my idea of formal wear but he did make the effort!!!!! No one even noticed. People were dressed in all levels of formal wear.

We are on the same cruise! How do you know already what your dining order (lumieres on tropical night) will be? I thought you can't get that until you are on the boat???

I am just guessing that we will have that rotation as we are not cruising with children, and from what I see on the boards that is likely to be what ours will be. Have you gotten your cruise documents yet? We haven't but my sister and her husband have.

On the non formal nights is it acceptable for a guy to dress in Dockers slacks and a golf shirt? Or am I required to wear a jacket to every dinner?

TNcruiser, we received are documents for our March 30, Magic cruise on Febuary 15, 2002.

yes we actually received our cruise docs a couple of weeks ago - way earlier than our last cruise!

Wishiwasgolfing- Yes, a nice golf shirt and dockers is fine for Parrots's Cay & Animator's Palate. They suggest you wear a jacket for Lumiere's, as it is a bit dressier. If you get Lumiere's the first night ( Sat.), no jacket is necessary- as they view this as a casual night. Some people at our table didn't even have their luggage delivered by 6PM. This is why they are lax about it the first evening. Jacket is appropriate for dinner at Palo's, nice golf shirt & dockers for brunch. On Sun. & Thurs.- formal/semi formal nights- we saw 50% tux, 50% dark suits.

Thanks Dianthus, that helps alot. I forgot to ask about dress codes for children at dinner. I have 6 year old son and 3 year old Daughter. What is the recommended dress code for kids?
thanks,

They didn't appear to be picky with the little kid's attire. I think the most important thing is comfort for them to sit through the meal!

I saw everything from Jr. tuxes & frilly dresses- to nice t shirts and shorts for the kids. I don't think it really matters.

Yea!! We finally got our cruise packet yesterday. I think the delay was due to the fact that I cancelled the air portion as we couldn't get decent flight time through DCL travel. Thanks to all the advice on the boards I took the big plunge and did it myself, saving a lot of money, which I'm sure DCL wil get back once we are on board. Now I can't wait to leave. Hope to see all of you on board.
