Hi everyone.

I have decided on what I want for Chrismtas. A much needed bit of pampering. DH is trying to decided if it would be cheaper at the local gym we go to (the kids could go to the child care, that is good.) and it wouldn't take time away from our vacation.

However we are thinking about SSR too. We will be staying there in early Jan and I think the quality might be better.

What treatments has anyone tried. I am thinking message, facial, skin treatments something nice.

Any ideas.

Does DVC get a discount? ( I think I remember reading they do.) :teeth:

Try checking out www.relaxedyet.com
They have a list of treatments and their descriptions. I was there last week and on my birthday 11/30 I had the peppermint pig pedicure, and I added on parrafin treatment for me feet. It was heavenly! They only offer that in the winter, I'm not sure when that ends.
Yes, we get a discount but only on certain treatments. Check out the members website of a list that apply.

My DH had a massage there a few weeks ago and said that the facility is very nice and the massage very relaxing.

Thanks for the link. I am going to check it out. Right now the prices seem a bit more then my local health club. I have to see what the discount is also. Still might do something because it might be fun to have a message at a fancy facility. :cool1:

Anyone else with reports?

I have 2 conflicting reports...

First the good one...DH has had 2 deep tissue massages there and absolutely loves them. I'll have to ask him if he remembers the masseuse. He said yes it's more expensive but you get more than usual...the rooms are nicer and quieter, the ambience is more relaxing, the lockers/showers are nicer...on and on. And I have to let you know he is not the type of guy that will spend on himself so that's a huge compliment to SSR! :goodvibes

Now the bad one...I had scheduled a pedicure for me and a 1st pedicure for dd at the same time. Scheduling got messed up and they overbooked and put dd in a desk chair. Okay no big deal but they didn't discount it for skipping her foot bath and everything that goes with it...the whole experience was rushed, it says it's 45 minutes we were out in 25, she had blisters on the bottom of her feet from them being rubbed too hard w/the pumice stone...it was a lot of little aggravating things that added to up to me deciding not to go back after I was charged $225 for it. I still feel taken advantage of over the whole thing.

Now for the disclaimer... :teeth: ...I truly believe my experience is the exception, things are always going to go wrong every now and then. I won't return but DH is already talking about going back during our April trip. Based on what he said and the tour we had I would recommend you try it out! (And then report back. :earboy2: )

Based on what you said I would hav been disapointed with the pedicure also. My friend and her sister got one on our last trip. I passed. As it was it was rushed, but that was our poblem, we had PS at 1900 park fare and needed to go. (we got there in time, but her son was fast alseep by then. He did wake up and eat eventually, but we got the funniest picture of Cindy kissing him on the head while he slept!)

I was thinking more along the lines of facial treatment, but I don't want my skin to be to raw for the trips (and the sun.) I never miss a chance to get a good message. My last one was at VB in May. I think it would be nice to have one a fancy spa as your husband said. I used to get them at Life Time Fitness when I was pregnant, they were nice but rather low key.

I have really enjoyed the spa both times I have used it. Once was for a pedicure with my friend. My feet looked beautiful afterwards- several strangers actually complimented me on my feet! Fancy that!

Last trip I had the Mystical Forest Therapies massage type treatment. It was heavenly and had about 20% off for DVC members. Not sure if it is true but I read somewhere AP holders get 10% off treatments too so that might be an option if the treatment you like doesn't have a DVC discount.

I say go! It is lovely if you can get there early enough to relax in the steam and spa!

Dh and I both had massages there. We used the DVC discount on the swedish massage. (Here's a tip: once you get in there..they will offer you to upgrade to a Aromatherapy Massage---basically they use nice smelling oils--for another $15 I think it is). And it comes out to be cheaper than if you were to just book the Aromatherapy massage-no DVC discount on that. We went seperately. Both had wonderful experiences. We went in July. Next time though..I will get more done! I would go for a Deep tissue massage next time because I like more pressure and to fet the "kinks" out. I am a bigger woman and I had asked (when I booked) about robe sizing (they have robes going all the way up to 5x!-I'm not a 5x though!) They must have noted it because they had my size robe in my locker..which was supernice. The lady 2 lockers down had a robe that was so small on her that if she turned just a little her b**b would pop out and it was sooo short as well. She was pissed and embarrased and she wasn't heavy at all! I am sure they don't ask your weight, but to be safe ask about the robes. They are really comfy too! I don't know how your gym is or if it's a relaxing atmosphere...but to get treatments in a relaxed setting..with soothing music and beautiful smells, just enhances the experience. You can also use the fitness facilities for the rest of the day..inckuding the sauna, spa, fitness equipment. We also bought some of the massage oil to bring home! DH is hooked now! Go for it!

Oooh...

I hope I'm not stating the obvious here but especially with a spa experience its a discretionary item so if something is not to reasonable and customary expectations you should inquire more closely about it. Putting me in a chair when I expect a massaging chair and water jets for my feet? Not unless you plan on discounting the experience and you tell me that up front. I'd rather wait and get what I paid for or change to something else. Robe too small? I had that experience recently at Ritz Carleton's Reynolds Plantation. I asked for a robe that fit...other people in my party asked for sandals that fit. And guess what? They got them.

The point of being in a spa is to be catered to. So make them deliver what you've paid for.

Did you speak to the manager about your problems?

We had a minor problem one day and they gave us a comp for the problems, they were very nice about it. We had gone several times before and never had problems.

Still trying to decide. Does anyone know what the SSR discount is?

No I didn't and I should have. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble blah blah blah. :confused3

I just called to make my appointment today (got a gift certificate for Christmas -- hoorah!!!). Prices are changing slightly on January 1st. A spa mani & pedi together, with the DVC discount, will be $92, which I believe is no change. He said he thought my 50-minute Swedish massage would be $92 with the discount, as opposed to $88. He also said if I wanted to know for sure, to call the spa back after January 1st.

Other DVC prices, per the member web site:

Swedish Massage (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $88.00

Mystical Forest Therapies (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $100.00

Aromatherapy Facial (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $92.00

Mystical Forest Body Masque & Wrap (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $96.00

Hydro-Massage Therapies (45 minutes)
Member Cost: $85.00

Spa Manicure (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $40.00

Spa Pedicure (50 minutes)
Member Cost: $52.00

I have always had great experiences at that spa - even before it was SSR. I LOVED the hot stone massage and totally loved the paraffin treatment. GO GO GO! and have fun!

I will never get a facial or a pedicure again only because i need tough feet for walking and I love to sit in the sun - so those things are counter to each other!

The SSR spa is my favorite over the GF one. I hope to go the Ritz spa sometime.

Thanks so much for posting that. Around $100 (or under before tip) was what I was hoping it would be around. Now what to get. They all sound good! I can't wait! :Pinkbounc

I need some TLC!

I went last year for the hot stone therapy--it was the most amazing experience I ever had. I felt truely pampered and relaxed--I would do this again in a heartbeat! Absolutely loved it!

DH and I tried the spa when we were there at the beginning of Dec. We had a great time. We both tried the Hydro-Therapy Massage and the Aromatherapy Massage. They were both wonderful. The robes are cut very small so I highly recommend asking for a larger robe. You will be much more comfortable. The facilities are very nice. My therapist was Aimee and I think I would have to say it was the best massage I have had yet.
