I don't really have an opinion either way. Whatever the homeowner likes is fine by me...shoes or no shoes. It's such a little thing to get upset over regardless of what is expected. The one thing I would point out, however, is that if you want your guests to remove their shoes, it would be very polite to have a chair near the door that they can sit on to remove and put on their shoes. I have an autoimmune neurological disease that makes balance very difficult. Trying to stand on one foot while putting a shoe on the other would be very difficult and awkward.
