Do you clean your house before you leave?

We clean the house from top to bottom too. In fact our October trip means it is time for our Fall Cleaning. Nice and sparkling for when we get home!

Hey GoofyDad.....I'm from Maryville too! Small Small world!!!!!

Ok so at least I know I am not alone. I ALWAYS have to do this. I try to keep up on the house cleaning throughout the week (yeah right) but sometimes I tend to get lazy and spend too much time on the laptop!!! I used to have 3 cats (and the one that recently passed away was a VERY dirty and furry cat) so I got into the habit of making sure the house was clean when I left because I knew it would be dirty/furry (from the dirty/furry cat) Now that he is gone we have only taken this last trip and I still had to clean the house before we left (guess it goes along with packing - I have to wash the clothes anyway - since we wear the same thing here year round as what we would to WDW.)

yes, I clean also, laundry has to be done. We usually stay overnight at a hotel near the airport, so bed linen get changed and all the laundry gets washed and put away. Hamper is completely empty when we leave. Fridge is cleaned out of all food that will be spoiled when we get home. I also returning to a clean home.

Ok, I was cleaning out the junk drawer, but I was on a roll! And I hadn't cleaned behind the oven in ages so now seemed like a good time to do it :earboy2:

That, my friend, was packing denial! LOL. I am an expert at finding something else to do that really doesn't need to be done instead of what I should be doing.

As for the OT, I have done both. I have left my house a disaster in my flurry to get to the airport. I have also left my house clean. I like clean better and I make an effort to clean as I go when I pack.

I like to make sure everything is clean before we leave for our trip. Of course this year is different. We are moving into our new place on Oct. 1st and then leaving for FL on Oct. 22nd, so I hope we are at least all unpacked by the time we leave this year! If it's clean even better, but as long as we are unpacked, that will make me happy!

Yes, I am fanatical about cleaning before a trip. I am much more motivated then, so I usually accomplish some of the bigger projects I never feel like doing, such as cleaning under the refrigerator and moving all the furniture. I love having a clean house to return too. All laundry and dishes are also done before the trip and the sheets and towels are changed out, washed, and put away.

Now that we are DVC members, I am also going to try and do the laundry while on vacation. Especially when we have a washer/dryer in our villa, it really doesn't take long or put a crimp in our vacation at all. It is so nice not to come home and have to deal with mounds of laundry.

I have to admit that I am one of those cleaners too. I have been frantically dusting, vacuuming, and straightening the whole house this week. Same with the laundry too - it all has to be done before we go. Just can't help myself - I love to come home from vacation to a clean house.

I clean my house and my office before I leave. Last year, we traveled later in December than we usually do, and I told my son and his family that we would celebrate Christmas at their house so that I didn't have to get my holiday decorating done before I left (the year before I ended up doing all of my decorating Thanksgiving weekend). I cleaned everything, changed my sheets, towels, made sure that the cat food was available so that DS or DDIL could feed the cats, put my plants in the kitchen sink so all they had to do was spray them, and off we went. I returned to a house fully decorated for Christmas, and all the fixin's for Christmas dinner waiting for me. DS, DDIL and DGD all SWORE that Santa came while we were away. Of course, I ended up with the holiday mess anyway, but it wasn't too bad because I already had my spring reservations for WDW, and knew that I would be cleaning the house again before that trip!

Our house is for sale right now so it HAS to be clean in case someone wants to come see it. Even when our house wasn't for sale I made sure the house is clean and the laundry is done, I've got enough to do when we get home from WDW - don't want to do double the cleaning and double the laundry!!

i always clean too..usually have stacks of ''vacation laundry" to do when we get home and would rather not jump into shoveling the house out also

I feel better if I don't walk in to a laundry room filled with stuff. I have two DD's so I have to do laundry every day, they like to change outfits a lot. what I really love is going to the beach, the condo has a washer/dryer combo, I wash everything up while we're there, come home with all our stuff just needing to be put away. Getting weird in my old age :goodvibes

I am another one of those cleaners. However, it never fails...the day we are leaving, DH throws things everywhere in his final, frantic packing mode! ;) He is learning though. Who wants to clean a house when they return from vacation, ESPECIALLY when you get home from Disney World. That thought is just plain depressing!

Have a Disney Day! :earboy2:

I also have all my Xmas shopping done and wrapped before we go so once we get back, I can enjoy the holidays. This has been a tradition for years and works out well. Of course, I always save one or two of the "santa" gifts so if my DD8 changes her mind closer to Xmas I just run out and grab the last two things I need.

How in the world do you find the time to do all that? I MUST be doing something wrong!! I have a confession to make, a couple of years ago we left on a WDW vacation, the house was spotless except...... DH thought I took out the garbage, and he thought that I took it out. EEEEWWWW how gross after 10 days vacation. Don't ever do this!!! :rotfl2:

The same thing happened to me 30 years ago....after all these years, I still remember how I felt coming home... and it will never happen again. I think that horrible incident is the reason that I always clean well prior to any get-a-way.

we live in a rural area and so most people get a field mouse or two when the weather gets cold.we were gone, got one that died inside the house and well it had plenty of time to "ripen" before we got home
:faint:

OMG! Where's my mom for this post?! :rotfl2: She does that AAALLLL the time and it really bugs me cuz we're dying to get out of the house and on our way and she's dilly dallying with the cleaning cuz she HAS to have a clean house when she returns from vacae! She would love to know that other people do that too, then she can say to me, "See, I'm not the only one!".

:wizard: :pug:

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only compulsive person who does this :rotfl:. Before I leave I have to make sure the house is clean, dishwasher has been emptied, trash goes out, laundry is done, refrigerator's cleaned out and the cat box is clean. Of course this usually means I'm up the entire night before vacation cleaning and packing, so I'm exhausted by the time I get on the plane (which is always the very first flight of the day when going to Disney). A cat nap on the plane and I'm ready to go when we land.

But it's SO nice to come home to a clean house! :cloud9:

Yes, I always clean before I leave for vacation or go in the hospital. I know it's a weird thing with me but then again you just never know what may happen.
On another note I would hate to come home to a messy house, it is going to be enough of a let down to have to come home at all, and the house being a wreck would just add insult to injury. I was reading "Calgon's Ultimate Packing List" and one of the first things he talks about is cleaning the house, take out the garbage etc.

I don't because I'm usually doing last minute packing, but DH does it for us. It's nice to come home to a clean house. Got to make room for souvenirs. :)
