Do you clean your house before you leave?

While I'm not very good about keeping things perfect day to day, I ALWAYS clean before a vacation. It's such a bummer to come home to a messy house after vacation!

I cleaned our house before we left. We have 3 cats and a friend was coming in to feed them. Well, we were gone for 18 days and I couldn't believe the amount of cat hair in the house when we got back. I knew they shed a lot of hair but this was more than I imagined.

Even though it adds stress to our getting ready, we try our best to get it as clean as possible. Nothing worse than coming home to a messy house.

Speaking of...I think there are so many of us going the first couple of weeks of October we may need to start a post-trip support group!!!

I am all for that support group!!!!! And how in the heck do you all find time to clean before you leave??? With all the packing and everything my house is always left in a cyclone, although it would be nice to come home and not deal with the mess. Maybe I need organization anonymous?? I just don't get it!!

on vacation? I do and it drives my DH nuts. For one thing, our neighbor comes over to take care of our cats and I don't want him tripping over toys and such. Plus, I like coming home to a clean house. Ok, I was cleaning out the junk drawer, but I was on a roll! And I hadn't cleaned behind the oven in ages so now seemed like a good time to do it

A long long time ago I didn't do any special massive cleaning before we went camping for a long weekend or week or on vacation or whatnot... but I learned my lesson on that one- same reason others have mentioned- I absolutely HATED coming home from vacation with massive cleaning, washing clothes, etc. to get done. So now I clean before vacation. However, I don't go so far as to clean out junk drawers and behind the oven. LOL

Dh and I both straighten up the house, make sure dishes are washed and such. Our big thing is unplugging all the electric appliances and turning off the water so we don't come home to a nasty surprise.

yes - the house has to be tidy.. although the last two occiasions we have been to wdw we have had the decorators in or a new kitchen put in!

Then the decorators (well.. they are more than decorators!) cleaned the house from top to bottom. the house was super sparkly to come back to.. and we didnt evn have to do it

Has anyone joined www.flylady.net ? She even has a packing ritual, which includes cleaning, not perfection, nobody's perfect. Website also includes detailed packing list. She sends lots of emails if you sign up, so be ready. I love her ideas!!!!
We are leaving Friday, I have not even started packing yet. House has to clean, laundry done, before I even begin packing for any trip. I usually pack do of, or day before. I am trying to get ready to begin packing today, wish me luck.
Reason I am not FLY, for those of you who are flybabies (or become them ): I am finishing up my family's weekend move from one condo (luckily furnished) to a house (also furnished). Still waiting on our house to be finished. We have to be out of 1st condo on 30th, leaving day!!UGH!! Wish me luck

Yes i always clean my house from top to bottom, then my my comes up half way through our vacation to do it again bless her!!!! the problem is when we get home and start to sort the luggage it looks like a bomb has dropped.

Always clean the house top to bottom so it'll be sparkling clean when we get home. Big project is cleaning out fridge and giving it its' once-a-year thorough cleaning. Because we go the first of December, once we get home, do the shopping, do the laundry, catch upw ith schoolwork, it's time to get the tree and decorate for Xmas.

I also have all my Xmas shopping done and wrapped before we go so once we get back, I can enjoy the holidays. This has been a tradition for years and works out well. Of course, I always save one or two of the "santa" gifts so if my DD8 changes her mind closer to Xmas I just run out and grab the last two things I need.

Oh, I'm fanatical about unplugging everything too! I got to work early today so I can leave early to finish my cleaning and pack so I can get in bed before midnight (since our plane leaves at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow).

I agree, it's great to come home to a clean house (it last about a second though once we unpack and dd discovers all the toys she had to leave behind).

OMG!!!! Went right to their site, and signed up! I cannot leave, even for the weekend without cleaning the house and finishing the laundry. Drives my family crazy, because of the towel and sheet issue the day of a trip. Try leaving at 6 AM and having them washed and dried before we go...see why they are neurotic before we even leave?

Lucky you! In my house, I am the cleaning lady...no really, I am the cleaning lady.

I always envied the people whose homes I cleaned while they were on vacation. They all told me how nice it was to come home to a clean house, so I used the time for some extra touches. Now, I stay home to watch my DGD, but have gone back to cleaning a little bit for extra spending money. I would love the same treat.
