So I was just curious, how many newbies really come every year??? I know your post says there are some but just wondering how many. I have seen a lot of your names on the dis boards so I was figuring that most of you are already friends. Do the girls do their own thing most of the time or is it a pretty tight group that stays together. Thanks.

Hi Everyone! My name is Paula and I am very hopeful I can join you all next year! I could kick myself for not going this past year when I could have used my AP! I've requested vacation for the time of the trip so we will see if it gets approved!

I love all things Disney. I have made 2 trips to DL. The first I went with a friend for 3 days and then 2 days solo and the second trip was 3 days solo. I bought an AP right from the start. I am planning my next trip for June for my birthday. I am wishing my birthday was not in summer but oh well! I am scared of the crowds!

I am also hoping to make a late September/Early October trip. I really want to go to another Halloween Party before my AP expires on Oct 13th. I wish I knew the Halloween Party dates so I could make plans!

I am married but no kids. Hubby is not a fan of Disney. In fact yesterday I was reading through this thread and Hubby goes. What in the world could you be doing on there for hours at a time! What can I say... I spend a lot of time on the DIS!

Trudi that is funny that you mention ghosts! We actually DID have one here when I was a kid and had some "occurences" but we did a remodel to our house in the 80's and I think that somehow "set it free".

We know that our home was one of the orig houses in our area and orig this house owned several hundred acres of orange groves and it was also a dairy farm. In fact our house had a milk barn attached to the back of it. It was built on granite boulders and had many different sections that had been added onto and changed over the years with false ceilings and such. (kind of like a cheap version of the winchester mystery house but not with all the weird stuff LOL). Just people had added kitchens and bathrooms as the years passed and those things came into use and they just did their own additions.

When we bought it in the 70's (my parents) it was pretty beat up. A family owned it and the mother was a drunk and the father was pretty decript and the kids were all hell's angels and had driven their motorcycles in the house and written all over the walls and such. It was pretty beat up but my parents got it really cheap. We have over an acre and it was all over grown and the place came with a bunch of chickens. It took my parents over a month and several dumpsters to clean it up. But we found out that the orig owners who built it back in the day their families still lived behind us. The "parents" lived here and the kids moved out and each built a home behind the parents place. It was called the Pittman farm and the kids who are now old and dead themselves each built homes and raised their families but the orig parents eventually died and the wife died in the house. So I personally think it is her ghost that haunted the place because the one person that claims to have seen the ghost (my uncle) said it appeared female.

Mostly we just heard noises and we did have a time where there was knocking on the door when no one was there and then there was the time my dad and I were sitting watching tv and saw a figure walk past the door and no one was there but my uncle is the only one who saw the figure. He was sleeping downstairs on the couch and says he saw her. But like I said when we did the remodel it all stopped. It was kind of cool at the time but now that I am older and have watched shows like paranormal activity and such I am glad that it stopped!! I think I would be more freaked out now if it still was happening even though we never had any "bad" stuff just the noises and such.

Anyway I will try and find a pic (not sure if I have one on photobucket).

Anyway back to reality LOL.

Today I am off to work and then piano so it is my least favorite day. LOOOONG! And the weather is still yucky so not looking forward to it. Otherwise that is about it for me.

I would say that last time about 1/4 of the group was new. It just doesn't seem like they are new because we all spend so much time getting to know each other on here that you feel like you already know everyone by the time you meet in person. People mostly do things in small groups, sometimes planned but usually just random groupings that happen throughout the day. I see you are in Washington; there are a lot of us in the PNW! Just a couple in Oregon but a lot in WA and a few in BC. We have had a lot of newbies show interest already since the last trip so I think next year is going to be huge!

Okay, sounds good. I found the easiest way is to save them from my computer to a site like photobucket. If you need more help, I'm sure one of the tech savvy ladies here can guide you through it.

Hello!! Welcome to the thread.
To answer your question about newbies, it has varied from year to year. I remember on our second trip, it was about half and half with new ladies versus those returning. This last trip, I'd estimate we had at least a dozen new ladies.
Some of the ladies have been here since day one and have obviously formed close bonds with each other, but at the same time I think this group is pretty good about welcoming anyone new. And as I said, you wouldn't be the only new one. We already have several who just joined recently!

As for the trip, we always plan certain group activities such as the scavenger hunt, some meals, photo ops, and some group rides. Then in between we do tend to break off into smaller groups mainly because it's easier to manage than keeping all 40-45 ladies together. And because some want to shop, some want to go on fast rides, some want the more tame rides, etc.
The nice thing about such a large group is you can always find someone who is interested in doing what you want to do, so you don't ever have to be alone unless you want to be.

First of all, welcome to VallCopen and Paula!

I was one of the newbies this trip so thought I would give you my perspective. I have posted on the DisBoards off and on for quite some and started lurking on the trip thread. When I posted that I was thinking of going, everyone chimed in to encourage me so I took the plunge. I was a little nervous about going on a trip with people I did not know but the lure of Disneyland with Disney loving ladies won me over! Originally I was going to room with another new lady whom I had never meet but she had to back out at the last minute due to a family illness. While a friend did end up joining me for the last few days, the first 2 days, I was "on my own" - but not really!! I felt at home with this group from the start. The meet and greet was a great ice breaker and really helped me to put faces to names. As you start to post, you start to feel like you know the ladies. It is a very welcoming and fun group and seems to be growing each year!

There a lots of group things planned - pictures, rides and meals - that you can join and then it is easy as people spilt off into smaller groups to find someone that wants to do the same things. We are easy to spot in the parks - each day has a different color t-shirt.

My advice to you both is to just do it! I know you will love it!

I actually did not know it was haunted when I booked it but really wanted to stay in the French Quarter and feel in love with the room photos showing red brick walls! I grew up in the south and miss all the brick!

Welcome aboard! I am new too and 2012 will be my first Diva trip. I hope you get your time off and can come too! Too bad your AP expires Oct 13th...but if you decide to renew it and stay a couple of days there is a mini Diva meet that I will be there for! Currently we have several divas with overlapping family trips and some local ladies joining us Sunday October 16th (that may change as it gets closer but that is where it is now) My family will be arriving Oct 11 (hoping for a Tues party the day we arrive) so if you have to go before the 13th
and are there while I am would love to meet another new Diva and have another person I have met outside the box (the computer). My hubby has learned if I get caught up on the DIS to remind me it is time to make dinner

I had a bit of a tough weekend. I got a call at work Friday afternoon from my uncle saying that my cousin had just been killed in a hit and run. So I've spent the weekend in bed. (thanks for not being too chatty this weekend!)

I checked out the hotel website and it's reviews on tripadvisor. It seems really nice! I love the courtyard with the greenery, fountains, and statues. Very pretty. The location sounds perfect, and the rooms are nice looking. The brick.....love it!
The prices weren't horrible either. Some nights as low as $98. Okay, some nights were over $300, lol, but still if your dates worked out, you could get a great deal.

Have a great time there in July. Are you traveling just for a fun get-away?
