Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

We check in Thursday and I don’t know if it’s worth adding a request for a refurbished room to our booking or if it’s too late and we just need to take our chances.

I think if you call and add a request for Building 1 today it might be in time. It can't hurt! Have a great trip :wizard:

I got a sneak preview on Friday morning and got a ton of DSLR photos which I'll be uploading to my website once I get home. I also got some quick phone snaps which are the ones I posted on Facebook.

After a three month "hard goods" refurbishment, Cast Members held a short opening ceremony at 9:30am on Friday 30th August, led by resort General Manager Kelly Kline.

The first guests were assigned to the building from around 3pm, and about 60+ guests were sleeping in one of the new rooms by the evening. Buildings 2 and 3 remain under construction, and as more buildings are completed the remaining buildings 4-7 will be worked on. There is now a slightly delayed estimate of February 2025 for the whole resort to be completed.

The new rooms offer a cool blue theme with brown accents and a longer white marble effect countertop, and feature solid sliding doors to both the vanity and bathroom areas, and a glass shower door rather than any curtains. Three "Princess and the Frog" pictures adorn the walls, but otherwise there is no in-your-face Disney detail - although there are subtle New Orleans musical instrument references in much of the patterned decor. There is lots more storage than before, which will be welcomed by families in particular. A bench seat (NOT an extra bed) is provided beside the table in regular rooms, or two chairs in corner rooms where the bench seat would not fit under the second window.

Fold-out reading lamps are by each bedside, and there's a small wall-mounted table for the guest on the far side of the bed. USB-A and USB-C ports are provided alongside each power socket. The rooms now feature beverage coolers not mini-fridges, which is not a move welcomed by most guests but seems to be a general trend at Walt Disney World. There's a cute little wooden step in the vanity area for kids to reach the basins - and for adults to reach the very high safe! Some rooms will have walk-in showers instead of tubs, but I'm not sure how many as yet.

We like the refresh but I wish they kept the individual chairs at the table.

Thank you for the info, Andre.

Do they still have the same mattress brand? You know how many times people asked about the mattresses to buy for themselves.

Will rooms with shower stalls be a separate room category or something one can request, or will it just be the luck of the draw?

Do the shower stalls (and maybe the tubs?) have hand-held shower heads?

Will you be updated your accommodation maps to show rooms with shower stalls?

Did you get pics of a king bed room or a handicap accessible room? Definitely hope to see those.

I know, a lot of questions, but the shower stalls have me seriously considering Gran Destino Tower when I plan the next trip even though I prefer the look and feel of POFQ, so I am happy to see the shower option.

Just FYI, YC has had rooms with only showers since 2017. We’ve also stayed in other resorts over the years with only showers. There has never been booking categories for tub combo/ or showers at any of those resorts. You can definitely request which you want & ask at check in before you go to the room.

I'm a little unclear here. Are you saying you want a room with a shower or a room with a tub? As far as I know, Gran Destino Tower only has showers, no tubs.

Thanks! I’ve done live chat on MDE and asked for it. As you say it can’t hurt and we’ll be happy anywhere. Only building 7 is a bit farther than we’d like but still not bad.
We check in Thursday, too, and also requested building one! Fingers crossed for us both 🤞

Has anyone had any experience with trying to book a Bounceback offer for the PO resorts for 2025? Curious about dates and prices for next year. We are going at the end of September and are contemplating a Mardi Gras and a Halloween time trip next year. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm booked under the Bounce back offer for next September 13-20, 2025

Oh, definitely a room with a shower, not a tub. Us older folks find stepping into a shower safer than climbing over a tub wall. Plus showers don't have as much of a slant as a tub, which can be disorienting for some folks with balance issues.

Ah, got you! You want to make sure you get a room with a shower, not a tub. I'm one of those "older folks" too, and don't particularly like the tubs at Disney resorts either.

I was honored a new room. I’m on the 1st floor with river view. It is raining so later and tomorrow I’ll get view pix.
The room is lovely in person.

I did notice a king bed room did not have the bench but a table and 2 chairs.

I like the closet set up!

Probably heading out soon but I’ll check back when I can.

We are planning a Mardi Gras trip in early March. We were planning on staying in at French Quarter in a River View room (hoping to get Building 6). We usually alternate in-between Riverside and French Quarter. Wife an daughter are going to MNSSHP at the end of this month (staying at Riverside) and we were hoping to book a Bounceback for March. I am little concerned now that the renovation may not be complete.
