Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hello

We will be staying at the Poly in July. I have to admit, I am a YC girl but my agent had a great deal for the Poly for July. I stayed at the Poly once in 2003 and had a bad experience with really noisy (screaming at each other at all hours of the night) neighbors. We had bad bus karma too. I know that these things happen at all resorts so I am looking forward to giving the Poly another try!

We have a standard room booked. Is Rarotonga a good location? It looks to be close to the pools and also to the TTC which would be nice.

How is the pool situation? Is it so crowded that it is hard to get a lounge chair? We usually go during slow times, so this will be my first July trip.

What should we expect as far as wait times at Captain Cooks? Is lunch time really crowded or does it just depend?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions. I am feeling like such a first time visitor as we usually go in the slow time of September and stay at the YC and I just have no idea of what to expect with July crowds and also a different resort!

We've never stayed in Rarotonga, but we loved Samoa! I don't think the Poly is all that spread out, so IMO, nothing is too far from the main areas. As far as the pool, we are probably in the minority, but we didn't find it to be too crowded. We spent a lot of time at the pool and never had a problem getting lounge chairs :).

Captain Cooks is one of our favorites for CS and we've never had a bad experience. There have been times it's been busy, but nothing so chaotic that it took forever ordering or getting our food ;).

Try not to worry, I think you'll have a great time! :goodvibes

We will be at the Poly in exactly one Week!

Have a great trip! :yay:

I am surprising my soon to be 10 yr old (she will turn 10 down at Disney). We are staying at the Poly for our first time. I have standard room but want to make sure we request a good building. I don't want to over look construction. Looks like Samoa is most recommended standard view building. But I know one side overlooks the pool construction. Can you request the non construction side? Or do you guys have a better building to recommend? I want this to be super special and we WILL be at the hotel during the day.

You can request non-construction side. We love Samoa! It's in a great location as it's just steps from the main pool, GCH, Captain Cooks, and the beach :).

Just had to post so I could see the single digits in my ticker! We are so excited!!! :yay:

Hope you have a great time! :jumping1:

Hi All,
I have been viewing a lot on the DIS Board, but this is my very 1st post! Our 1st family vacation will be in April and we are staying at the Poly- garden room. Cast of characters will be DH, DS1- 2 1/2 , DS2- who will be turning 1 while in WDW! and myself. Looking to be centrally located to GCH and TTC. Which longhouse would you recommend? Samoa, Rarotonga, Tokelau, other? 3rd floor or 1st since we will have 2 strollers?
TIA!

Welcome to the Dis :welcome:

We love Samoa. With 2 strollers, I think I'd request 1st floor as that would save you from having to use the elevator. Hope you have a great time and enjoy the Poly :wizard:.

We are going to be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary while we are in WDW.. We intend on getting pins, and we have dining reservations at California Grill for our actual anniversary night. We will have our 2 year old daughter with us on the trip, of course, but she isn't coming with us to dinner. She will be 2 years and 5 months, so I'm assuming it's a no go on the kid's club there right? I've read mixed reviews on KNO, so I'm a little nervous using their services. Also, any other ideas or suggestions on how to celebrate our anniversary are greatly appreciated! I've read up on maybe getting a cake ordered at the restaurant, but just wanted to see if anyone else had other ideas. :thanks:

I don't really have any anniversary ideas, but wanted to say I hope you have a great anniversary trip :wizard:.

I would recommend Samoa. It is close to the GCH and close to TTC, pool, beach.

:thumbsup2

At the Poly now and noticed they are adding water to the E pool! I'm sure it will be ready soon. I will try to get info from the cast members

How exciting! Hope you're having a great time! :goodvibes

That's awesome! Please keep us updated with anything you find out. We might add two nights there to the end of our trip but we are kind of waiting to see what is going on with construction.

We wil be at the poly the second week of August. Is it possible to just walk up and eat lunch at Kona? I don't want to Make a ton of adr's except are must do's. We do plan on making a ADR for Ohana for DD birthday breakfest. I just wasn't sure if we can get into Kona for lunch on our pool day without a ADR.
Lunch is easier to walk up to than dinner. It also is a lot less busy in August. That's when we usually go and you should have no problem at all for lunch. Happy eating! Kona is always a must for us!

Yay! thanks for posting! Unless there's some setback, I can't imagine them wasting power etc if it was going to be more than a month. Assuming they aren't going to fill and drain. Some good news in the face of all the spring closures. I would never let one thing change how I feel about a trip , but it's now 4 things we were looking forward to. getting brutal over there

What Spring closures?

Dumb quick question. I envision myself leaving the room early to get a press pot of coffee for DH & I before we get ready. How would I take it back to the room? Is it totally out of line to fill our refillable mugs and leave the press pot? Or does that run the special flavor? I feel so naive.

I am completely in the overthink everything stage. I am making DH crazy, I suspect.

For those that have stayed before at the poly, have you done the in room food service. Specifically the ohana family meal setup? How was it? Did you enjoy having it at your room over the restaurant?

We had Rarotonga in August and LOVED LOVED LOVED it - we were on the ground floor a few doors down from the entrance beside GCH...it was perfect. Super convenient to transportation, food, etc. Plus I could hear monorail guy from the patio :)
And in the morning, the cast members were all coming down the hall to get to work as we were leaving our room, which was neat.
We're definitely requesting Rarotonga next trip.

What Spring closures?

Soarin' is closed until summer. Big Thunder will be closed April 4- I forget
Then of course there's all of Hollywood Studios that's closing permanently around then... Lma, the histk playground, etc.

Anyone know if you can still fax room requests? Anyone know the fax number? Thanks!

I will be @ the Poly from 4-10th of August. How do you guys think it will be by then? Still in construction?

I don't know for sure, but I'm hoping things will be wrapped up by then. We are (possibly) returning to the Poly at the end of September and it would be nice to see everything completely finished :goodvibes.

I can't answer as we've never done this, but hopefully others will be able to help :flower3:.

I can't answer your questions as we've never done it, but it's something I'd like to try based on a few reviews that have been posted in the last couple of months. I'm not sure how far back in the thread these posts are, but hopefully those who have done it will post (or re-post) their experience :).

I'm loving this DVC Lake View Studio Villa at Moorea we're staying at now. Great view of Wishes from the second floor balcony. Love the two baths, the really big screen TV, the room seems bigger/spacier than the recent batch of DVC Studios.

Glad you are happy with the studio. Hope you're having a great time :wizard:.
