Hi,
Im so upset about this, I don't watch his show, I did watch Colbert occasionally.

Disney what are you doing cancelling this show. What happened to Freedom of Speech.

Very sad disney fan

Did you post something similar when the FBI coerced suppression of the NY Post / Hunter Biden story? Facebook and Twitter forced the story out of the algo so nobody saw it and they blocked searches for Hunter Biden and the NY Post (search results would come up completely empty). This was ahead of the 2020 election. And the story was true. And it wasn't something that happened over the public airwaves, it happened on private social media platforms. (and there are even bigger questions like why did the FBI politicize this during a Trump admin.... arguably treasonous TBH).

At least with the Kimmel thing there's arguably an angle that FCC licenses are only granted to companies that serve the public good, and blaming Republicans for Charlie Kirk's shooting was an overt lie that did not serve the public good (and yes, that's what he was doing, don't make him into some innocent little victim here that's not responsible for his own words).

This isn't just some whataboutism thing. But please at least realize where we're at. Freedom of speech was absolutely thrown away by the left during COVID and in an attempt to ensure Trump never won again. The norms were massively changed with very high stakes and now Republicans very openly attempt to manage speech.

Wrong board.

They probably mean it should be on the controversial board.

I saw that Kimmel's show had been pulled indefinitely due to his comments on Charlie Kirk's murder but I didn't see what he actually said.

Regardless, this is NOT a freedom of speech issue. The first amendment grants you the right to freedom of speech without government interference. Disney/ABC is not the government. They are a private company who has the right to dismiss an employee who's values do not align with theirs.
Had he been arrested due to his statements THAT would be a freedom of speech issue.

So many people do not understand this.
If deemed, wrong board, TPTB will move it. If deemed, okay here, it will stay here.

It's interesting. Liberals don't think they should lose their jobs over things they say, yet believe that Charlie should have been assassinated over the things he said.

I promise you that "Liberals" DO NOT believe that. Kimmel was in fact one of the first voices to condemn the shooting in no uncertain terms.

Also, most people don't think that someone should never lose a a job over the things that they say. Obviously there are things one could say that would warrant that type of action. What we don't want is the government exerting pressure to do so, as that could be a constitutional issue. Also, in this particular case, what was said doesn't warrant the action - Kimmel did not disparrage the victim, only political posturing taking place in the aftermath.

This painting with broad brushes stuff has got to stop. It's causing all of the problems that we have.

The serious issue is that Kimmel made a false statement that the shooter was a MAGA republican, "one of them" who killed Charlie Kirk. In today's terrible environment that can be taken as an incitement to more violence, justifying more despicable acts.

It was already clearly and publicly stated by police what the ideology and beliefs of the shooter were. Kimmel was lying or completely stupid.

ABC was already losing money with the show so they probably used his remarks to take it off. No one wants him fired because he said something insensitive or offensive, it's an incitement to violence in an already tense world.

I don't think that is what he meant by the statement, though I agree that it is worded poorly. He was going to clarify that on the show before it got pulled.

ABC did not pull the show because it was "losing money" by whatever metric. Nexstar, a company who owns a lot of ABC affiliate stations said they would not air the show. This would mean it wouldn't air in over half the country. At that point, it's not really in ABC's interest to produce the show. My understanding is that they want to smooth this over and get the show back on the air soon. I personally feel that they need to make a statement, but they are pretty up against the wall with the affiliate owners.

Nexstar wants to have control of almost 80% of the local affiliate stations in their merger. What better way to curry favor with the current FCC to smooth over that process than by assisting in the removal of an individual on the air that the FCC Chair has mentioned an open dislike for.

Wow. Maybe take several seats. “Liberals” including Jimmy Kimmel by the way , have spoken out against political violence. Kimmel addressed it in his monologue after it happened. What many have said is they refuse to make him a martyr because he was not a good man.

This is a false statement and I’m pretty sure you know it.

Hey, liberal here. No liberal thinks he (or anyone) should be assassinated for their views. In fact, he was assassinated by someone even FURTHER right than he was in his views, and was killed because they thought he had not gone FAR enough their way. Not a liberal.

Weird how you didn't know that. Maybe if you listened to some varied media, you would.

It is amazing the amount of people who don't understand how this was a business decision. Now it is coming out that Tegna was going to announce their ABC affiliates were going to drop the show if ABC hadn't made their announcement. That is 13 more affiliates including the Dallas market. The show wasn't going to be on in the Dallas, Nashville, New Orleans, Salt Lake, Portland, St. Louis, Seattle, and DC markets. Late night has already become a money loser for the networks. You lose all of those affiliate fees paid by 80 plus stations and the ad dollars because of lost viewers in those markets........... Well producing the show turns not into just a money loser, but you are bleeding money like you punctured an artery.

People are in for a rude awakening if they think that free speech means businesses won't make business decisions. It might not be fair, but life isn't fair. It doesn't matter if you are on the right or left. If you play with fire, you might get burned.
