Tell me all about this thing. Is it worth purchasing?

You're better off getting an ipod shuffle or something similar. I bought the Hanna Montana one (the one with the video player-cost about $100 last Christmas) and my daughter used it twice and then the battery died. I couldn't return it and they wouldn't replace the battery. Total waste of money!

I would say it depends on the age of the child. My boys (2 & 5) have them and love them. I finally found a program called magicdvdripper that converts movies to the right format for the mixmax. I can fit about 4 movies on a 2gb sd card. I don't think I would pay more than $50 for them, but they are a good alternative for the younger kids. The only problem we have with them is the ear buds don't work for my 2 year old and sometimes my 5 year old has a hard time with them too. We have a couple of kids headphone sets that they use instead. They will be great on the plane ride to disney next month!

magicdvdripper dot com. They have a free trial that you can run up to 5 times and the trial version will convert a full movie. I have converted about 12 so far. The only problem I have had with it is when the disc is scratched and it can't read it - it comes back with an error and asks if you want to skip the bad sectors. Not the program's fault.
