February is Black History Month and to celebrate, the culinary teams at Disney Parks are bringing on the flavor with delicious eats and sips honoring Black heritage and culture. Both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are joining in on the Celebrate Soulfully festivities, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint with this tasty lineup.

All throughout the year you can enjoy music, food, and artwork celebrating Black cultures at Disney Parks, but during February, there’s even more fun for you (and your stomach) to enjoy! Don’t forget to check out Cooking With Soul for more ways to celebrate.

This year, there are plenty of new delights that you won’t want to miss, including the Sweet Potato Fries Poutine at Disneyland Hotel. But that’s not all. There’s also some returning favorites coming back, like the Sweet Potato Lunch Box Tart at Woody’s Lunch Box and Banana Pudding at Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue.

I don’t know about you, but my mouth is watering just thinking about these bites! Let’s waste no more time and get to this year’s Foodie Guide to Celebrate Soulfully. Shall we?

Disneyland commits $2.5 billion for theme park expansion
Disneyland has committed to spend at least $2.5 billion over the next decade as part of a long-term planning proposal presented to the city of Anaheim that dangles possible projects based on Wakanda, Zootopia, Frozen and Coco.

The details of the proposed DisneylandForward development agreement between Disney and the city were released on Tuesday, Jan. 23 during an Anaheim City Council workshop.

The DisneylandForward proposal seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort.

The long-term planning proposal covering the next four decades of Disneyland development dangles possible projects based on Black Panther, Coco, Frozen, Zootopia, Tangled, Peter Pan, Toy Story and Tron as the types of lands and attractions Anaheim is missing out on under current city planning and zoning guidelines.

The $2.5 billion investment over the next decade would go toward theme park lands, attractions, hotels, shopping and dining west of Disneyland Drive and on the Toy Story parking lot.

The multi-billion dollar investment would not cover millions more spent by Disney on parking structures, pedestrian bridges and road improvements in the theme park resort area.

The DisneylandForward proposal calls for Disney to pay $40 million for portions of Magic Way, Clementine Street, Gene Autry Way and Hotel Way to clear the way for the proposed theme park expansion.

The plan also calls for Disney to build a 17,000-space eastside parking structure with direct connections from the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway that would be larger than the combined Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures.

Up to three pedestrian bridges over Harbor Boulevard would connect the eastside parking structure with the Disney theme parks while providing access to the hotels, shops and restaurants along the busy street below.

Katella Avenue on either side of Harbor Boulevard would be widened with improved intersections as part of the proposed project.

The DisneylandForward proposal is scheduled for Anaheim Planning Commission hearings in March with a vote by the Anaheim City Council in May.

Probably smart to put this off until the Little Mermaid comes back. Hopefully it’s not cancelled completely.

Even better would be to reopen the Launch Bay theater then take it down for a bit.

REVIEW: New S’mores Churro, Dessert Pizza, Shake, and Hot Cocoa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Shannen Ace
January 25, 2024

S'mores snacks at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a new series of s’mores snacks available throughout the park.

Explore S'mores sign

These are the new treats and where they’re located:

S'mores churro from Tamu Tamu Refreshments

The S’mores Churro is rolled in chocolate dust, sugar, and salt. It’s topped with dollops of whipped cream covered in graham cracker dust and semisweet chocolate chips. There is also an extra dollop of whipped cream on the side as well as marshmallow dipping sauce in a container.
S'mores churro and marshmallow dip

As per usual, the Walt Disney World churro is disappointingly tough and not the soft churro we hope for. The chocolate dusting is a little out of control and overpowers any s’mores flavor. There are nods to the classic campfire treat in the graham cracker dust and the marshmallow dip.

S'mores churro

This treat is a must-do for any Disney Churro aficionado but probably not for anyone else. Steer clear if you don’t like sweet and salty combinations.
S'mores churro in marshmallow dip

Prepare for a mess if you must eat this. But it is skippable. We rate it a 2.6/7.

S’mores Dessert Pizza – $6.79

S'mores dessert pizza

The S’mores Dessert Pizza is a delicious alternative to some of the more typical Disney desserts. The pizza is made on normal pizza dough with browned butter and brown sugar. On top is chocolate, graham cracker, and toasted marshmallow.

Close-up of s'mores dessert pizza

We liked the dough and graham crackers the most. It honestly tasted like an elevated French toast, likely because of the pizza dough, butter, and brown sugar. Because of that, it’s a good treat for anyone who likes French toast or s’mores.
Top of s'mores dessert pizza

The pizza dough offers a subtle base that makes this treat friendly for most. But like the churro, don’t bother if you dislike sweet and salty combinations.
S'mores dessert pizza cut in half

We do prefer this over the churro. We rate it 4.4/7.

S’moresosaurus Shake – $8.49

Vanilla Shake with Chocolate and Caramel Drizzle topped with a Chocolate-dipped S’more, Toasted Marshmallows, and Graham Cracker Crumbs and rimmed with Chocolate Fudge Sauce and Graham Cracker Crumbs
S'moresosaurus Shake

The S’moresosaurus Shake is a vanilla milkshake with chocolate and caramel drizzle, topped with a chocolate-dipped s’more (decorated with a dinosaur), toasted marshmallows, and graham cracker crumbs. The rim has chocolate sauce and graham cracker dust.

Side of s'mores milkshake

This is a wild shake! At first, we tasted only the vanilla shake but as it had more time to melt together, the caramel and chocolate were more prominent. If you are trying to get that s’mores taste, you will want to put a marshmallow in your mouth before sipping.
S'more on top of s'mores milkshake

The chocolate-covered s’more on top is dark chocolate around two graham crackers with marshmallow in the center. The green dinosaur on the s’mores (ours was upside down) is white chocolate. This was our favorite part of the dessert.
S'mores milkshake

It tastes like a typical milkshake with extra flavoring that makes it an interesting alternative. It is very sugary and not for the lactose-intolerant. We rate it a 4/7.

S’mores Hot Cocoa – $3.99

https://eb2.3lift.com/pass?tl_click...902804&ts=1706212255&bcud=1142&ss=12&cb=88991
The S’mores Hot Cocoa is Joffrey’s hot chocolate with whipped cream and graham cracker dusting on top — so it’s basically a normal hot chocolate from Joffrey’s. The only thing that gives it anything near a s’mores taste is the graham cracker dust, but you only taste that if you scrape it off the top. When you take a regular sip, it doesn’t come through.
Graham cracker dust and whipped cream on s'mores hot cocoa

This is just an extra sugary hot chocolate. It’s edible but unnecessary and doesn’t even make for a good picture. Order a regular hot chocolate for $3.79 and save 20 cents. We give it a 1.2/7.

This is just an extra sugary hot chocolate. It’s edible but unnecessary and doesn’t even make for a good picture. Order a regular hot chocolate for $3.79 and save 20 cents. We give it a 1.2/7.
How long will these tasty things be around? I could go for some of that dessert pizza
