Disney Daily Birthdays – July Exercise Challenge

Thanks!! I think things are improving slightly. I think you might have been right about the shoe issues. I have converted back to my older running shoes for running and my DVD programs and it seems that the foot is healing well. I ordered a new version of the old shoes and will try how they work. The old ones are just not in good shape anymore. I looked at the soles of the newer ones and they look like they don't give me the correct support. I think they might have been too ambitious for me. I love that they speed me up, but they don't give me the necessary support. So, I am going back to the shoes that according to the shoe shop guy were really worn the way they should be. It was also those running shoes that caused me having really bad back pain on vacation as I used them to walk around Denmark and Norway. So, I should have listened to you!

And I can add a few minutes, but was not nearly as active as I should have been last week.

Glad that the foot is feeling better, Magdalene! :flower3: Shoes can be very frustrating. I have tried two different pairs of running shoes in the past few months attempting to get away from my Brooks Addiction which are quite the clodhopper but work like a dream. If they have any inserts like Super Feet those might help the other shoe but I totally agree with you that having pain equals a shoe has to go. When I find a shoe that works I take Jeff Galloway's advice and buy two pair in case they "new and improve" it.

actually got up early and started at 7am for 7.1 miles, it is cool & breezy here again today!

So nice to run in cool and breezy weather! :cool2:

Did my 5k and although it was brutally hot, I finished it!

:woohoo:Woo hoo! Congrats on your awesome 5k! Hope Taylor Swift was fun.

Feeling :crazy2:/:mad: after today's 50-minute run. Trying to find positivity out of "at least I did it." Sigh.

Sorry for the tough run. :flower3: We all have them and while some people say they will help your next run to be better most they just stink! :sad2:

Had to switch out today's and tomorrow's workout because I got stuck at work later than I wanted and today was supposed to be another work out day with a four hour break between sessions. That was not going to happen because I volunteered to switch shifts and work tomorrow for a change and have to be in bed at a decent time, so I checked out what's on the menu for Monday and if switching was do-able. So instead I did a HIIT for endurance and an upper body workout for 55 minutes total.

Way to make sure you keep your workout commitment even when you have a zillion things going on! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the well wishes! Unfortunately I didn't run like the wind BUT I did finish! We had mad crazy thunder and lightening about 4-6am, that delayed the race a little. We ended up running in extreme heat and humidity - near 90 degrees! A lot of vomiting and passing out. Honestly I would have quit at mile 7 but I was running with my BFF and it was her first half and she really wanted to finish. So I stuck it out! We actually walked miles 8-13, it was just too hot!
211 minutes run/ walk
631/1000

Kudos to you pix13dust for finishing under tough, tough conditions. :yay: You should be proud of yourself for your persistence. :goodvibes Walking those last miles was the smart thing to do. And you helped your BFF and I'm sure she is grateful. Enjoy a couple of well deserved rest days. :flower3:

Sorry for the multiple posts -- keep hitting post reply too soon! :rotfl:

133 minutes with running group and a WW walking 5k in 90's temps :crazy2: brings me to 1049/1000. Hit my goal ten days before I go on vacation so I will be happily adding more minutes for the team. :cool2:

Wow, finishing a race in that weather is a huge accomplishment - congratulations! It's great that you stuck with it for your BFF!

Good morning and happy Sunday! Now that the excitement of Disneyland's 60th has worn off a bit, it's back to business as usual - which around here means color changes! :rainbow:

Congratulations to our latest member of Disney's Animal Kingdom Orange, dglilbit!

Congratulations to our newest members of Disney's Hollywood Studios Purple:
pix13dust
roxymama
swissfamilyrobinson

We've also got a new member of Epcot Pink - congratulations Rattpack!

I'm very excited to announce our first member of Magic Kingdom Red, sophy1996!

Our new member of Magic Kingdom Red is on FIRE ... and what better way to celebrate that accomplishment than with Magic Kingdom's Fire Engine No. 71?
main-street-vehicles-gallery02.jpg

This fire engine, a replica of an early fire truck, transports guests up Main Street USA. The 71 represents the year Magic Kingdom opened and is used for the Firehouse as well. Magic Kingdom Firehouse Engine Co. 71 is currently used as the home base for Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom, a game that allows guests to help save the park from evil villains.

It's only 19 days into the month and we already have our first member of Disneyland W.I.S.H. Green - congratulations lisah0711!

Since we just had our first team member turn Disneyland W.I.S.H. Green, what better way to celebrate that accomplishment than by celebrating color?
woc400199LARGE.jpg

World of Color debuted at Disneyland in June 2010 featuring nearly 1,200 fountains of water, a 380-foot-long mist screen on which images are projected, flames that can shoot up to 50 ft in the air, fog, lasers, synchronized LED lights on attractions in Paradise Pier, and laser and video projections onto the sun icon on California Screamin'. The show became very popular with guests, and was updated recently to "World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney" in honor of Disneyland's 60th Anniversary.
The amazing array of colors used in this show is almost as cool as the great rainbow of colors reached by our members!

While we're at Disneyland, let's celebrate a popular attraction which opened 34 years and one day after the park opening.
splash-mountain-00.jpg

On July 18th, 1989, guests were first transported to the world of Br'er Rabbit on Splash Mountain. This long flume ride uses the songs and stories of the Disney movie Song of the South. Some of the characters in Splash Mountain are part of Disneyland – several of the residents of the America Sings attraction can now be found in Splash Mountain. Don’t ride this popular attraction if you’re afraid of a little water – getting wet is practically guaranteed!
Happy Birthday, Splash Mountain!

Today's birthday brings us back to the world of Disney films, as we wish a happy birthday to Disney’s first completely live-action film, Treasure Island.
220px-Treasure_Island_%281950_film%29_poster.jpg

Released in 1950 and based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel of the same name, Treasure Island starred Bobby Driscoll (also known as the voice of Peter Pan) as Jim Hawkins and Robert Newton as Long John Silver. This film was the first all-color adaptation of Treasure Island, and was the 6th most popular movie at the British box office in 1950.

Happy Birthday, Treasure Island!

Congrats on making your goal!!!

Went for a slow walk to stretch out my legs a bit.
25 minutes
656/1000

Adding 60 min of walking for trekking to and from the Taylor concert. I didn't think my legs were going to survive after my morning run in 93 deg heat. But I did, I also napped more today than the I have in years!

Congrats to pixidust for finishing 13.1 miles. I barely could stand running just 3!

I'm taking today and tomorrow off to recover.

610/900

80 minutes this afternoon of abs. Lots of abs. Did I mention abs, because I can feel them gearing up for being sore tomorrow. A standing abs routine, followed by an abs&cardio workout, and ending with a long stretching routine mostly aimed for the lower back. Then another 25 minutes tonight of toning&cardio boot camp, followed by some more stretching because I felt that my body could use some more of that. Today was not a fun work out day.

995/1400.

Congratulations to all the color changers! :rainbow:

A couple of those denizens of America Sings also ended up at Star Tours in the queue. :darth:

Isn't it amazing how many birthdays in July are related to Disney?!? This is a great theme, Sarah, and I look forward to all your tidbits. :cool2:

Moving pretty slowly. Horseback riding is tough on a tenderfoot.:charac2:

Ouch! :flower3: Congrats on turning WISH lime green! :cool1:

Went for another morning run, the second this week. I think I might be able to get into the habit...

:cool2: Glad you are feeling better!

My abs are aching in sympathy just reading about your workout. :faint:

20 minutes of walking brings me to 1069/1000.

Kudos to everyone for staying active even in the dog days of summer! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Good morning, team! We're starting off as usual with some awesome color changes :rainbow: ...

Congratulations to our newest Member of Disney's Hollywood Studios Purple ... Trith!

And huge congratulations to our second member to meet goal and the newest member of Disneyland W.I.S.H. Green ... sophy1996!
Just like our members have no shortage of potential, there is also no shortage of green to see at Disneyland. Although there is one green door in New Orleans Square that Disney does not want you to see...
entrance1.jpeg

The door to Club 33, an exclusive members-only club, is painted in a shade known as "No-See-Um Green," which is supposed to be the shade least visible to the human eye. The club is open to members and their guests only, and in addition to the hefty price tag, there is a long waiting list for membership. Most people will never see what's on the other side of that green door ... which would explain why Disney Imagineers may have wanted to make it hard to see!

Now let's step away from the parks and into the movies to celebrate the birthday of a classic Disney voice actress … Verna Felton.

250px-Vfelton.jpg

Born on July 20th, 1890, Verna Felton is well known for providing numerous voices for Disney movies. Verna’s voice is instantly recognizable as the voice of Mrs. Jumbo (Dumbo), The Fairy Godmother (Cinderella), the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland) and several other beloved Disney characters. Her last role was as the voice of Winnifred the Elephant in The Jungle Book. Verna was married to Lee Millar, who voiced Pluto.

Happy birthday, Verna!
