Sorry to hijack but how does it work combining points and cash? We have enough for dh and I and would want to pay cash for our would be 15yo and 9yo boys to make sure we had enough for a week in Disney as well. Would the boys be a full fare? or is it like other cruises that the 3rd and 4th passengers pay a discounted fare?
In your case, you will book through MS and use points for you and dh and you will pay cash in full at time of booking for your children plus the $75.
We have found this to be quick and easy. Have not had any problems and don't want the hassle of renting out our points. DH has limited time off and we have the points. We understand the cancellation policy that points would become reservation points.
We have cruised three times (Eastern/Western/West Coast) and have used a combination of points and cash each time. We are also cruising the med. next year. We have done it differently each time only because we get two cabins. We would not have been able to do the West Coast and Med. cruise without our points (unless we rented them out).
First time we used
one cabin - 2 adults points
one cabin - 2 adults points, one child cash
Second cruise -
one cabin - 1 adult cash, 1 adult points
one cabin - 1 adult cash, 1 adult point, one child points
Third cruise -
one cabin - 2 adults cash
one cabin - 2 adults points and 1 child points
Fourth cruise - Med. cruise
same thing - one cabin 2 adults cash
one cabin 2 adults and 1 child points.
Regardless of ages, first two people in cabin pay adult fare
The cash cabin must be booked through
DCL and you only need to put a deposit, etc. You can link the reservations so you are all together.
So far, this has worked out for us. I doubt if my sons will be coming again in the future with us on our dcl cruises (unless there is extended family, special occasion).
