Totally off-topic, but I'm so excited that Disney Cruise Line decided to make Port Canaveral the home of the two new ships!! Yea...I'm only like 40 minutes away, so we will be driving down to check them out...if we aren't actually on one..:rotfl2:

Five years ago today, I was in labor until midnight, when my little Tessa (or Tesserella because of the midnight thing) was born. I can't belive my baby is 5 years old already. I remember that day like it was yesterday. We're having a party at Build-A-Bear tonight.

Hey!!! It has been 5 years and EXACTLY 3 months since my Lydia was born!!

Oh, I remember that day 5 years ago. I'm getting goose bumps all over thinking about it! Arminda was in the hospital to have some dental work done, they had to give her anistesia. The only thing she said she wanted when she woke up was to see her Aunt Heather! Luckily, she was there! I remember the nurses were all suprised when we told them that Heather was in labor!

If you read Heather's birthstory, then you know my Mom and got to the hospital just as she was starting to push. I had to wait in the waiting room, since I had Lyddy. It was funny, as soon as the nurses saw Lydia, they said, "You can't have a BABY in here!" which, I thought was hilarious, since it was the labor and delivery department!!! :rotfl2: About 10 mintues after I got there, someone came out and told me that my Mom had asked that I go get the camera out of the van. So, I did, and since it was midnight, the door to get back into the hospital was locked from the parking garage, and I had to walk all the way around the hospital to get back in (with Lydia).

But, I made it back, and got to see my wonderful sweet new niece!!!!

Heather, you give Tessa a big hug and kiss for me, and tell her that the day she was born was one of the happiest days of my life!!!

and, don't you just love the way I made Heather's birthstory all about me! :rotfl:
I've been lurking around here lots lately and I took a little jaunt over to YCMT website too.... seems like a lot of those little models over there sure look familiar! Is that a DisBoutique owned site???LOL!!! ;)

Does anyone have directions for the "I Spy" books??

We've missed you! How's your new grand baby?

there are I Spy bag directions in the bookmarks, is that what you are looking for? I'm not familiar with directions for a book.

No, we're not planning on going to that. Maybe we could all meet at the campfire sing-a-long, like t suggested!!!

Oops! I was thinking he was staying 8 days, so he'd be leaving on the 8th. DOH! I really don't think we'll convince Henry to wear a lime green Mickey head- we'll have to put it on his back like a "kick me" sign.

Oh my gosh!! I remember that storm!! As soon as I called you, the sky turned BLACK. I grabbed Tessa and Tomia and ran to the basement. We huddled in the corner and it sound like the house was falling down on top of us. I was SOOO scared! Tessa just sat quietly on my lap for the whole time, which was VERY unusual for her. I don't remember having any damage to the house, except for a few missing shingles. We were so lucky!

.

Yep, we should get together for the campfire. That would be fun!

I was thinking that we would need to snick the LGMH onto Henry without him knowing!

We were very lucky with that storm! Thanks for calling me!

My step daughter is having a Build a Bear party in April!!! I can't wait to hear how Tessa's party goes!!!

That's, when I was born, April 3. It's a good month!

My step daughter came in just a few minutes ago...assessed the situation and said "I didn't know that you liked Hannah Montana so much!"

:lmao:

I'm a dork.

You are a sweet dork! Heather and I cry about things like that too (as you all probably figured out!) I like Sally's comments!!

btw I found this link for free patterns and i can totally wing an A line skirt :)

http://craftersjourney.com/free-skirt-patterns/

I've made plenty of the circle skirts on a simple jumper top. The girls loved how twirly it was. I could do that too :) thanks!
That is a great site, I found it awhile back and bookmarked all the links.

I made Arminda an a-line skirt today, it was really easy. She wanted a Build a Bear skirt to wear to Tessa's party, so I drew up the pattern and sewed it together. It's not my best work, but it was quick! AND Arminda loved it!!!

(I'll try to post pictures later when they get home)

Ok - here it is - DD's Easter/Spring dress. I still need to do the buttons/buttonholes and hem but am waiting on DD to come home from school.

So pretty!!! I love the flower trim!

Hi Everyone,

I am in need of a weighted vest at my work - the ones we have are just too big for his little shoulders and it falls off. Has anyone ever made one? Its basically a little vest with pockets that you can put weights in to to give deep pressure and a calming organizing effect......

If you have done one, would you mind showing me or telling me how to do it? Or, how to make one out of an already made piece of clothing??

Thanks a ton, Wendy

I've seen these made quickly out of a large t-shirt. The hem was folded up and many pockets were sewn in just straight stitching from the old hem to the new hem. Then they put bean bags in the pockets. My son tried it once, but it does not do a good job if you are sitting (it just sits on the lap then). HTH!

This will probably seem odd, since I just posted other things without mentioning this, but I was doing some research while posting.....

Our Sister in law, Barbara (our brother's wife) had a lump in her breast, so she had a mammogram done. They said it was calcium deposits, but they also did a biopsy to make sure. She got her biopsy results back this afternoon, and she called me up and told me they were pre-cancerous cells. Which, worried me quite a bit. Then, my brother called me a little while ago and told me the "official" name of what she has, it's
site 2 ductal carcinoma,
also known as some letters that I can't remember. I did a search, and I'm confused. This sounds like it is a cancer to me, not precancer. Does anyone know anything about this? Everyone I can talk to right now is gone, Heather and my family are at Tessa's party, my Mom and Dad just went away, and I don't want to call my brother and worry him.

I did talk to my Mom for just a minute before she left, and she told me that the doctors want to do surgery to take it out, and then radiation?

I'm pretty worried.

Okay, we had fun making this "card"--it was my first real attempt at making something with my new Cricut (other than helping Sugarbees with something). It was fun! Nothing is too good for my future DIL ;) :lmao:

Now I feel like I need to mail it to you Heather! If I ever find a 12x12 mailing envelope and you pm me your address I will send it to you!

ETA: AAACK!! :scared: I just realized she is missing a piece of her right arm! I'll fix that!

Okay, not a good photo :confused3 but I fixed her arm!

I am laughing so hard I can hardly breathe! (in a oh-I-can't-believe-how-sweet-that-is kind of way)Thanks I needed that! That is just the sweetest thing!! Tessa is going to love it!!! I dare say Lydia will be mighty impressed too!!! I can't wait until someone gets home so I can show them!!!

I have a yellow and white (larger checked) gingham. I am still a basic sewer and want to make a pillowcase dress...I need some suggestions on what coordinating color I could use? Any of your suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Okay...WELL...I happen to be friends with a Cancer Research Scientist...I know random people in my life...

anyhow I just called him and when I told him what it was he immediately said "Oh, that's the good kind...if you are going to get a cancer, this is the type to get..."

Then he got all clinical and said:

In situ (noninvasive) breast cancer refers to cancer in which the cells have remained within their place of origin — they haven't spread to breast tissue around the duct or lobule. The most common type of noninvasive breast cancer is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is confined to the lining of the milk ducts. The abnormal cells haven't spread through the duct walls into surrounding breast tissue. With appropriate treatment, DCIS has an excellent prognosis.

SO...I hope this helps a bit. I know how scary it is to even HEAR cancer.

hugs and prayers to you and yours!!

I'm glad I could help :rotfl: Sorry about your SIL! I don't know anything about medical stuff :confused3

I think a yellow with a tiny white swiss dot would be cute!

You are so sweet I wish I were there to give you a hug right now! Thank you so much for calling your friend for me. I'm crying at your thoughtfullnes. So, this IS cancer? I was hoping I was mistaken about that. But, I'm glad it's not a more serious type of cancer. I don't think my SIL realizes that it is cancer yet. She goes in on Tuesday to talk to her doctor. Of course, I think this is the same doctor who told her that if it hurts, it can't be cancer..

I will read what you wrote to my Mom too.

Thank you so much.

Love that Dr. :sad2: My grandma found her breast cancer because it was painful! Now I'm sure it usually is not, but that doesn't mean it can't be.

Okay, I've been lurking the last couple of days because I've decided to assemble some dresses for the boutique assembly line style and it is working out great! So I need to get back to my assembly line!!!

Anyone full of advise this morning?

How do y'all finish your edges? Let me go deeper, A princess seam around the bust line.
Do you serge the rough edges? Do you stich a straight stich, clip the curve, then serge?

Just serge?

Finish some other way?

Also... When a dress calls for a lining do you try to match material content?

On an easy note! I love all the new outfits posted!:flower3:

Hi! Okay I do a straight stitch of the seam clip, and then serge to finish the seam and when I am lining I attempt to match material content then, color or contrast. Nana

**QUESTION FOR YOU ALL**
Have any of you ever just serged the bottom of a dress and then turned it up once to hem - as opposed to turning it under twice? I am wondering if it will look ok - I have some trim on a dress that is hard to turn under once I am not sure I can turn it twice.
Lori

oh all the time it is totally fine!

For those of you who made pajamas/night gowns for your kids, what kind of fabric do you use? Do you just use any cotton fabric, flannels....etc? My dd just requested that I make her some pajamas. Last night, after her bath time, she told my dh that she wanted some "dress pajamas". DH told her that she will have to talk to me, and maybe I will take her out shopping and buy her one! Immediately, she told him.."NO!!! Mama should make them, not buy them!!" LOL...I love that she wants me to sew for her!!!

Okay my absolute favorite fabric to make my DGDs "Dress PJs" is flannel backed satin (ployester/cotton blend) ...satiny on the outside...fuzzy on the inside:lovestruc :lovestruc . My favorite pattern to use for this is Butterick See&Sew 4005:love: . let's see since I have 5 DGDs and they have at least 6 or 7 of these each I have done this pattern about 40-45 times counting the "please make one for my best friend like this one, Nana"...:lmao: I have a Quick Sew pattern I use for knit unisex style actual pjs. I don't remember the number off hand but I can get it if you want it just PM me. That one I do almost entirely on my serger and can do multiple sets in as little as 1 hour. Nana

Hey everyone. So I started to finally sew my 1st dress last night but I'm a little confused and wondering if you could help. Can you take a look at the instructions and what I did and tell me how to do it right...lol... It just doesn't seem like it should look like that. I sewed the skirt part of the dress and that is fine so far. This bodice part is really confusing! I think I picked something a little too ambitious...haha...

Just thought I would share the latest outfits I made for my two kiddos for our September trip. They are pirate themed for Magic Kingdom :)

First I made Gabi a peasant dress using white broadcloth and Carla's YCMT portrait dress pattern. I am ruffle and gather challenged so don't blame her pattern for it's imperfections :rotfl:

Then I made a Farbenmix Anna for overtop. I used minnie dot and pirate fabric and made it reversible because I like how neat the hem is when something is reversible.

For Camden, I made a set of shortalls in the pirate fabric, forget the pattern I used here. And I also made him a pirate bandanna hat from the boys hats pattern on YCMT. I had some trouble with that one, not a lot of pictures and a bit hard to understand at times plus I had to make a few alterations based on the amount of fabric I had, but all in all it's a good pattern, just not great like Carla's patterns are :)

Anyways, I am pretty happy with these, not my all time favorites or anything but I think they'll work well for the trip :)
