Dis Mom's Club?

Ok I'm in.
My husband (38) and I (40) have one daughter 3 soon to be 4 (August). I've been to Disney a couple of times growing up but was busy traveling other places in my adulthood. My husband is from Brazil so I just explained the Disney concept the way I explain everything else I don't want to hear a fight about. In this country we take our children to Disney world once per year. That is why there are two, one for each coast. Fortunately for me men don't really communicate so no one has busted me about that or any of the other in this country comments I've made. However his eyes still glaze over when discussing the upcoming trip. Our daughter is only interested in Tinkerbell. She tells people she is going to Tinkerbell's house. I show her maps and pictures from the internet she says uh huh where's Tinkerbell's house or Is Tinkerbell there? She isn't really a princess girl per se. I'm hoping to change that.

Love the "In this country..." :rotfl2:

Spent the last three days at a conference for Social Workers and connected with a guy who loves Disney just as much as I do.:cool1: We were able to talk at breaks about what we like best and what we would like to do for our next trips. Then there was this other woman who stated "I heard Disney is not a place for kids.":scared1: When I picked my jaw up I told her that she may have misheard the people she was talking too and then she stated "I will never take my kids to Disney.":sad2: I just looked at her and said "well that's your loss." Although I was really thinking  that's fine by me leaves the good stuff to me. :rotfl2: While I was talking with the guy she decided to interrupt and said "I take my kids camping." Yep, so do I but I also take them to Disney. Then she proceeded to talk about work for the next two days. Lady, I came to the conference to avoid work. :rotfl2: Needless to say she will not be a DisMom any time soon.

:confused3 Some people just do NOt get it?!:confused3

Just last night a woman I know fairly well said to me, "I'll never take my kids to Disney World. Did you feel it was that important to take your kids?" I said "Yes, DH10 has been 3 times and we'll all go again." She shook her head at me. Oh well.

I am thankful for DISMOMS who understand!! :yay:

Good Morning Ladies! And WELCOME to the new moms that have joined us!
Things have finally calmed down some here, so now I can focus on packing for our Disney trip in 2 weeks!:banana::banana: I'm going to start making our shirts today and hopefully have them finished this weekend. I can't wait to be home again!

I too think that's so funny. Yes, when Disney World was created with the intent of preserving youth, fantasy, imagination, etc. Walt Disney and the Imagineers absolutely didn't have children in mind. I don't get how some people can be anti-Disney. Is your life really that miserable that you can't enjoy or at least appreciate Disney and what it's done/does for children and even technology for that matter! :confused3 Crazy people!

My MIL is the same way, we just booked our August trip and DS1 is super excited about it and he ran and told her we were going to Mickey's house and her reply was "oh, that's nice" with as little excitement as you can imagine. DH doesn't really get it either, his thing is "my family has always gone by the idea that vacations should be educational. Camping is a better vacation than WDW." blah blah, I love camping and being outdoors and such but c'mon...how can you not be excited when a one year old (he'll be 2 by our trip) is ecstatic because he's going to see his "best friend Mickey!"? Whenever my in laws start getting pompous about their "educational!!" vacations I just think that I need to get on here and talk to other DIS moms that encourage imagination in their children! Geez! :rotfl:

While I know that they are only 3 and 5 they have an advantage some kids their age don't have, they have remained kids and I have Disney to thank for that. When I say that my kids have never sworn most people think I am crazy or just naive but I really mean it. I truly believe that my having them become fans of Disney and only allowing the Disney Channel (and PBS) to be watched by the kids that it means I don't have to worry about the language that they will pick up.

I also believe that Disney is educational. It may not teach in a traditional manner but it teaches. My kids learned patients at Disney when they could not learn it at home. They are also learning the value of money as they are given a set amount that they can spend and they have learned to be very critical shoppers. They have also learned exactly what buttons to push to make mommy go crazy :scared: and also the buttons to push to get ice cream for a morning snack while walking around the Magic Kingdom. :rotfl2:

I so agree. Since I'm a SAHM I try to have little lessons here and there throughout the day for DS just so he gets at home education before he eventually starts school and I use playhouse Disney shows to help. For instance, we were learning shapes the other day and during an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DS was able to point out the shapes that Mickey was asking for and he LOVES counting along with Mickey! People seem to get so jaded about Disney for some reason...if only they'd be more open minded!

On a happier note, DH surprised me for Mother's Day and brought me and DS to see our local symphony orchestra play various Disney soundtracks for "Around the World with Disney." It was amazing, they started with a Disney overture and played park music (I cried) and played music from movies like "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Rescuers Down Under," "Lion King," "Little Mermaid," and "Mary Poppins" all while a huge screen in the background showed clips. It was such an awesome surprise!!! Happy Mother's Day Dis Moms!!!:woohoo:

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Dis Mom's.:flower3:

Hope everyone had a wonderful day. DH made breakfast which included chocolate covered cherries and bananas. DS devoured the cherries, nice to know he has some of me in him. :lmao: The kids then took me to the large indoor gardens in Milwaukee which were beautiful.

But what I do not understand is why I had to do :laundy: on Mother's Day:confused3 Oh well, the life of a mom.
