Dinosaur ride

I do not like this ride personally. It freaks ME out. However my 7 year old loved it last year as did his brother who was 4 at the time. The effects are VERY cool though

My fav in all of WDW. Great dark ride. VERY LOUD. My 5&8 year olds went on it 4 or 5 times last year. The 5 year old had her eyes closed and ears covered during the picture each time but she kept going back on it. She did all the roller coasters, HM, Dinosaur etc. but for some reason she is refusing to go on TOT again this trip...Go figure. :confused3 Just remember, every kid is different. I say try it once. This is one ride that screaming terrified kids won't bother anyone since everyone is screaming...

I was in my late teens the first time I rode it. To the day, I have yet to make it through that ride without burying my head in my mom or husband's lap, plugging my ears, and, "thinking happy thoughts."

I absolutely hate it! It's dark, jerky, and there's something about being chased.... I never get more than past the part where there are meteor showers and some ugly creatures jumps out... I practically cry my my husband wants to do it. :confused3

Just got back yesterday - DS5 (who is very scared of thrill rides) loved it, although I did cover his eyes occasionally (I don't think I needed to, though). DD7, who loves every thrill ride imaginable, was scared to death and teary eyed by the end. We joke about it now...how the thrill seeker was scared for change...she over it enough to laugh about it.

I guess the moral of the story is...go for it you just never know how a child will react to a ride. Just cover their eyes if they start getting scared. It's not a very long ride.

I went on this ride because my 3 year old grandson dared me to. I think I was more scared than him. I did note a few times he closed his eyes. He went on anything that he was tall enough for and only cried when he got off the Tower of Terror. My 6 year granddaughter also rode it but said she would not ride again.

I didn't care for dinosaur. It was so jerky that you couldn't see the dinosaurs. It was also over far too fast. That being said, DS6 said he loved dinosaur, but the picture they take of you (like at splash mountain and test track) showed his head buried into my side. :)

Very jerky, very loud, very scary when the Carnotaur keeps showing up. We, like idiots, didn't ride on it first before we took our not quite 4 year old son on it. We basically had our hands over his ears and eyes the whole ride (or at least for the Carnotaur scenes). He claims he loved it though (he's also another one that loves the Jurassic Park movies), but it will be a few years before he goes back on it (me too for that matter).

I LOVED this ride! It was probably one of my favorites during my last trip. As a 35 year old, 6'2" 220lb guy I must admit that during my first ride I had a few great "scares!" At the very end the T-Rex head "pops" out of the ceiling and looks like it's about to eat your car-----didn't see it coming and had a great jump!
It's a tough call for kids, but you should definitely try for yourself and then make the determination. I do know my 6yr old nephew rode it at least 5 times when he went in September---but he is a dinosaur nut!

DD 6 rode it for the first time this summer. The first time we rode it I felt awful just knowing she must be terrified and I spent the whole ride leaning over her saying its okay, its okay, you could not hardly see her in the picture because I was in the way. We got off the ride and she said mama why wouldn't you leave me alone I wasn't scared. Anway, she loved it we ended up riding it like six times. I can see where it would scare some kids though, it is dark, loud, and rough. so I guess it just depends on your kids. My dd happens to be a dinosaur fanatic so it was right up her alley.

My DD (6 at the time) went on several times last year. The first time she was a bit scared right after, but a short time later decided she liked it. Now she looks forward to going on the ride. It is dark. It is loud. It is jerky. My DD keeps her eyes closed the whole time......but she likes the ride.

I'm in my mid-twenties and this ride scared the heck outta me! I cried and screamed like a little girl! (in fact, the actual little kids in the back row were less scared than me). My DH was fine with it, however, I've seen Jurassic Park probably about 100 times and saw it over a dozen times in theaters, so for me the ride was all mixed up in the emotional terror of seeing Lex and Tim in the car and not being able to get out. The idea of dinosaurs fascinated and scared me before I rode anyway. I didn't think a ride with the Mom from the Cosby Show could be so freaky! :earseek:

It's funny that everybody says it was so jerky -- I rode it first to make sure it was appropriate for my 68 year old mom, and thought she could handle it just fine (and she did). I didn't think it even came close to being as jerky as Primievel Whirl or Space Mountain. My reaction to being startled is to laugh, though, not scream, so maybe that's why I didn't find it particularly terrifying. It's definitely more about startling you than anything visually scary.

I'll grant you the LOUD factor, though, plus there are bursts of light that could frighten photosensitive people.

I probably wouldn't take any but the bravest 6 year old unless you know they're bombproof to sound and surprises.

I'm deathly afraid of roller coasters, so if anybody is concerned on that account, nothing to be feared at all.

We rode it in Oct. My DS6 was determined he was going to ride it. I explained about the dark and the dinosaurs popping out at him, but he still wanted to ride. I told him we could do it and if he got scared, to just close his eyes. It was his favorite ride of the trip!!! He absolutely loved it. So I guess it all depends on your children. If they do want to still go on it, I would explain the ride to them before. That way there will be no surprises.

My kids are big wimps, so I wouldn't even attempt to take them on this ride! My 7 year old said she doesn't even want to go on Pirates this trip <groan>! If your children want to go on it, just make sure they don't sit in the front row, right hand seat. That's probably the scariest seat because the dinosaur jumps out at you right there.

I hate dinosaur. It would be great if they didn't need to jerk the darn jeep around so much. We took my 5 year old on it last time and he did it once and said it wasn't bad but doesn't want to do it again. I think he would have been fine too if it wan't for the jerking around.

The back seats are noticeably jerkier than the front; they are also fractionally higher. For us, this means more fun, but the ride is the only one that still gets my adrenaline really racing despite me knowing it's all fake!

It is very jerky, but you don't get the whirly feeling you get on PW. As far as scary goes, who knows? It depends on the kid. We had a two year old that got scared on It's a Small World. Go figure.

But his head doesn't actually move does it? I went on it twice, and the first time I was expecting the big guy to actually lean over into the car (and was pretty nervous about that prospect) but I don't think he moved. A light flashes on him, and he's quite close to the car, but he doesn't move. Or am I mistaken?
